Legends: Arceus

The 2024 edition of the Catch a Million charity marathon is continuing all week, with more than two dozen separate streamers (and counting!) taking part in the event. The Pokémon Company has announced that Super Music Collections for Pokémon Sword and Shield + Expansion Pass, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Pokémon Sword and Shield + The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will each be released in Japan on Pokémon Day on February 27th, 2024. Pre-orders are now open on the Pokémon Center ONLINE website in Japan, while stocks last, and are limited to a maximum of 2 items per person.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be featured in the RTA in Japan Summer 2023 charity marathon, which is being held in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan, from August 10th to August 15th, and includes a mix of online and on-location runs. This year's event will be raising money for Doctors Without Borders

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be receiving a minor update to fix an issue with three separate move descriptions. The three impacted moves, Dire Claw, Stone Axe, and Ceaseless Edge, are the signature moves of Sneasler, Kleavor, and Hisuian Samurott, who will be eligible for battle in the upcoming Regulation Set D, which comes into force on July 1st.

The official Twitter account for Pokemon Masters EX today tweeted a short teaser for the arrival of new Sync Pairs featuring characters from Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The brief video clip shows Lucas and Dawn looking at a Space-time distortion while a crack appearing above Pasio. No date has yet been provided on which characters will be appearing in these Sync Pairs, or when the new Sync Pairs will become available, however the Twitter account also promised that more information would be forthcoming on May 28th.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have taken out multiple awards at Famitsu Dengeki's Game Awards 2022, which were broadcast yesterday evening on Famitsu's official YouTube channel, with the game itself receiving the Best Scenario award, while fan fave Arven picked up an award for Best Character.

While Nintendo's latest quarterly investor report has revealed the company has generated significantly less profit in 2022 compared to the performance of the previous year, the report also highlights several significant milestones set during this last quarter for the Nintendo Switch, and for the Pokémon Franchise.

This paper demonstrates that a single commercial video game can be used to explore a variety of geological and geomorphological concepts including volcanology, economic geology, and hazard mitigation, with direct real-world examples to support the geoscientific understanding.

The official Japanese Pokémon website and the official Play! Pokémon Twitter account have announced a new distribution for Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Players can receive a Shiny Baneful Fox Mask, based on the one that Alec wears in the Pokémon: Hisuian Snow animated short, by selecting "Get via internet" from the Mystery Gift feature. This distribution will end in a little under one year's time, on June 1st, 2023, at 5am PDT.

The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo has announced that an update to Pokémon HOME version 2.0.0 will be available in the coming weeks. Nintendo's latest quarterly investor briefing has revealed that their January-March quarter has seen a solid improvement over the previous year, with much of that improvement owing to the continued strong performance of the latest entries in the Pokémon franchise.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus has received an update to software Ver. 1.1.0, "Daybreak". In addition to bugfixes, the Daybreak update adds additional content that will be available after viewing the game's end credits. In this update, Trainers will begin investigating mysterious mass outbreaks of Pokémon that are popping up all over the Hisui region. Players will also have a chance to battle powerful opponents, like Legendary Pokémon and wardens.

Much rests upon the shoulders of Legends: Arceus. Though the series has continued to enjoy commercial success on the incredibly popular Nintendo Switch, critical reception in the past three years has, anecdotally, not quite kept pace. Sword and Shield gained some notoriety for cuts to the Pokédex and a Wild Area that was disappointing to some, and reactions to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which quickly gained a reputation for being at least a little buggy, were similarly mixed. These titles weren’t loathed - far from it - but they fed into a personally-felt unease that the franchise’s halcyon days might have been on the Nintendo DS, with titles such as the original Diamond and Pearl, Heartgold and Soulsilver, and Black and White, two console eras ago. That’s why it comes as a significant personal relief that Legends: Arceus is good. Really good.
