Preview BW070: The Donamite Gets Underway! Zuruggu VS Yanakkie!!

OK, I haven't seen this thread since page four, until I looked through it all just now, and all I can say is... wow. So much promise for this tournament that will hopefully be good enough to more than make up for the disaster that was the previous tournament. Where should I start?

For starters, glad to see all of the rivals not named Trip return at last. Seeing them make regular appearances in non-tournament events would also be nice, but this is good enough for now. Interesting new batch of other competitors as well.

Bianca defeating Trip in the tournament will only make Trip's rivalry with Ash look even more forced than it already is (if of course he continues to be portrayed as Ash's superior until the end of their rivalry) but at the same time, I stopped carring about their rivalry and so now I'm glad to see that poorly conceived rival character eliminated quickly. Hopefully he'll just start being treated as an equal - or better yet, an inferior - to Ash so as not to make Ash look bad in front of him from here on out, but I'm not holding my breath for anything on that, so I'll just say that I'm glad he's going out the back door early and leave it at that.

Speaking of Bianca, this looks promising for her character. Slowly she's climbing her way up to growing into a much more competent trainer, that we started to see in her last appearance, then when she started her journey by beating Trip in a tournament. Perhaps she could also be able to battle Ash on more equal ground, as a step-up from their first battle. And of course, again, Trip should be portrayed to be closer to Ash's level as well to balance that. She could potentially be one of the best developed characters of all time if handled right.

Now I'm really excited about this event. It should be epic, or at least decent. And even if this tourney isn't as good as our expectations, there's still no way in the universe it could POSSIBLY be as bad as the Club Battle Tournament. Such a possiblity just doesn't exist.

All I care about is that Bianca is advancing in the tournament.

It's good to see Dewott again, and I hope Burgundy can advance as well, but I don't want to get too greedy. Besides, I think it'll take more than one loss to redeem Iris for some people.

Huh. So the other 2 Simis DO appear, and their trainers have matching names and hairstyles. I'm just glad they (the monkeys) aren't shoved in a triple battling thing like many where predicting. I still hope they each have an episode sort of focused on them in the future... ;_;

Love that all the three of the monkey evos are appearing.

I'm actually hoping that both Cilan and Iris get eliminated early on to be honest. Cilan has gotten a lot of show time already as of late in my opinion.

Why ? Because Steven character design suck's & Sawk is a uncool pokemon in my Book !
That Sesmitoad trainer's Character design is awesome ! I hope he become one of the main rival !
If Ash gonna lose then I want Ash to lose to that Green hair guy who latter face the Sesmitoad trainer in Final !
One thing is Sudden ,The Green hair guy gonna play a huge role in both Donamite and future episode.
I'm disappointed that his patner Pokemon turn out to be a Throh !
Why can't he have more of a intimidating pokemon ?
Anyway, If a Trainer has to use one pokemon in the whole tournament Then What other pokemon Ash has in unova that is good enough to win the whole Donamite ?
Let's face it, Ash doesn't have a pokemon that good enough to win a whole tournament for Him , Not even Pikachu !

I got the actual Pokemon Fan those pictures were taken from from. Here's some of the things that you guys maybe couldn't make out in those blurry snapshots posted earlier in the thread:

- The article confirms that the Donamite will be a four-parter.

- The 16 contestants are:
Satoshi and Zurug - Zurug is seen using Leer.
Shooty and Roubushin - Shooty's Dotekkotsu has evolved and learned Bulk Up.
Kenyan and Dageki - Kenyan's Fighting-Type pokemon has learned Karate Chop.
Edmond (エドモンド) and Gamageroge - His Gamageroge uses its Ability "Swift Swim" to increase its speed.
Flora (フローラ) and Gothemelle - Gothemelle can use Psyshock.
Dent and Yanapp - Dent will do his "Tasting Time" during this tournament as well.
Bel and Emboar - Bel's Charbu has evolved!
Cabernet and Futachimaru - Cabernet will also be doing a "Tasting Time" during this tournament.
Langley and Kirikizan - Langley's pokemon has learned "Metal Sound."
Akkey (アッキー) and Yanakkey - Yanakkey can use Giga Impact.
Iris and Doryuuzu - Doryuuzu will use Metal Claw in this tournament.
Bakkey (バッキー) and Hiyakkey - She's Akkey's and Chakkey's sister. Her Hiyakkey can use Low Kick.
Chakkey (チャッキー) and Baokkey - Akkey, Bakkey, and Chakkey are famous siblings.
Grace (グレース) and Crimgan - Crimgan can use Dragon Claw.
Domon (ドモン) and Kojondo - Kojondo flails its whip-like arms about when it uses Pound attack.
Masaomi (マサオミ) and Nageki - His strength has been recognized by Don George himself. His Nageki can use Bulk Up.

