Bulbapedia may seem monolithic at times, but the wiki's success rests upon the efforts of everyday contributors and especially the team of Researchers, Poké Maniacs and Super Nerds that run the site and manage those contributions. In this article we'll be speaking with some of those (very human) Admins and figuring out what makes both them and Bulbapedia tick, covering their day-to-day priorities as well as their future plans. Whether you're a seasoned wiki editor or have never so much as thought about getting involved, we hope you'll find it enlightening!

The team from Full Restore, whose livestreamed Pokéthon marathons have been raising money for a variety of worthy causes since 2013, have announced the return of their popular Trainers Unite event, bringing together Pokémon streamers big and small to raise money for charity. The 2022 event, which has been scheduled for September 4th to 10th, will be raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a leading organisation in the fight against childhood cancer.

After the top 100 were revealed early last month, the winners of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Contest 2022 have finally been revealed today by Creatures, Inc. and The Pokémon Company International via the contest's official website, as well as official Pokémon social media channels. The contest was first announced back in September 2021, and asked artists for submissions that captured the theme of “the daily life of Pokémon”.

James Turner, the British graphic designer who served as Art Director for Pokémon Sword and Shield, announced today that he is leaving Game Freak to establish his own game studio, All Possible Futures, together with his old friend Jonathan Biddle, who most recently worked on the indie title The Swords of Ditto.

With Twitch Plays Pokémon having been featured in the recent Catch a Million to Conquer Kids’ Cancer charity event in support of St. Baldrick's Foundation, we thought now might be a good time to share some recent research relating to the Twitch Plays Pokémon phenomenon. Our latest featured article for this series comes from Jenny Saucerman & Dennis Ramirez, both from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Both authors completed their PhDs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on digital media. Jenny Saucerman's work primarily focuses on gender and STEM, gender and gaming, and Pokémon. She was one of the winners of Xbox’s Women in Gaming Award at the 2015 Game Developers’ Conference. Dennis Ramirez research has focused on evaluation of educational games. He has over a decade of experience making games professionally and independently, working with groups including OLPC, NIH, NSF, and the DoD.

With Twitch Plays Pokémon slated to feature in the upcoming Catch a Million to Conquer Kids’ Cancer charity event in support of St. Baldrick's Foundation, we thought now might be a good time to share some recent research relating to the Twitch Plays Pokémon phenomenon. This article article from our Open Access series comes from Argyrios "Aris" Emmanouloudis, who completed his PhD on online communities and video game fandom at the University of Amsterdam, and until recently was the Games Programme Coordinator at SAE Institute Amsterdam. This short paper, which presents a case study on the Twitch Plays Pokémon community, was originally presented at FanLIS 2021, an interdisciplinary academic conference which brings together researchers from fandom, fan studies, and library and information science.

Between April 24th to May 1st, a collective of Pokémon Twitch streamers are hoping to raise $100,000 by collectively catching 1 million Pokémon. The Catch a Million to Conquer Kids’ Cancer marathon is being held in support of St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organisation that is commited to funding childhood cancer research worldwide. Any and all streamers, big or small, with any appreciation whatsoever for Pokémon, are invited to participate in the Catch a Million event. Viewers will also be able to participate directly in a special Twitch Plays race.

The team from Pokéthon, whose livestreamed Pokémon marathons have been raising money for a variety of worthy causes since 2013, announced earlier today that they were launching a new type of community campaign, Pokéthon Responds. Whereas their usual charity activities are compressed into marathons lasting only a few days, Pokéthon Responds is intended as a longer month-long event which can offer a rapid response to pressing issues impacting on the wider community. The first Pokéthon Responds, launching today, will be in assistance of The Equality Texas Foundation, an organisation that works to secure full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Texans through education, community organizing, and collaboration. This campaign will run through until March 31st, the International Transgender Day of Visibility.

Over December, Bulbagarden continued its annual tradition of holiday season contests. For 2021, we ran a collection of four separate contests, with more than $2000 USD of prizes on offer. The competition for prizes this year was particularly strong, with most contests seeing about double the number of entries that we saw in 2020.

This December, TheSpeedGamers, a group of video game enthusiasts who play for marathon hours to raise money for charities, will be hosting their latest Pokémon Charity Marathon to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The marathon will be streamed live on TheSpeedGamers Twitch Channel at http://twitch.tv/thespeedgamers from Friday December 17 at 6pm US Central Time.

The Pokémon Company International today dropped a surprise announcement about the launch of the Pokémon Presents Super Pet Contest. From now until November 9, 2021, at 12:01am PST, Pokémon fans from across North America, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand will be able to enter photos of their real world pets to give their furry (or not so furry) partners a chance to shine in the spotlight.

The Pokémon 25th anniversary logo was revealed during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 26, 2020. So it's only appropriate that this year's Macy's Parade would include the introduction of a brand new Pokémon balloon.
