CALLISTO

Overview
This is a light-hearted fantasy RP set in an original world. A lot of emphasis is placed on players contributing to the setting. Inspirations are shonen anime such as Dragon Ball Z and HunterxHunter. Also fantasy cartoons, such as Adventure Time. The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack also fit.

The World
The world of Callisto is very different of our own. First of all, it is not a sphere like our own, surrounded by an atmosphere. No, Callisto is a flat, circular plane. On the edges there is a waterfall, eternally pouring water. Those who fall off are never seen again. Further, the sky is actually a shell surrounding the world. It is possible to fly into it. Nobody has managed to break through it.

Further, while roughly 71% of Earth is water covered, Callisto is almost 90%. It is an ocean world, dotted with islands of all shapes and sizes. There are ones covered in grassy hills, where knights in shining armor fight dragons. There are ones that are covered in deserts and host colonies of cyclops. There are artificial ones, iron cylinders jutting from the water, where mad scientist build artificial humans. There are ones that are like small suburbias, where children go home and get on their computers to play forum roleplaying games.

Due to the diversity of the islands, the species and practices are very different. There are humans, of course, which are indeed the dominant race. But there are also hybrids, humans with animal traits. And there are elves, dwarves, and plant people as well.

Finally, Callisto is a magical world. Most people who practice magic are born with it, although there are a rare few who attain it through magical objects or simply intense training or darker methods. Most magicians choose to specialize in a given sort of magic, like pyromancy or creating magic potions, but there are of course exceptions.

1. Solitaire Island: One of the larger islands on Callisto. It's a hub for trading in various goods and services. Recently, a new king has been crowned. He's having a feast while organizing various trade agreements right now. The royal family has collected a great deal of magical items in the vault beneath the palace. However, the key to the vault has been lost. Meanwhile, the local Thieves Guild has been contracted to go in and steal The Gem of the Rotten World from the vault during the ball.
2. Castille: A jungle island. The people there have learned to use music to tame the giant insects that call the island home.
3. Golem Isle: An island covered in red clay, with a single mountain in the center. The residents have learned to form the clay into Golems, magical constructs that can perform labor for humans.
4. Ironside Bay: A great metal platform rising out of the sea. It's home to the makers of some of the finest warships on Callisto.
5. Trial Mountain: A spire, rising over 1500 feet into the sky, like a black needle. At the top, there grows a tree, the fruit of which can grant the eater unmatched strength. However, the catacombs that lead up to the summit are home to the ghosts of those who have tried and failed to scale it. And constant thunderstorms make flying to the top nearly impossible.
6. Runa: An island covered in grassy hills. It's named for the lone city on it, Runa. It's made of white marble, and home to an academy where magicians can perfect their craft.
7. Sirrisu Isle: A volcanic isle. At the foot of the volcano there lies many villages, that harvest bountiful crops from the fertile soil. The monks near the peak of the volcano practice a martial art that allows them to strike with fiery punches. It's said that this martial art, called the Searing Flame Fist, was taught to mankind by dragons.
8. Mesr Island: A desert island, with an oasis at the center. A prosperous city has sprung up here. Royalty tends to bury themselves in pyramids. Most of the locals are Scorpion People, a race of humans that are born with scorpion-like traits. Some of them have extra arms, while others have stinger tails.
9. Bloodmoon Isle: An island named for the strange red clouds, which make the moon sometimes appear red. A college for shapeshifters can be found here.
(Note: These are only the islands revealed so far. There are many more throughout Callisto just waiting to be found.)

-Keep things PG-13.
-Feel free to go crazy with sign-ups. Make your own island, where your character learned a cool martial art. I'll probably have some questions so the characters can go visit it.

Sign-Ups
Name: Everyone has a name. However, due to Callisto's diversity, that name might be very odd.
Age: Can be really any age. Humans tend to live a bit longer on Callisto.
Gender: Male, female, androgynous, hermaphrodite, tentacle monster, etc.
Homeland: What island does your character come from? Feel free to use one of the ones already listed, or create your own.

Appearance: What's your character look like?

Backstory:No length requirement, but I'm gonna need an explanation of how your character got their abilities. Also, we're probably gonna start out on Solitaire Island, at King Solitaire's ball, so I'd suggest having some reason for your character to be there. If you don't wish to reveal your character's backstory, feel free to PM it to me.

