Mistyped Pokémon

Cofagrigas should be Steel/Ghost, though Aegislash beat it to the punch.
Aegislash came after Cofagrigas. Totally agree with this, though.
Mismagius should get Fairy, I'd like more Fairies that show the trickster side of the type rather than the "cute" side.

Finally, Goodra is the blandest Dragon ever. At least give it Fairy or Poison or something to make it a little less forgettable.
100% agree!

And speaking of Legendaries that shouldn't have been Psychic-type-Solgaleo. It's Steel/Psychic with an ability that's basically Clear Body-Oh, whoops, looks like we got Metagross 2.0! Why not make it Steel/Fire? That's only been used on Heatran!

You know what really should have been changed, though? Incineroar-Let's make it a Fire/Fighting! *gets punched*
In particular Solgaleo might reference the alchemical lion, being described as "devouring the sun", as well as connected to metals via its Steel-type.
Also, as someone mentioned earlier, Incineroar is based on heels, or "bad guy" characters in wrestling, and the Dark-type is the Evil-type in Japanese. Incineroar was designed to be hated, hence why it looks like the Fire/Fighting starters we've come to groan at. Learning that was what made me choose Litten.
Midnight especially, such as Rock/Dark, Rock/Ghost, or some other creative typing like they did with Decidueye. It's really jarring too since Rockruff kept being promoted as sharing a secret with the Alolan Starters.
Pumpkaboo, Phantump... Also, what was that secret anyway?
The thing with Charizard is that it makes just as much sense for it to be Fire/Flying as Fire/Dragon or Dragon/Flying. The same goes for Venomoth being Bug/Poison as opposed to Bug/Flying.

Personally I prefer pokémon not to have a secondary type slapped on them with the slightest justification - I'm quite ok with Pokémon A not being a Dark-type just because it's nocturnal or has black fur or a vaguely sinister appearance
PREACH.

Why do people keep thinking Luxray should be a Dark-type? Truegreen7 even brought that up in a video about misunderstood Pokémon types (and Kartana, and Solgaleo), because to him, Luxray represents light.

As for a type I don't think makes sense, Mawile. The PokéDex says that its jaws are transformed steel horns, but nothing about its design or even origin really screams "steel". Since, as I said before, Dark is Evil, it's the Deceiver Pokémon, and Bite and Crunch are Dark-type moves, I think it should be a Dark-type. Unless its supposed to deceive us into thinking it's a Dark-type...

It is the deciver Pokemon...
Well, the creature it’s based on isn’t really evil. More startling but not really evil. The Steel type is good for it, though, even if it’s horns aren’t metal it can munch through it. One of it’s dex entries is "Attached to its head is a huge set of jaws formed by horns. It can chew through iron beams.”

But there’s no excuse for Golduck and Psyduck not to be Water/Psychic. One has Psy in the name, and gold is symbolic of psychic powers in Japan. Dex entries mention psychic powers. Psyduck and Golduck learn a whopping 4 psychic moves by leveling up and even more via breeding and TMs. Tell me why they’re just pure Water types.

Fun fact: in Gen 3, Psyduck learns Confusion by level-up long before it learns a Water-type move (Hydro Pump at level 50). I once saw someone call Psyduck a bad starter in Rescue Team because of this.

I actually already knew about its design origin, I was just taking the opportunity to make a terrible joke. :p I don't think it was quite designed to be hated, though, so much as teasing at the reaction to repeated Fire/Fighting types.

It even learns more Dark-type moves by leveling up than Steel-type-what's up with that?

While we're on the subject of Pokémon changed to Fairy-type, beyond there being no reason for Azurill to be Normal-type, nothing about Marrill's line really screams "fairy". It seems to have become the de facto cutemon type, but at least most of the other cutemons were at the very least pink. And why did it get a buff to its SPECIAL attack if it has Huge Power?

Yes, they are indeed Grass and Ghost typed-way to state the obvious. That doesn't mean that the type combination loses its creativeness, especially given how recently (Gen 6) the type combination was established. Secondly, Ghost typing for a Starter evolution is creative. It's never been done before. It's that type of creativity and freshness that I expected for Midnight Lycanroc.

Regarding the secret, I'm not sure. I think at this point, it may be safe to say that there was no secret. It was simply a misunderstanding or a hype maneuver of sorts. As of now, Rockruff doesn't share any exclusive characteristics with the Alolan starters or vice versa (apart from them all having access to a Signature move in their final stage, but a lot of Alolan Pokemon do).

The only way I could justify Charizard being Fire/Dragon was if it had the hidden ability Levitate (since being a starter, it must have Blaze normally), I'm extremely upset they didn't do this with Decidueye, and is the main reason I'm not a fan of Decidueye, it's a freaking bird with wings, it's pre-evolutions are Grass/Flying, it becomes Grass/Ghost with no HA Levitate. This is why Flygon and Hydreigon are such well-designed Pokémon, they got an extremely appropriate ability to acknowledge the fact that they're capable of flight.

The Magnemite line doesn't have Levitate, either, despite clearly being floating in the air. And Decidueye already resists Ground-what would be the point of gaining an immunity to a type it would almost never be hit with?

I've heard it's based on an extinct, flightless owl.

As are Doduo and Dodrio, and look at their typing. I guess you can say that those are old Pokémon and GF wasn't 'creative' enough or something back then, but still. It makes the whole 'it's an extinct, flightless owl' seem like an excuse to defend a weird typing more than anything. They either should've made the whole line Grass/Ghost and use that excuse, or just kept the whole thing Grass/Flying imo. The fact that the other two starters don't get a type change in their last evo makes this whole thing even weirder.

How would you react if Torracat was Fire/Normal, and Brionne was Water/Psychic?

Also, the ghost type is becuase owls are associated with spirits in Hawaiian culture. As a Rowlet evolves, it releases the innate abilities in i self to communicate with spirits. Sort of like how Charmander gradually develops wings and draconic features.

If Litten and Popplio would've gotten two types from the start too, and then their types change at the final evo too, I would've accepted Decidueye's case without a doubt. The type change would still have been weird, but Rowlet being the only one makes it just seem even more random.

That's cool, so why not make it Ghost-type from the start or not give it a second type at the start at all? It goes from a flying bird to a not-flying bird. It makes more sense to gain wings (as Charmander does) than to lose them imo. It makes even less sense to still have wings but not be able to fly :p

Well... GF is not so good in flying dynamics... I think Beedrill and Mega Charizard X know your pain.

Also... I think it's more of a specialisation matter. Rowlet and Dartrix have great flying capacity, but Decidueye can still fly, but it's main focus is ghostly spirits.

Why is Noctowl not Flying Psychic? I know it would've given it more weaknesses, but it makes the most sense. By level up it learns the same amount of Normal and Psychic moves in Gen 2, and more Psychic than Normal in Gen 7.

Oddly enough though, the Pokedex only seems to talk about its superior vision and head rotating.

Magnemite is always floating in the air yet you can hit it with Earthquake.

But Flygon can't be hit with EQ even if it's using Dig.

It would certainly help it stand out from the other regional birds, but maybe Game Freak didn't want it to be too similar to Xatu?

Their designs are pretty distinct from each other, and Gen 2 had multiple type combinations repeated. (Heck, Lugia is Psychic/Flying as well) Not to say that that wasn't the reasoning, but it's pretty silly logic if that's the case.

Speaking of Lugia, I'm honestly amazed no-one's brought it up yet. My headcanon is that it didn't start living underwater until the tower burned down.
