Ironic things about Pokémon

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

How you can enter someone else's home in towns/cities

Not ironic, just weird.

Irony=/=entering strangers houses or wondering were your mom sleeps. That's just unexplained, random things

Irony=Silver boasting about how much you suck when you always defeat him, at every turn. That's irony

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

okay when Gary says smell ya later I think that's a tad irony

Unless Gary never bathes, its not.

Irony
Types of irony

Modern theories of rhetoric distinguish between verbal, dramatic and situational irony.

  • Verbal irony is a disparity of expression and intention: when a speaker says one thing but means another, or when a literal meaning is contrary to its intended effect. An example of this is sarcasm.
  • Dramatic irony is a disparity of expression and awareness: when words and actions possess a significance that the listener or audience understands, but the speaker or character does not.
  • Situational irony is the disparity of intention and result: when the result of an action is contrary to the desired or expected effect. Likewise, cosmic irony is disparity between human desires and the harsh realities of the outside world (or the whims of the gods). By some definitions, situational irony and cosmic irony are not irony at all.

Cyrus capturing Dialga and Palkia to try and reform the universe only to have summoned Giratina and risk destroying all of existence is situational irony. Yeah, he was planning to destroy the current one, but also to rebuild a new one. Giratina's appearance was unexpected and made that impossible.

Its also a bit ironic how Giovanni fully acknowledges the power of teamwork hence the reason why he went off to train to make himself a better leader for Team Rocket, yet in doing so, he dissolves his team.

Silver claiming that he does not need others to be powerful, but in the world of Pokemon, power comes from working with a team of Pokemon, which he does. Though he doesn't treat them well, the fact is, his power as a trainer relied on a team of Pokemon.

Cyrus disregarding emotions as useless, yet he is not very stoic himself. He let his ambitions get the best of him, in Diamond and Pearl, his ambitions were so strong that he vowed to fulfill his dream even after losing, in platinum, his shame of losing/being wrong about Giratina causes him to retreat into the Distortion World.

It is ironic that capturing Pokemon in nets and sell them to high bidders who may not actually be evil, just rich and lazy and will actually have the law fighting you, yet people like Paul can legitimately capture Pokemon and traumatize them and nothing can be done.

It's a game why should we know if characters bathe or not

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

Here are some examples of Irony:

Choosing to name your Tyranitar Tiny= It's ironic because Tyranitar is most definately not a tiny creature

If the name of your eight foot tall, spiky, man-eating, flesh-eating beast happens to be Fluffy.

The heroes trying to save someone that isn't in any danger

"Of course, you're absolutely right. The world is pink" [/sarcasm]

"I lost?!?! For the fourteenth time?!?!?! Y'know what? You kinda suck at this"

Get it?

-"Smell ya later"
-Where your mom sleeps
-Entering the houses of total strangers

These are not examples of irony.

Pssht naw, the biggest irony with him is the very existance of his Crobat.

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

Any thread about ironic things is fated to turn into an argument about what irony actually means.

Ironically.

Wait, maybe not...

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

The fact those Daycare people (or anyone else for that matter) NEVER know where the eggs come from.

It's a simple answer to this - when a "daddy" pokemon loves a "mummy" pokemon very much, they share a special cuddle, then an egg appears. The Day Care people are too disturbed after watching the special cuddle to tell anyone the truth, so they pretend not to know :p

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

I think Magikarp is ironic.
Because according to the Pokedex it gets progressively weaker each generation, which puts the theory "Survival of the fittest" completely on its head, because such an evolution would come from only the WEAKEST individuals breeding which makes me wonder what the heck happened to the strong ones. (Unless weaker Magikarp becomes stronger Gyarados, but how on earth do they survive that long?)

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

That's not what 'survival of the fittest' actually means, though. Fitness, in that regard, refers simply to how well-adapted a creature is to its environment, not fitness as in physical strength. It's perfectly possible for a creature to evolve to be smaller and weaker, because strength isn't always the most necessary trait for survival. Most birds are probably a lot weaker than the dinosaurs they evolved from, for example. Anyway, yeah... </biologynerd>

Magikarp is pretty steeped in irony, though. It's the only Pokémon to have a sarcastic name. At least it doesn't have an outright abusive name, like poor old Purugly. That's just being unkind...

Maybe he traded with one of his commanders after their golbat evolved.

Through not ironic, i find it weird Cyrus uses pokemon at all. Rather the just letting his sub ordinates do it for him

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

another one is how silver hates weak pokemon yet still has unevolved pokemon

and I'm about to change the name of this thread to funny things about pokemon lol

no don't that way they win xD

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

How does Skarmory fly at MACH SPEEDS yet have a speed stat that is AVERAGE. (IRONICALLY :p that actually is a good thing if you look at it)

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

These two are obvious and intentional but deserve their mention nonetheless:

-How Magikarp is one of the weakest Pokemon ever and evolves into a total beast

-How Feebas is so ugly looking (supposedly) and evolves into the beautiful Milotic

Re: Ironic things about pokemon

how, according to Pokedex entries, Doduo is faster then Dodrio, but it has a lower base speed
