The In-Game Team Advice Thread

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

Uhhh... I am not trying to be critical, but keep these things in mind:

1. Ground does not resist Flying.
2. Swords Dance is not a Dragon-type move. Additionally, Swords Dance and Belly Drum only boost Attack.

I suggest:
-Hidden Power [Flying]
-Earthquake
-Belly Drum
-Substitute / Flamethrower

This set gives you all kinds of options, and can be tweaked to suit anyone's style.
No offence.

Yea about the ground resisting flying, I was drunk. No seriously I was, I said it a few posts before... :p But I was pretty sure sword dance was dragon type... o.0

Anyway if he takes substitute he will have a Charizard with no flame type move... not sure if it is ideal provided he doesn't have any other flame types in the team...

Not judging you because you were drunk and posting, just telling you what is true. Charizard may not know any Fire-type moves if it learns Substitute, but that is the set that most people used in 3rd Gen for PvP, and, as I said, it can be tweaked.

Just got to Canalave Gym. What should my sixth party member be? I honestly can't decide, but I don't want another Mamoswine, since I've used it in every single playthrough of every game after Platinum (bar B/W). Also, should I change any of my moves? I'm going to replace Endeavor with Brave Bird and Mega Drain with Giga Drain for sure.

You have to tell me how your Infernape learned Close Combat before Lv. 41. For it I would Recommend Rock Slide or ThunderPunch to cover its weaknesses.
Infernape with Expert Belt
-Flare Blitz
-Close Combat
-ThunderPunch
-Swords Dance

Staraptor
-Fly/Brave Bird
-Close Combat
-Double Edge
-U-turn

Gastrodon
-Surf
-Earth Power
-Ice Beam/Sludge Bomb
-Recover

Bronzong
-Gyro Ball
-Eathquake
-Hypnosis
-Zen Headbutt

Tangrowth
-Swords Dance
-Power Whip
-Earthquake
-Sleep Powder

Just my thoughts. If you see moves you don't like, tell me.

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

I'm doing a playthrough of Ruby right now, and I just got the second badge. Could anyone look at the projected final team and give a few tips?

Blaziken

- Lax nature
- Blaze
- Bulk Up, Brick Break, Flamethrower/Blaze Kick, Aerial Ace

Breloom

- Brave nature
- Effect Spore
- Mach Punch, Spore, Sky Uppercut, Headbutt/Sludge Bomb

Manectric

- Gentle nature
- Static
- Rain Dance, Thunder, Thunderbolt, Bite

Walrein

- ? (haven't caught a Spheal yet)
- Thick Fat
- Ice Beam, Surf, Body Slam, Water Pulse

Altaria

- Modest nature
- Natural Cure
- Perish Song, Dragon Dance, Dragon Claw, Fly

I'm currently stuck on who the final team member should be. Suggestions are welcome.

1. Blazekin looks okay
2. Teach Breloom a Grass type attack, replacing Headbutt/Sludge Bomb
3. Not sure on Manetric, you don't really need both Electric moves. Maybe replace Thunderbolt with Thunderwave.
4. I would highly suggest replacing Water Pulse (or Body Slam) with Earthquake. You lack a Ground type move and it would cover two of Walrein's weaknesses
5. Altaria looks pretty good, but I think that Iron Tail or Steel Wing would be more useful than Perish Song because it could help cover the ice weakness and get more use out of Dragon Dance (since Dragon Claw is special, not physical in gen 3)
6. As for your last Pokemon, I would suggest a Ghost or Psychic type. Gardevoir and Dusclops would both do well and either one would be good with both Psychic and Shadow Ball.

My Platinum Team

Infernape Lv 38 (Blaze) Flamethrower/Close Combat/Drain Punch/Sunny Day

Staraptor Lv 39 (Intimidate) Fly/Close Combat/Return/Endeavor

Gastrodon Lv 38 (Sticky Hold) Surf/Mud Bomb/Body Slam/Hidden Power

I would suggest maybe Luxray, having Thunder Fang, Iron Tail, Crunch and a 4th move, possibly Charge. Also, I would suggest adding an ice type move to the team, maybe teach Gastrodon Ice Beam.

