Err I don't think so. If I were a kid I'd assume that everything was in the same continuity because I wouldn't be overthinking it this much!

Am I right in thinking that the current evidence for the hypothesis that M20 & SM are in the same continuity remains only: - Rica's twitter post and - no explicit mentions of definite normal continuity events?

I suspect the definitive answer (if it's "no" :P) will come from the TRio. If they didn't interact with Pikachu in this, it will be a real stretch that movie and SM TRio are the same.

... and wasn't Kasumi a secondary character in every movie she appeared in? I don't remember her ever taking anything like an equal role to Satoshi.

That's not how I read it. It sounds to me like they're from a point in the "past", but nothing written suggested that their pasts are alternate.

Parallel stories, same characters but from the past makes it sound like the origin story at least would be the same... But at this point God only knows what is intended.

You know my issue with this whole issue? I feel like we are all shaving a bit close with Occam's razor. In order to reason either that SM & M20 are or aren't in the same continuity as previous series, the arguments we are making are SO tenuous that reading back on posts in these threads is...

But it's Mima and he's the maverick responsible for just inventing the Rocket radio show more-or-less when he felt like it, so I feel like we're allowed to take what he says with a pinch of salt :-P
