Pokemon XD Gale Of Darkness

And the fact that XD gives you the Master Ball without an inconvenient side trip before you enter Cipher's lair helped make it easier too. The ol' snag-Lugia-and-turn-it-on-Greevil-trick, anyone? =P

Well yeah you can catch wild Pokemon in the game but it's not really how you catch it. In the hanheld Pokemon games you fought the Pokemon and threw a PokeBall but in XD you put a PokeSnack down and wait for the PokeRadar to beep.

Sure, we all agree that Colosseum and XD can't compare to the handhelds, but you have to remember, there have been worse games. I can think of some. Snap, Channel, Puzzle series, the Stadiums only because they didn't have a storyline, Battle Revolution, and just maybe Yellow.

These two games were Pokemon's first jaunt into the realm of 3D console RPGs. Give them a little leeway. I'm not expecting them to pull a new Halo or Kingdom Hearts out from nowhere anytime soon. Not to mention, from what I saw on the title screens, Game Freak had almost no say in these games at all. They were developed by a totally different group, Genius Sonority. Let's turn Final Fantasy XIII over to the makers of the corny Disney Channel GBA games and give 'em free roam.

XD and Colosseum were considerably good, given the circumstances. The new region was more expansive mapwise, probably the largest in the series, but with limited room to move around, since you had a vehicle. But the vast majority of places you could visit and people you could meet was almost on par with Final Fantasy. Maybe for the hopeful third outing to Orre, we could get some kind of FF Overworld map, with random Pokemon battles showing up.

Also, Colosseum had a decent background story. Your character wasn't a goody-goody two shoes from a forgotten corner of the world, you had basically a punk guy with spiky hair and white war paint who went around stealing Pokemon. Sure, Wes goes over to the light side before the game begins, but what's to be expected?

I really only have one bone to pick with the Orre games. Game Freak is using them as a barrier to giving us a GSC remake, saying that it's not needed, now that we have every Johto Pokemon avalible to us through Colosseum and XD.

Are you listening to this part Nintendo? Make a Wii Pokemon RPG set in Johto. Use the Johto Characters, Pokemon, Places, everything. And go crazy. We'll accept it (at least I will!)
