Moltres essentially destroyed one of Ash's strongest Pokemon, arguably Gary's strongest Pokemon, and shook off a rather strong Electric combo attack fairly easily, I wouldn't call that "degraded."

Yeah, Zapdos was nerfed (in-episode it's explained) but it was nice seeing the Moltres respect.

Something to keep in mind, Gary was trying to provoke him, that being said, he's probably somewhere in the middle of what Gary was implying, and him battling Zapdos.

Oh yeah, as some noted the "continuity" of just this series (the Camp Ash missed being referenced, Gou failing to capture Pidgeotto) continues to be spot on.

That's somewhat fair, but I will say, this episode did a fine job focusing on Gou's perspective here, something people probably wish for Ash more (and I can get that, but feel it isn't necessarily "needed").
