User namespace edits

I think we should have a rule on userpage edits >_> Ever looked at Recent changes, and the first 20 edits are all in the User talk or User namespace? I'm sure you have, as that's how it always is. Always. ALWAYS.

Honestly though, I think everyone's just focusing on nitpicking their personal pages (of course, someone'll bring up my team editing but at least 4/5 of those are complete references for my games.) and not actually editing the whole reason why Bulbapedia is existing.

I keep forgetting to bring up this subject here. /: It'd be something to discuss here, anyway, with the signature policy in tow being discussed here as well.

I don't see this as a problem...there are bigger things that need taken care of, such as the finalization of signature rules...if that hasn't been done yet.

I think people need to remember to use the Minor Edit button more often. >.< Userspace edits should always be minor... no matter how big of an edit it actually is...

Aside from that, I don't think it's a very big deal. If a single user is spamming RC with a single page, I would just post on their talk page and remind them of the Show Preview button (no need to edit five times when you could do it all in one shot). Userspace edits are always more active then mainspace, especially on a big wiki; there's not too much left game-wise on Bulbapedia that needs editing, not until a new Pokemon game comes out or something. I see the same thing on plenty of other wikis (for example, GuildWiki; no new expansions or major updates lately, so there's not much to edit). Unless it's actually getting in the way of productive edits, I don't see much of a problem. Just means we've got an active userbase, and a limited number of articles that really need improving.

I think it's ridiculous that the database is getting cluttered over this. Every single revision is kept, permanently - each edit forces an update to the database, and the larger the database gets, the less efficient it will be to search it, etc. So please do spare a thought before pointless edits.

The first thing that comes to mind it 'SMALL SCREEN IS SMALL' but I decide to actually look at the page instead.

..yeah. and to think out of a.. what, 350-450px area, you only see one page in the main namespace?

EDIT: Then again, I've been using 1280x800 and 1400x900 for a long time now (it's been.. what, 10 months since I last used a computer running 1024x768 in my house? XD; so seeing smaller sizes is 'WOAH HOLY CRAP THAT'S TINY'.

You know what's a good idea, though? Showing only the Main namespace by the dropdown menu, and then bookmarking it. Although-- this will not show any logs whatsoever and.. yeah. :| If only if there was just a way to turn off User talk and User only. *sighs*

If you select User or User Talk on the drop-down menu, then check the "invert selection" box, that'll show everything but User or User Talk. I don't think you can hide them both, though.

At this rate, we'll need an editorial degree banning people from doing this. I'd hate to lock people out from the User namespace, but if that's what is causing the server issues, I'd do it.