Ability: This is your character's main power. It's something only your character can do, or at the very least, something only a small group of people are capable of. Is your character part of a clan of samurai who can cut through anything? Or are they an abnormally powerful prototype of a line of androids? Or are they the only mage that raises undead using souls bound to their mother's still-beating heart? It can even be an object, like maybe your character wields a magical axe passed down through her family.

Talents: These are other abilities or resources your character might have. Pick up to 3.

Name: Akkadia
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Homeland: Castille

Appearance: Akkadia is a young woman of unusual height, at about six feet tall. She wears silk robes that cover most of her body, typically leaving only her head and arms exposed. This might be a problem, except she typically rides on a giant tarantula named Celice. Her skin is a sienna shade, and she has very dark brown eyes. Her black hair is typically kept in a braid.

Backstory: Akkadia was born to a long line of charmers. Her father was a charmer before her, and before him her grandmother, and before her, her great-grandmother. The flute she plays was carved from the chitin of an Akkadian Titan Beetle, and has been in her family for many generations. She was trained from birth to play the flute, and was invited to play at King Solitaire's ball while the ambassador from her island negotiates trade agreements.

Ability: Akkadia is a charmer, a person capable of using music to control animals. Her greatest accomplishment has been taming her pet Akkadian Tarantula, Celise. Akkadian Tarantulas are colossal spiders. An adult like Celise is typically the size of a large car. They have very long, powerful legs, roughly eight feet in length each. And they have huge mouths. The stingers can cause paralysis, and they've been known to swallow large cats whole. Celise is a lovely specimen of her species, with bright blue hair covering her body. She's quite tame, and Akkadia typically rides her.

Talents:
-Akkadia can also breed bugs, called scissor beetles. They're named that because their jaws are like scissors. They've been known to cause serious wounds. Akkadia can throw jars of them.
-Akkadia's flute playing can affect most any living creature. Her melody can pacify raging beasts, and it can make humans fall asleep if they're not actively trying to resist the affect.
-Finally, Akkadia's robes are made of spider silk. Though lightweight, they're very durable, able to drastically reduce the damage from many blows.


Name: Pierrot
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Homeland: Solitaire Island

Appearance: Pierrot is technically a thief. However, he acts as a jester to fool his way into the homes of nobles and steal their goods. He certainly looks the part. He's got red hair that shoots out in wild directions, and tends to wear white makeup covering his face, with red lipstick and a diamond on his left cheek. He wears loud clothing, typically a yellow and red striped shirt, with purple overalls.

Backstory: Pierrot was an urchin on the streets of Solitaire Island. One day, a magician put on a show for free. He was enthralled with the man's tricks. He joined the Thieves Guild to earn money to learn magic at the age of 14. Five years later, he completed his apprenticeship under the very magician that inspired him. Now he's one of the top thieves in the guild, and has been sent on the mission to steal the Gem of the Rotten World.

Ability: Pierrot is a magician, and he specializes in fog. He can cause fog to emanate from his body. Within a few seconds, he can cover an 100-foot area in a thick mist. It's very difficult to see within this mist. However, Pierrot can actually see better within this area. He can "feel" objects within his fog, arguably achieving better vision than most people in clear weather.

Talents:
-Pierrot can also give physical form to his fog. It takes him a few seconds to make an object. While touching it directly, it's typically as hard and solid as iron. So he can use it to make swords and the like. When he's not touching it, a good punch will make an object disipate. He can make these constructs fairly detailed, enough so that he can make clones of himself to fool enemies.
-Pierrot can also teleport himself. He can do so by swapping his body with an equal amount of fog, or a construct of similar size to himself.
-Finally, Pierrot is very sneaky. He can move almost silently.

Name: Dreanna
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Homeland: Slemper Island: A sleepy little island where there is a small village of dream walkers. It’s mostly sand and palm trees and is considered very tropical. It has a close link to the dream realm and is one of the easiest places to access it.
Appearance: Dreanna is of average height and weight. She has short green hair and green eyes. She wears a brown robe and brown boots. She also has a small satchel that she uses to hold her things. She also carries around a purple pillow.

Backstory: Dreanna was born on Slemper Island to a single mother, who she is still rather close to. She was trained in the art of dream walking and leaned how to do it rather fast. She became obsessed with seeing if she could make things from the dream realm appear in the real world. After working on the topic for a few years she finally succeed at summoning a dream beast. After a few years she decided to move to Solitaire Island and started helping the thieves with her dream walking skills. She wishes to find some treasure to bring back home with her and make her family rich. Dreanna is going to the ball as a guest to keep an eye on the guards as the thieves try to steal stuff.

