Game Corner?

Because the stupid EU stops Nintendo having the game corner (really, we can't keep the roulette? I understand the slot machines but the ROULETTE?), I'm hoping that either we can buy coins or use a PGL minigame-type thing. No voltorb flips. No minesweeper stuff, seriously. Why not something nicer like some kind of Poke-Checkers? Or a Bomberman-like minigame? That'd be neat.

Altenratively, move all the corner prizes elsewhere and turn it into a big boutique for clothing like the one in Lumiose.

The PEGI's hard to predict (especially when you're a Japanese game developer). I interpret the balloon popping game as evidence Game Freak have an appetite for RNG-heavy games, and the guaranteed prizes in that game might be enough to bypass the PEGI's interpretation of gambling.

Of course, the Battle Arcade from PtHGSS was localised from Roulette, so the issue may be with real-life casino games rather than something-for-nothing.

Personally I adored the slots and roulette, but the prizes could stand be less about TMs and more about vanity stuff and maybe shiny Pokémon (since both are RNG-based).

Hm. Maybe they could get around the rules if they get rid of the requirement to spend coins? Then even if it's a slot machine, it's something-for-nothing.

Hey, whoa, you trying to insult Minesweeper or sumthin? If you gonna mess with minesweeper, you're gonna have to get through me first!~

But seriously, I really wouldn't mind if they replaced Voltorb Flip with minesweeper though. I actually like playing minesweeper.

Minesweeper is too confusing for me, and for a lot of other people. It just feels like dumb luck, only more frustrating compared to the dumb luck of the PGL games.
(on that note, since you have to pay Poke Miles to play those games shouldn't that be counted as gambling?)

Trust me man, minesweeper is MUCH less reliant on luck than Voltorb Flip. In fact, there's usually only 1-3 times that luck has anything to do with it, and about 35% of even the "Hard" level games DON'T have to do with luck.
It's just that you have to learn how to play it, and I'll admit that could be a little difficult. But once you get the hang of it, it's a piece of cake.

Who has time to learn how to play it? Just let me buy the coins instead.

I didn't say they WOULDN'T let you buy the coins... I was just saying that Minesweeper is a better game to put in the game corner than Voltorb flip.
And I also want to be able to buy the coins as well...

I never really bothered with Game Corners, I can see them keeping the building but maybe it's like HGSS where you talk to the machines and it might give a coin. Maybe some other games put in there.

I think the remake gimmick is gonna be found where the Game Corner once was, similar to the Pokéathlon Dome in HGSS. Especially since it seems like Mauville City is supposed to be the biggest city in Hoenn, this would be the perfect way to add more NPCs to the place.

It will be changed to voltorb flip again. Thats what they did in hg/ss since gambling was outlawed in the uk right?
If memory serves me correctly, the European Union put in strict limitations on the placement of gambling in material intended for younger audiences. Or something like that.

So for that reason, I can see Voltorb Flip returning (Voltorb is in the Hoenn Pokédex too, so it fits).

I hope there's more than one game to choose from. A few non-casino related mini games would be nice, if Nintendo isn't going to go against Europe's policies.

On a separate but similar note, I really hope they bring back betting Battle Points from the Battle Frontier. Made grinding BP faster (and a little more exhilarating, as you could always lose) and it'd be a shame to lose the feature because of gambling connotations.

Oh, oh! What if they retool the Pokemon-Amie minigames to earn coins? IDK how they'd do it but hey, it'd be something! I'm a pro at head it now!

The problem is that in 2008 a new regulation of the EU restricted a lot the presence of gambling in the games. Because the Game Corner featured gambling, they have top be removed from the Europeam version of Platinum at the last minute because the game will be rating +12 automatically. In HGSS the Game Corner were in Japan version (because the games was already developed and Japan doesn't have problems with this) like every other version had the Coin Flip in his place to avade the Europeam case again. In Black and White the game corner was removed entirely.

The Voltorb Flip (or anything similar) won't return. Simply any references to coin willbe removed entirely and the house that used to held that in R/S/E will be for something else.

Actually, the EU has many restriction that the European versions of X and Y had a rating of +7, and not +3 like the rest of the games.

Okay, we all know we only wanted to buy the coins for TMs--unlike the Team Rocket owned Game Corners, there were no Pokemon sold.

So why don't we stop deluding ourselves into thinking we want coins. What we want are the items. Why don't we just use a more common currency that could be applied elsewhere after we buy the TMs and dolls--namely Pokemiles.

Now I think about it, wouldn't those EU regulations basically prevent a proper re-remake of RBGY now? *rubs hands together* finally, something to irritate European genwunners....

Why would it prevent that? They can just remove the Game Corner/replace it with something else, just like they can in ORAS. But I still think that ORAS is a "proper" remake of RS, even if that happens...

Or maybe they'd remove the building completely from Mauville and a foundation is put in it's place? I don't know. Have you thought of that possibility? I like the slots, but since the removal of the game corner, maybe that could happen to the Hoenn remakes.