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

Thanks, @The_Doctor;!

Here's a Grass type team I'm using to take on the Elite Four in Black 2. All of them are at level 78 and were infected with PokeRus. Suggestions?

1.) Petulia the Lilligant [In-game trade]

- Timid (Mischievous)
- Holding DeepSeaTooth
- Quiver Dance, Petal Dance, Toxic, Giga Drain

2.) Leafeon

- Adamant (Alert to sounds)
- Holding BrightPowder
- Swords Dance, X-Scissor, Leaf Blade, Bite

3.) Virizion

- Jolly (Alert to sounds)
- Holding Scope Lens
- Swords Dance, Close Combat, X-Scissor, Leaf Blade

4.) Cradily

- Adamant (Capable of taking hits)
- Holding an Expert Belt
- Rock Polish, Seed Bomb, Stone Edge, Earthquake

5.) Ferrothorn

- Bold (Often lost in thought)
- Holding King's Rock
- Shadow Claw, Power, Whip, Iron Defense, Iron Head/Gyro Ball
- I have Iron Head on Ferrothorn right now, but should I replace it with Gyro Ball and give it a Rocky Helmet instead? Iron Head would get an extra flinching boost from the King's Rock, but Rocky Helmet would give extra damage taken along with Iron Barbs.

6.) Serperior (My starter)

- Gentle (Alert to sounds)
- Holding Razor Fang
- Coil, Aqua Tail, Leaf Blade, Dragon Tail

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

@FallenIdol_453;

Rocky Helmet instead of King's Rock. Ferrothorn is really slow so you're not going to make anything flinch anyway. Replace Iron Defense with Toxic. I'd also consider replacing Shadow Claw with Curse, then going with Gyro Ball (which will be more powerful as you use Curse) instead of Iron Head.

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

About to start White 2 and this is my projected team for the end of the main game:

Serperior - Coil, Leaf Blade, Outrage, Aqua Tail/Toxic
Excadrill - Sandstorm, Drill Run, Iron Head, Brick Break
Magnezone - Thunderbolt, Flash Cannon, Signal Beam, Magnet Rise
Braviary - Fly, Giga Impact, Rock Slide, ??? (Maybe Shadow Claw, Toxic, or Bulk Up?)
Chandelure - Energy Ball, Shadow Ball, Flamethrower, Psychic
Starmie - Surf, Ice Beam, Psychic, Confuse Ray/Minimize

This is basically my idea of the team, any suggestions?

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

Hey guys, I'm going to restart Black now that I've settled on my Black 2 team and have been using them for a while, but I'm really struggling with a sixth member. The trouble I'm having is that I only want to use Unova Pokémon. Here's the five Pokémon I've decided on so far...

Serperior
Ability: Overgrow, Nature: Modest / Timid
Moves: Giga Drain, Dragon Pulse, Toxic, Leech Seed

Volcarona
Ability: Flame Body, Nature: Bold / Modest / Timid
Moves: Flamethrower, Bug Buzz, Giga Drain, Quiver Dance

Seismitoad
Ability: Swift Swim, Nature: Modest / Timid
Moves: Surf, Earth Power, Hyper Voice, Sludge Bomb

Carracosta
Ability: Solid Rock, Nature: Adamant / Careful
Moves: Waterfall, Stone Edge, Earthquake, Shell Smash

Archeops
Ability: Defeatist, Nature: Adamant / Jolly
Moves: Stone Edge, Fly, Earthquake, Outrage (maybe U-Turn)

I was thinking about using Eelektross for the sixth member, or maybe Druddigon. Thoughts?

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

Is there any way to check your Dream world Score and/or when you'll get another Diglet occurance?

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

If you go to your profile on the Pokemon Global Link site and click on Dream World, you will see a little picture of a house, and underneath that will be your point total.

Diglett makes an appearance to dig new rows after a certain DW points total. After the default two rows, Diglett will dig a third row at 900 points; a fourth row at 2100 points and a fifth row at 3500 points.