Ability: Dreanna’s ability is being able to summon her dream beast, which a creature that has shown up in her dreams. It can change its shape at times, but its default forum is a yellow griffon with brown legs and white wings and head. It is big enough for a few people to ride on, and has a breath attack. It can be summoned whenever Dreanna is awake but will disappear if Dreanna goes to sleep or is knocked out. It speaks in a different language but Dreanna can understand it just fine. The dream beast will fight for Dreanna or do what ever she commands. It does have a mind of its own, and is named Sinc.

Talents:
Dream waking:Dreanna can travel into other people’s dreams, and can take other people with her.
Sleep spells: Dreanna can cast a spell that can easily put other people to sleep, and it is a very hard spell to resist. It takes the form of a Projectile, that she has to toss and takes a while to form.
Nightmare illusion: She can sometimes create an image of someone’s nightmare, this however takes a lot of time and can be seen though or interrupted if the person has a strong will.

Name: Misha
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Homeland: Mesr Island

Appearance: Misha fits the picture of an Egyptian princess, with short black hair woven with gold beads and thick black makeup around her eyes. She has a dark tan from living in the desert for her entire life. She is a Scorpion Person, and has a stinger tail that pokes out from under thin desert veil clothing. These veils are also useful when she dances.

Backstory: Misha has always had a weakness for music. She learned how to dance at a very young age, although she only discovered later that she was a mythical Sand Dancer. She once created a Sand Cat with her ability, and he is now her closest companion. His name is Osiris. She works in the pharaoh's courts as a dancer, entertaining His Majesty and any visitors he might have. She came to King Solitaire's ball in hopes of entertaining the king with her abilities.

Ability: As a Sand Dancer, Misha's dancing can control sand and earth, either using it as a weapon or shaping it into a living thing. This is much more affective when she is dancing to music, and as such, she is best when someone else plays music for her in a form of teamwork. Her power occasionally activates accidentally when she hears music she isn't prepared for.

Talents:
Stinging- Misha's tail has potent poison and she can move it like a third arm.
Sand Weapons- Misha can create weapons out of sand or earth and use them, although they don't last long after leaving her hands.
Hypnotism- Misha's dancing, if she so chooses, can become slow and hypnotic. This takes a lot of effort and doesn't work if the target has a strong will.
 
@Joltik, one thing I almost forgot: Dreana's sleep spell seems a bit OP. Like, from the description, it sounds like she just casts it and the person falls asleep. Maybe it takes the form of a projectile that can be dodged? Also, do you have any preference for where on the map her island is? I'll probably update it every 3 or 4 islands, since adding them every time is a bit of a pain.

A Projectile is fine, I'll also have it so that it takes a little bit to make the projectile. And you're welcome to place the island wherever you like.
 
Man, it's been a while since I've been around. Here's hoping I'm still up to snuff.

Name: Storm Damos
Age: 24
Gender:Male

Homeland: Lyadon Isle. Long ago necromancers ruled this island and cursed the ground where holy beings cannot walk, to prevent any pesky paladins, priest, exorcists, or any likewise holy warriors from stopping them. Eventually they lost control of their armies who devoured their souls for power and revenge. Now Lyadon isle is a somewhat peaceful island inhabited by numerous undead and several humans who don't mind living with people whose bits may occasionally fall off.

Appearance:
Storm is broad shouldered and tops out at 6'8. His hair is ginger and sticks up in the front. He is moderately tanned and has blue-eyes. He wears plate armor made of pitch metal with golden trim, as well as a crimson cloak. Under the cloak is a massive broadsword with the blade made of a similar pitch metal as his armor, with a golden hilt. He is currently alive.

Backstory:
Storm was trained on Lyadon Isle as a Death Knight. Due to the fact that paladins, exorcists, etc. can't step on the island, they needed a method to deal with some of the more unsavory inhabitants. They often travel across the world to deal with various problems with undead. Training as a Death Knight is dangerous and risky due to the fact that at the end of training when a knight takes their final tests, they must absorb the soul of one of the original necromancers that ruled over the isle to have the power over life and death to do their duties. The possible side effects of failing is usually insanity, possession, the destruction of your immortal soul, death, and undeath. Fortunately Storm passed and was ordered to head to Solitaire Isle to represent his order at the ball and investigate an unpleasant zombie rumor.

