Welcome to the twentieth instalment in the Video Games Forum's new weekly series of polls! (Don't ask my why I mislabelled last week's as the 20th >>).

Centered around the Pokemon series of video games, these polls will be based on the various different aspects of the popular video game franchise. Every Monday, a Video Games staff member will post a new poll that'll remained stickied up on top of the forum. Suggestions for polls and questions can be sent to Joshawott, and they could possibly used for new polls (credit will be given, of course).

With that out of the way, here is the poll, which is quite topical if I do say so myself: What was your initial reaction to the announcement of "Pokémon + Nobunaga's Ambition"? Were you already enthusiastic, were you willing to dismiss it as a bad idea straight away, or are you waiting to hear more about the game?

As much as I would have loved it to have been the third version (gimme those move tutors already!) I'm actually hopeful about this game. As I said in another thread, I've only ever played one game similar to this (or what I think is similar, judging by the screens shown) and I really liked that game, so I'm quite optimistic about this game's potential.

So yeah, definately looking forward to this atm. Although I do think it's too early to really say whether I will like it or not and I usually only play the main series games. But so far, I'm interested.

(I would still like grey, though.)

I'm cautiously optimistic... does that count as 1 or 3?

Eh, I voted 1. Though I'm usually similar to blitzle in that I mainly just play main-series games. (Partially because of that goddamn Salamence in Ranger...)

Since I've never even heard of the game it's crossing over with, I'm waiting for more information.

The art looks nice, but I've been misled by games with pretty art before. As Crystal_Talian said, I haven't heard of Nobunaga so I'll wait and see.

When I heard and saw this thing... one thing's for sure. My body was not ready. The whole thing came out of the left field and I think it's a cool awesome combination of stuff, even if I have almost never heard of the other series. Give me it any time soon, preferably officially translated!

I'm waiting to hear more. I've never heard of Nobunaga's Ambition so I waiting till we get more information.

Instantly positive. I'd never heard of Nobunaga's Ambition before, but I do love Tactical Turn-based RPGs, and the Ranger and Mystery Dungeon games have given me hours of fun. This could be my favourite spin-off game yet.

I won't bash it because I haven't played it yet, but I am very worried about them straying away from the original concept of Pokemon.

So I vote Neutral.

First reaction? Google "Nobunaga's Ambition."

Second reaction? Oh hell yes. I wouldn't have expected Pokémon to do a crossover like this, but... yes. I really, really want to buy it. Yes.

I was so excited that, like two other posters before me in this thread, I just had to change my avatar.

Nah, I was more like "huh."

My mind went blank when I first saw this because I really wanted a Pokemon crossover game. I feel so excited now.

I never heard of Nobunaga's Ambition before so I'm spectacle about this whole crossover thing. Besides that, the gameplay looks a little boring.

On another note, why in the world is it for the DS anyway? Do they WANT the game to sell poorly with people moving to the 3DS?

I'll quote from my blog on this issue:
Simple, because Gen V currently isn't. Sure, we have some 3DS Pokemon games, but they aren't a cross-over.

I'm pretty sure Koei wants to hit a new audience with this, and the easiest way to do that is to make sure that every player who owns a Pokemon game will own the system that this cross-over will be on, and right now, that's the DS.

So yes, people are moving to the 3DS (let's ignore that they're moving to it at a snail's pace) but those "people" aren't necessarily Pokemon fans. Any fan of the game is guaranteed to own at least a DS. Having it on the 3DS will alienate those who find it interesting, but not interesting enough to drop $170 for, and let's face it, people aren't going to drop $170 for an uncertain future.

And why would it sell poorly even if everyone moves to the 3DS? To quote the rest of my blog:

And guess what 3DS guys, you can still play this, so if you find it interesting, I don't understand the logic that people use saying "too bad its not for the 3DS"

The 3DS is sellin very well it sold more then they expected to and 170 bucks is frieken cheep for a new system and it's a fact that Pokemon is going to be on the 3DS either with Grey or in Gen VI (Actually now I'm sure Grey will be on the 3DS I think this game is the swan song for the DS) Oh and I think this game looks sweet

It sold less than they expected, hence their massive price drop. It may be selling more now, but it doesn't change the fact that it had a rocky start, or what I said about why it makes sense to put a cross-over on the same system as the game its crossing with..

Yeah, Pokemon will be on the 3DS eventually. But guess where Pokemon is when this game is released? They can't count on waiting a few months for Game Freak to maybe release the third version (which never sells as much as the first) to push 3DS' out to Pokemon fans, and then expect them to pick out the games.

If this game is successful, no doubt a sequel to it will take place on the 3DS since it had established some ground within the Pokemon fanbase.

Right now, I have a quite negative feeling about these games. I'm sorry, but I've always been a lover of the main series, not the crappy spin-offs.