Hope this helps. For the future, though, this kind of question is probably best asked in the Simple Questions / Simple Answers thread.

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

With the Grass challenge medal under my belt, I thought I'd shoot for an all Ice team. Care to give suggestions?

1.) Abomasnow

- ? nature, ? characteristic (Codface is giving me a Snover next Wednesday)
- Snow Warning
- Blizzard, Seed Bomb/Grass Knot, Earthquake, Ice Shard
- Seed Bomb (or Grass Knot) over Wood Hammer, because although Wood Hammer has increased base power, I'm a little afraid of recoil damage.

2.) Mamoswine

- Sassy (Mischievous)
- Snow Cloak
- Ice Fang, Stone Edge, Earthquake, Thrash/Stealth Rock

3.) Vanilluxe

- Gentle (Hates to lose)
- Ice Body
- Weather Ball, Blizzard, Flash Cannon, Acid Armor

4.) Beartic

- Bashful (Strong willed)
- Snow Cloak
- Icicle Crash, Superpower/Brick Break, Shadow Claw, Stone Edge

5.) Lapras [Used during in-game events]

- Docile (Likes to thrash about)
- Shell Armor
- Blizzard, Surf, Perish Song, Body Slam

6.) Glaceon

- Modest (Quick Tempered)
- Snow Cloak
- Blizzard, Shadow Ball, Signal Beam, Toxic

I dunno.
But I'll probably start up my Black 2 again soon, when I get my 3DS XL.

I'm only planning on carrying 4 main team members, and these are it:

-Emboar

-Vaporeon

-Haxorus

-Magnezone

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

I restarted HeartGold, and here's all I have after Violet Gym:

Bayleef Lv 18-Reflect/Synthesis/Razor Leaf/PoisonPowder

I'm keeping Bayleef and will add Lanturn and Espeon to the team. Other than that, who should I add? I don't want to use Arcanine, Mamoswine, or Ampharos again.

I'll need a Flying Pokemon, and a Fire and a Ground would probably be the other two.

For Flying some cool options would be Crobat or Yanmega.

Other than Arcanine the only other options for Fire-types are Magmar, Flareon if you can get a Firestone, and Magcargo if you get lucky with the Primo Egg.

And for Ground-types there is Quagsire who can also function as your Surfer as well as Nidoqueen, Nidoking, and Steelix who have some pretty diverse movepools.

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

Okay, my previous team has officially knocked off all challengers and stayed strong (Black Version for those who didn't see it) so I have developed a Reserves Team consisting of a few of the other Pokemon I mentioned outside my main team. Presenting:

Vicitoria (Hydreigon) with a Hasty nature and Levitate holding Draco Plate
Moves: Fly, Payback, Outrage, Draco Meteor
I don't generally breed for moves so that's why it lacks Dark Pulse.

Ice-T (Kyurem) with a Serious nature and Pressure, holding Icicle Plate for some reason
Moves: Dragon Claw, Glaciate, Focus Blast, Draco Meteor
I keep Glaciate over Blizzard for accuracy and Speed reduction.

Turtleleaf (Tropius) with a Bold nature and Solar Power, holding Sky Plate
Moves: Fly, Air Slash, Earthquake, Energy Ball
Finally found that TM26 and not a moment too soon!

Next, the prodigal one: Shikoyita (Heracross) with a TBA nature and Swarm
Moves: Brick Break, Megahorn, Earthquake, Rock Slide
Brick Break is over Close Combat due to the stat recoil.

Next, MoWer (that means Made of Win, and it's Metagross) with a Hasty nature and Clear Body, holding Iron Plate
Moves: Flash Cannon, Meteor Mash, Hyper Beam, Zen Headbutt
I need a replacement for Hyper Beam on this one.

Lastly, we have Vampiro (Gliscor) with a Careful nature and Hyper Cutter, holding Lax Incense
Moves: Earthquake, Aerial Ace, Acrobatics, Dig Now this one seems pretty much done to me.

This actually almost looks better than the first. Any recommendations?
