In the World of Pokémon, there lives a vast number and variety of amazing creatures to befriend and collect. Every week, we will be focusing on a single one of these Pokémon or evolutionary line and talking about what makes it special. This week's Pokémon of choice is the Woobat line!
Introduced in Pokémon Black and White, these Psychic/Flying Pokémon are based on a variety of real life bat species, such as flying foxes, Honduran white bats, and the heart-nosed bat. Like several other Unova Pokémon, Woobat and Swoobat can be seen as a spiritual successor to a generation 1 Pokémon, Zubat and Golbat. Like these older 'mons, Woobat seems to have underdeveloped eyes and navigates primarily with ultrasonic waves. Perhaps the most striking feature of both of these Pokémon are their heart-shaped noses that they can use as suckers to stick to walls or to fire destructive sonic blasts. Woobat played a minor but consistent role in the anime as a member of Jessie's team. It mostly used Air Slash and Hidden Power to attack from a distance, but was never shown to be particularly strong in combat.
While Swoobat's Psychic/Flying type isn't unique and both its offensive and defensive stats seem underwhelming at a glance, it's managed to make a small name for itself with its impressive speed and phenomenal Simple ability. This ability allows a single Calm Mind to grant an instant +2 to both Special Attack and Special Defense and also gives the Egg Move Stored Power a sizable 90 base power. Subsequent stat boosts only increase these values, causing Swoobat to be one of the most efficient set-up Pokémon in the game.
Here are some questions to consider to get conversation rolling. You don't have to answer all of them or any of them in your post as long as you're staying on topic and within global forum rules.

- Do you like or dislike this Pokémon? Why?
- How is this Pokémon in-game?
- How is this Pokémon in competitive play? Are there any interesting strategies you like to use for them?
- Do you like this Pokémon's representation in the anime? Are there any moments or qualities in particular you enjoy/dislike?
- How do you think this Pokémon would interact with our world?
- If given the power to, would you change anything about this Pokémon and if so, what would you change?
- After Gen V's experimentation with this concept, would you like to see any other old Pokémon concepts revisited or reimagined?
- How do you feel Woobat compares with other Psychic and/or Flying types in the game, especially Sigilpyh, which has the same typing and was introduced in the same game?
- Do you think Swoobat's stats are too low, or does it compensate well enough with its powerful ability, good speed, and decent movepool?
