In a day where Niantic has managed to anger and frustrate a significant and vocal portion of the Pokémon GO player base, they can at least be thankful that they weren't the only company thinking now was the appropriate time to go "hold my beer" with a poorly considered statement. Showing a shocking lack of awareness of internet memes for a social media manager, not to mention common sense and empathy, the official Twitter account of Pokémon UNITE developers TiMi Studios earlier today apparently decided that, instead of giving the simple and obvious response to a request to say "gay rights", that they'd instead like to turn themselves into even more of a public pariah than the monitization model of Pokémon UNITE already had.

Pokémon Day 2021 is upon us, marking the 25th anniversary of the release of Pokémon Red and Green in Japan. The day will kick off with a special Pokémon Presents presentation at midnight Japan time, with a promised 20-minute-long stream of Pokémon news. Ahead of this special presentation though, we need to have a chat. A chat about how we as a fandom respond to news and announcements, particularly when those announcements weren’t quite what we were hoping for. Because quite frankly, if we’re going to see the same kind of behaviour with the Pokémon Day announcements this year as we’ve seen with other unpopular announcements like Sword & Shield not including the entire National Dex, or Pokémon UNITE, then we’ll only have proven we don’t deserve to have good things.

When the Pokémon Trading Card Game was released in 1999, the cards had little to no value. As Pokémon's popularity surged, so did card prices. Most veteran Pokémon fans can name the most popular -- and expensive -- card from the Base Set expansion: Charizard. Featuring high HP and damage counts alongside a glorious picture of the Pokémon breathing fire, Base Charizard was -- and perhaps still is -- a (if not the) Holy Grail of Pokémon collecting. Even now, the card sells for at least $80 or more. Logic, a retired rapper, Twitch streamer, and suicide prevention advocate, recently obtained a PSA Grade 10 1st Edition Base Set Charizard for $226,000, about the price of a house. This amount breaks the record for Nintendo collectibles.

The official Pokemon Twitter fell under scrutiny earlier this week after making a tweet regarding Porygon.