- Six of the battles will be:
Yanakkey vs. Zurug - Yanakkey is able to use Low Kick even though it's not a Fighting-Type pokemon. Zurug will fight back with a new technique.
Nageki vs. Kojondo - This will be a battle of strength and speed! Nageki will use Seismic Toss on Kojondo at some point.
Yannap vs. Gothemelle - This will be a battle of speed between two small pokemon. How will Dent and Yanapp deal with Gothemelle's Double Slap and Psyshock attacks? At one point in the battle, Yanapp's eyes will start to glow after being hit with one of Gothemelle's attacks.
Gamageroge vs. Dageki - Dageki is in a real jam after Gamageroge's "Swift Swim" Ability kicks in! Can Dageki decide the match with continuous Close Combat?
Futachimaru vs. Doryuuzu - Futachimaru is able to use its hard hotachi to defend itself against Doryuuzu's attacks. In addition, Doryuuzu is weak against Futachimaru's Water-Type attacks!
Roubushin vs. Emboar - Roubushin can use its giant beams both offensively and defensively. At one point in the battle, Emboar is trapped by Roubushin's Rock Tomb attack.



Also, where are you guys seeing Cabernet's pokemon evolving? Because I don't see it.

Um...I've taken a look at the screenshot of Excadrill fury-swiping Dewott again. Please tell me that Dewott's eyes haven't gone swirly in that shot...it's so hard to tell.

Nope, its eyes are just closed.

Akkey, Bakkey, and Chakkey are famous siblings.

I hope at the very least there's some interaction with Cilan that would suggest he's heard of them - it kinda ruins the Striaton Gym's thing to have a parallel set of sisters with the evolved form.

Considering the huge number of fighting types, I will be very annoyed if Iris does well with Excadrill, beating a Dewott, okay - but if it goes further than that it will be just as cheap as her win in the first Don Battle. Ash is really due for a win, though equally I want to see Bianca do well to continue to show her improvements. I hope they pick up on how Trip just left after losing the first time, and this time have Ash convince him to stay around (perhaps by challenging him on the sideline - if Ash wins Trip stays to watch?) - I think they will again avoid a showdown between Ash and Trip in the actual competition, but they haven't had a battle in a while so it'd be annoying for another chance to be missed. Burgundy getting a win would be good, as well as some greater measure of her improvement as a connoisseur (becoming B class perhaps?).

So, Is he's the one who will Dominate the Donamite ?
If he's really good then Ash obviously Battling him in some point in the Tournament.
I wonder, Is it possible that this guy gonna become Ash's mentor like how Zoey was Dawn's Mentor

A four part tournament? Meh. As long as it doesn't drag on like the Don Battle one did in the summer. I am excited to see the rivals return, though! I hope Bel does well in this competition and will concentrate on battling more than chasing a Pokemon around....

I know it's a bit much, but I'd love them to do their tasting time together again in some way. Or, at least that they would taste and their tastes would have their wires crossed in some sort of difference.

After the Club Battle finished, you could tell that Burgundy had grown to like Cilan a bit, so I think it'll be interesting to see them meeting again and I'd love it they did a Connoisseur-Off in this episode or in some episode in the Donamite.

there are other trainer who also were a fall guy at the beginning such as Berry, Kenny and Ursala.
Plus, If you saying that Bianca is the only one who lose all her battle then you are wrong because Cabernet also lose all her battle as well.
Bianca need Development but it doesn't mean they have to give a whole tournament for her.
They simply need to make a episode about Bianca's battling style.
Bianca is a rush battler who keep pounding her oppornate with one attack after another without following any tactic.
No wonder she lost all her battle.
So a episode where Bianca learn to slow down & learn to use tactic , That What she need.
The main purpose of Donamite shouldn't be giving Bianca some attention.
The main purpose of Donamite should be ''Making the anime more Sporty'', ''Spice up the competition'' , ''Introduce new rival'' & '' Giving us 4 episode of action pact Battle''
I won't mind Ash lose's as long as he lose's to Masaomi in final.
I was hoping scraggy to learn how to use Ice punch but it seem Scraggy gonna learn ''Focus Blast''.
Another Fighting type move.
I wish scraggy could learn how to use Blaze Kick.
''High Jump kick'' may be powerful but scraggy has to jump high in order to use it . Plus any kick as can be as powerful as ''High Jump Kick'' if a pokemon jump high to lunch the kick.
While ''Low Kick'' hit a pokemon lower part.
Shesssssss, Stupid Gen-5 movepool , Couldn't they give Scraggy a normal Kick attack.

And I am still disappointed with the writers for COMPLETELY RUINING Kenny in GF but let's not get carried away.

One attack? ONE attack? Let me explain it then.

Her 1st battle with Ash: She used all four moves that Chaoboo knew. She lost, yes. But not because of "one attack" thingy.
Unfortunately, Minccino was not an optimum choice against Kenyan's Zebstrika since Zeb was way too strong, that's why it resulted in her loss.
We all saw her battle against Elesa, it wasn't the best thing but she did a good job, especially with Chaoboo.

And as far as slowing down is concerned, that's why she is "unique" and a significant part of her personality.

The main purpose of Donamite should be ''Making the anime more Sporty'', ''Spice up the competition'' , ''Introduce new rival'' & '' Giving us 4 episode of action pact Battle''

Believe me, there will be some action for sure. New challangers are fine but no need for more rivals.

No, it's okay to talk about the Donamite here, even though this is just the first episode preview thread, but what we don't want is for the thread to turn into a general debate about specific characters, since the arguments tend to depart from just their appearance in the Donamite to debate the character's preious appearances in the entire show. Those debates belong in the Pokémon League thread for that character.
