The Lunar New Year 2022 event has started in Pokémon GO, and will be running through until February 7th, at 8:00 p.m. local time. The Shiny variant of the Lion Cub Pokémon, Litleo is also making its Pokémon GO debut with the beginning of the Year of the Tiger.

Niantic has released details for Pokémon GO Tour: Live events in Monterrey, Mexico at Parque Fundidora, and in Kaohsiung, Taiwan at the Taiwan Lantern Festival, which are being held one day after the worldwide Pokémon GO Tour: Johto event. Meanwhile, the originally planned Pokémon GO Tour: Live event in Yas Bay, Abu Dhabi has been cancelled due to the pandemic. Trainers who have previously purchased tickets for this event will receive a refund.

Niantic has released details of Pokémon GO's monthly update for February 2022. These events are scheduled to take place between Tuesday, February 1st, at 1:00 p.m. PST to Tuesday, March 1st, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8).

Niantic has announced that the Cottonweed Pokémon, Hoppip will be the featured Pokémon for February 2022's Pokémon GO Community Day. Hoppip will be appearing more frequently in the wild and its Shiny variant can also be encountered. Skiploom will also appear in Parks alongside Hoppip. The event will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. When you evolve Skiploom into Jumpluff during, or within two hours after the event, it will learn the Charged Attack Acrobatics. The move will deal 110 damage in Trainer Battles and 100 damage in Gyms and in raids. Niantic has announced further details of the continuation of Pokémon GO's Season of Heritage story, with another event focused on Team GO Rocket and their nefarious schemes. Team GO Rocket will be executing their plans for a take-over until January 30th at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Over the past few days, Niantic has released more information on the Pokémon GO Tour: Johto event, which will be taking place next month on February 26th. Tickets are now available for purchase in the in-game shop for US $11.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency).

The Season of Heritage storyline in Pokémon GO is beginning to wind up with the start of the new Power Plant event, which is is inspired by the power plants found in the Kanto and Kalos regions. In this event, which will be running in-game until February 1st, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. local time, Spark's intuition has lead him to believe that the final mechanism of the door will require Electric-type Pokémon to power it. Players will work with Spark to catch Pokémon, as he makes progress toward unlocking the final mechanism of the mysterious door located at the historical cave site. As Spark proceeds with his investigation, he begins to have a creeping feeling that something unexpected is going to happen. It seems that a nefarious force has also caught wind of the door and the power that lies beyond it.

A special Pokémon UNITE Winter Tournament has been announced for players in the Asian region. This will be an official one-day online tournament organized by JCG Co., Ltd., in cooperation with The Pokémon Company. The regions eligible to participate include Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, The Philippines, and South Korea. The tournament will receive official support in both English and Japanese languages. The top-ranked teams in each tournament may be invited to the offline tournament held in Japan in the future.

The Pokémon Company has announced three Pokémon 2022 International Challenge online competitions, which will be taking place over February, March, and April for all players globally. Top players from Japan in these online competitions will also qualify for the Pokémon Japan Championships 2022 Qualifiers that will be held in May. Successful trainers from that competition will then qualify to participate in the Pokémon Japan Championships 2022 in June.

A letter published on the official Pokémon UNITE website from Masaaki Hoshino, the game's producer, has made several announcements about upcoming changes and future plans for the title over the coming months, including a confirmation that Pokémon UNITE will be joining the 2022 Pokémon World Championships.

Niantic has announced the Mountains of Power event for Pokémon GO, which continues the current storyline from the Season of Heritage. This event will be taking place between January 7th, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. to Thursday, January 13th, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

As the Season of Heritage continues, Niantic are offering players an opportunity to return to Pokémon's roots with the introduction of a new kind of Community Day in Pokémon GO, the Community Day Classic events. The first of these event will run on on January 22nd, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, and feature none other than the Seed Pokémon Bulbasaur.

Lucky-themed Pokémon will be appearing more frequently in Max Raid Battles in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield through January 10th, 2022, at 8:59 a.m. JST. These Pokémon include Meowth, Magikarp, Sudowoodo, and Darmanitan. Very rarely, a Shiny Magikarp may also be encountered. To encounter these Pokémon in a Max Raid Battle, players will need to connect their Nintendo Switch systems to the internet through the Y-Comm or by selecting Mystery Gift in the X menu, then selecting Get the Wild Area News. Simply walk up to and interact with any Pokémon Den in the Wild Area whenever you see a pillar of light shining from it to start a Max Raid Battle. This event does not affect the Pokémon encountered within Dynamax Adventures.

Registration for the Test Your Luck! Online Competition in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield has started, and will remain open until January 6th, 2022. The competition itself will then run from January 7th, 2022 at 00:00 UTC to January 9th, 2022 at 23:59 UTC.
