National Pokedex Order

I know that the official pokedex ordering is used in the wiki always, but I thought that maybe we should make one that makes more sense.

It has always frustrated me how the national pokedex lists them by game essentially. Sure, if they are being created by humans that makes sense, but to me it seems like they would have two orders, order of discovery, which is the current order (it wouldn't truly be that way if they were real, but this one I am willing to sacrifice) and order of convenience.

Basically we would order it something like:

-Starter Pokemon,
-Pokemon found in all regions natively (see Note1)
-Kanto Pokemon
-Johto Pokemon
-Hoenn Pokemon
-Sinnoh Pokemon
-Legendary Pokemon

Basically we would have the starters as the first 36 pokemon, then Kanto pokemon with all evolutions in order no matter what generation they are from, and so on and so forth.

We could instead of having it based on region and evolution, make it similar to the formatting of a regional pokedex. Which has certain patterns we could follow in creating this one.

Also, something that should be included in every game from now on is the ability to view the pokemon's native region(s) and where to catch them there.

So, I'm just wondering if anyone wants to help me in performing this task, as I think if we could create something of the sort and submit it to nintendo as a sorting option for future National pokedexes, perhaps it would make it easier for people attempting to see the relationships of pokemon or find evolved forms.

Note 1: Johto regional pokedex is somewhat inaccurate, because rather than creating a pokedex for the region, they simply attempted to make it match the original New Pokedex available in G/S/C as closely as possible. This means that someone should really go through and find the pokemon that clearly aren't native to Johto and eliminate them from that regional pokedex for the sake of this project.

That seems interesting! I don't have enough time to do it, but I will try to look in on your progress.

I'd prefer if it went in order of Type - Legendary - Event Legendary , with each category being sorted alpabetically by the name of the lowest stage of evolution in that evolution chain.

The Japanese TCG order their sets by type, so we could just use that, and expand on it.

I have one incomplete reordered dex listing on my subpage in Bulbapedia.
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w...s_and_ends#If_National_Dex_was_reorganized...
It doesn't go in that order you told, though.

No, it doesn't, but it is an interesting start to this project. I think this ordering for the starters would be a good idea.

I think having it by type is too obvious and not as proper for what the ingame world would create

Edit: I found this on Bulbapedia which would also be helpful in creating it List of Pokémon by evolution family, and is it just me, or shouldn't it be the INTERNational Pokedex order? Or are all of these regions really part of one nation? That would make sense as far as being based on Japan goes.

It makes more sense though. After all, in real life animals are categorised by what species they are, rather than the order they are discovered. For example, an encyclopaedia doesn't go:

Fish, Fish, Fish, Ladybug, Fish, Fish, Snake, Cricket.

Using the idea I posted earlier, I did produce this:

For the sake of easier organisation, I counted all Normal/Flying types as Flying types. Of course, moving the starters to the top of their types wouldn't cause too much disruption, but with them being Alphabetical by lowest-evolutionary relative, it makes a specific Pokémon easier to search for.

I remember another site making something like this, but I can't think of it right now. It was something like The Pokémon Factory. I'll post a link if I find it.

EDIT: It's a Fakémon site, so there are lots of fakes slipped into the ordering, but it's here.

Well, I'm not completely against type ordering, but starters need to be first, and Legendary need to be last. And sorting by type could be a function added to the National Dex, I want an ordering that is similar to the structure of the regional dexes, except on a National level so that it feels more like the regular structure rather than a giant jumbled mess like the regular National Ordering.

Then make one yourself? Not hard...just get a list of all the Pokémon and put them together, took me about twenty minutes to do mine (and remember, I had to go through all the types, find out which ones are primary, which ones are secondary, get all evolutionary relatives together...if you use mine as a basis, they're all together).

Yes, I was going to make one by myself, but I posted here to see if anyone wanted to help collaborate.

Im in. Starters first legends last. Then i suggest types in this order: after starters, Normal, Grass, Fire, Water, Bug, Flying. Not sure about the others.
