The water bear entry is also a bit inaccurate; the water bear isn't an actual bear. It's a microorganism. Also called the tardigrade. I just used "water bear" because I thought that name would be more common and it set up the punny names perfectly.

And the Luckatross is based on the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. That poem is the origin of the phrase "albatross around your neck," which is the physical sign of the unending curse the Mariner suffers. The albatross was a ship's good luck until someone killed it. That's why the Luckatross is a trainer's good luck until someone faints it.