Ability: As a Death Knight, Storm is infused with necrotic energies. This grants him an immunity to similar magic and makes possession in general a bad idea. It also enables him to communicate with spirits or send their souls to oblivion.

Talents:

  • The Pitch Blade: Storms's sword has the ability to cut immaterial objects as well as the physical, like the bond that enables a necromancer to control a body, or to slice ghost in two.
  • Knight Training: In addition to instruction of the esoteric, Storm has had an education in combat training and excels in close combat.
  • Is excellent at sewing. Whether fixing a hole in a shirt or sewing somebodies arm back onto their body, he can do it.

Name: Tamir
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Homeland: Devil's Drop - An island that looks rather small, until you look up. A thin rock formation sprouts from the middle of the small island, which once at about 300 feet, expands into vast crevasses and sharp overhangs. Dark crimson stalactites crest under the mysticly infused cliffs, hanging like massive claws. The stone is the same crimson color. A towering mountain sprouts from one of the larger cliffs, an impending challenge that only few have overcome. This mysterious island is home to many daredevils and brave souls who dare jump from the highest of these majestic crests.

Appearance: Tamir has a rather tall, lean frame that ripples with muscles that have been toughened over the years of climbing Devil's Drop and the mountain. His skin is a deep tan, after being in the sun for so long, and his hair is a crest of mixed blonde-brunette hair. His eyes are a stunning turquoise, that flare at the sound of adventure. He wears nothing on his rather toned abs and chest, a forced habit of living in Doom's Drop. He wears long, navy blue shorts with lime green accents, along with durable yet flexible gray shoes. His shirt, a silvery color, hangs by his hip on a bronze ring. His olive green mountain pack contains a pickaxe, coils of strong rope, a chisel, and a water bottle.

Backstory: Tamir grew up in the extreme heights of Devil's Drop. He had started diving from the cliffs into the water at age eight, a tradition for the boys on the island. He had also developed a love for rock climbing, so he tried to climb the mountain located on Devil's Drop. Acquiring his abilities helped him succeed many times at this task, and made his house on the side of the summit. Tamir then proceeded teaching the tradition to younger boys at age twelve, and begun to input a new aspect into the ancient rites; one must make it half-way up the mountain before turning fourteen; of course, it was a breeze for him. Mountain life on the Devil's Drop continued the way it always had, until he turned fourteen. He had to journey to Solitaire Island by sea, so he could bring back an important relic that his island was lacking for more cultural traditions. Usually, the relic was sold in many stores, but it appeared that there was none in sight. Seeing there was no relics available, he stayed one more night in Solitaire Island for one last search.. but, instead something else had caught his attention. A ball.. A party.

Ability: Tamir's ability is quite simple, actually. His ability not only allows him to jump extremely high, but also allows him to stick to walls like a gecko. This is especially useful, because he doesn't risk the chance of going off balance and falling off the rocky hold he might cling to. However, this means he has an extremely hard time staying on the ground.

Talents: Tamir has mastered the ability to mimic almost every voice he can hear. He can also cling to ceilings due to his gecko-like ability. Also, not only is his skin resisted to fire, under very close microscopic inspection his skin is like that of shark scales; smooth one way, sandpaper rough the other way.

The character's rad as hell. Accepted. And most abilities bring more than one thing the character can do to the table. That, and it looks like your second talent would be part of your ability. Feel free to add another two talents. Like, make it so he's really strong and can punch holes in rocks! And his skin can't be set on fire! That'd be really radical!

Name: Nix Frost
Age: Unknown, appears to be 18
Gender: Female…probably.
Homeland: Siticra Island, a frigid island surrounded by a thick sea of ice. Frequent blizzards block out the sun for most of the year. Because of this, travel to or from the island is nearly impossible. Frozen mountain ranges and deep canyons line the landscape, and several villages dot the mountain sides. Its inhabitants are known for their pale skin, luminescent yellow eyes, and their cold-related names. However, there's more to them than lightbulb irises and punny names, something...chilling.

Appearance: Nix is 5’6” and of ever-so-slightly above-average weight, but you wouldn't notice it. Her wavy blue hair hangs loose and reaches the middle of her back. Like most Siticra natives, she has extremely pale skin and her eyes glow yellow. She wears asymmetrical, ivory armor that's thicker and more elaborate on her right side and incorporates a cyan cape. She wears a perpetual, eerily serene smile across her face, no matter the situation.

Backstory: Nix's personal history is a complete enigma. The few outside of Siticra Island who have met her believe that she's hiding some sort of dark secret.

Ability: Chilling foes to the bone! Setting them alight! That's the power of a thermomancer! While certainly more adept at turning down the heat, Nix is capable of raising it, too! Unfortunately for her, living beings are resistant to her powers--at least for now--but hurling fireballs or crafting daggers of ice are definitely within her power right now!

Talents:
-Nix can fashion weaponry out of ice, as mentioned previously. This mostly amounts to things like swords, axes, and clubs.
-She can also generate small blasts of wind from her palms for launching projectiles she creates with her thermal powers.
-Lastly, she's built up a resistance to extreme temperatures.
 
Name: Emeraude
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Homeland: Dragokalaka Island

The island is quite large with many different animals and creatures, however the only ones that truly speak are the dragonkin who inhabit the island. The main language is dragonkin, and if one does not know it, then they must find a translator on the island that knows the common language. The island is mostly jungle, however near the western part is a part that is desert. The northern area has a large mountain that is covered in snow, and the snow exists further down and away from its base as well. In the east is another large mountain, however this is more pure rocky than anything. Caves can also be found in the rock formations strewn along the island. Many plants native to all kinds of places grow on the island in their respective terrains. Depending on where on the island one goes, the position of a stripe and length of the dragonkin can change, as well as their accent. Lastly one should be careful on the eastern mountain as its edge is the end of the world. Literally you fall of then you fall off of the world.

Appearance: Emeraude is tall with slightly tan skin. He has long green hair that is usually in a braid and reaches to his knees, his bangs are always on the right and are a golden yellow, reaching to his chin. His eyes are gold and seem to glow when his emotions are running high or he is using his abilities. He has four claw like marks on his left cheek. They always seem as though they are freshly cut. He has a build of pure muscle, and is very fit. He carries a sword created for his size. His back is covered with scars.

Backstory: Emeraude comes from Dragokalaka Island, where he grew up as a guardian to one of the higher borns of his species. This was until recently when she discovered him hiding a secret from her and thus marked him. After that he left his homeland to explore.

Dragonkin species explanation: Dragonkin were originally created by some humans eating the hearts of dragons, and thus their children developed into the species Dragonkin. Dragonkin always have red, blue, or green hair, with a silver or gold stripe of bangs. They have wings and tails of a dragon, the colors matching their hair. Likewise their eyes generally match their hair as well, however they can deviate. Those with gold or silver eyes are considered higher than most, gold being the color of the royal family. They have a hierarchy with their hair colors. The highest is those that have green hair with a gold stripe. The royal family is amongst these. Below them is those with blue hair and a gold stripe, and then red hair and gold stripe, the last being rare. After that is those with blue hair and a silver stripe, and then the lowest is red hair with a silver stripe. For some reason no one with green hair has had a silver stripe. Cutting off their stripe is a sign of going rogue. Also very few with emerald hair even remain.

They have multiple abilities. For starters they can make their wings and tails disappear to look more human. Some form the ability to use dragon fire the color of their hair, and all have the innate ability to become dragons. However to become a dragon certain conditions must be fulfilled. The secret to this has been lost. Rumor has it that there is another dragon form for them, however no one is known to have obtained it. They also have an ability to mark each other which is claw marks that are always fresh looking. These can be healed by the one who did them, and are currently known only to be healed by them. They are considered a mark of shame and usually given by higher borns.

While there is a royal family, there are others that rule sections of the island similar to lords in a sense. And their appearances can differ depending on the section of island due to it having a north and south and so on of its own. the only true differences though are accents, and the length of their stripes as the stripes grow to certain lengths naturally, though some may choose to make them short. Also they are more physically capable than the average human, and live much longer as well, the oldest recorded dragonkin reaching 200. They also have their own language and are very disconnected with the outside world. There are those that speak common amongst them, and those that don't know a word of it.

Their dragon form is not the same power level as a true dragon, and is much weaker. They can only use fire in the form if they have the ability to use dragon fire, however the fire itself is much much weaker than true dragon's fire.

Ability: Emeraude has the ability of dragon fire, and has somehow unlocked his dragon form. He also is quite agile.. Of course having wings he can fly.

Talents: Emeraude is quite intelligent and can pick up on learning other languages easily. He is fluent in dragonkin, common, and surprisingly old tongue.

He is adept at swordplay.

Emeraude has the ability to break seals placed on humans or creatures or such through a kiss on the lips.
