Media previews of SM

It also appears Ilima is the only Captain on Melemele, so I don't think they know what they're talking about.

I'd really say that the emblems were a miss opportunity really. I mean it could have been a good way to tell what island everybody was from. Four major islands, four leaves...that sort of thing.

But if there are really 7 trials per regon and Ilima is the only one on Melemele...that means it's split into 1, 2, 2, 2.

Well, if there are really only 7, then it would be 1,3,2,1. We know Akala to have at least 3.

I think that does seem likely, although I still feel that 1-3-3 is viable, with the final island being the location of some super-special finale trial which differs a bit from the others. There's just... I mean, the third island just looks too busy to feature only two trials, whereas the fourth island looks markedly different in terms of geography and civilization. Almost as if it's sacred somehow, and has been left relatively untouched.

The island may look sacred, but that doesn't stop Sina and Dexio from being tourists and using it as a vacation attraction hahaha

If there's really 7 trials per island, and that there are 3 types of the trials, I imagine it'll be like this:
- 3 trials from each captain
- 3 totem Pokemon fights
- 1 Kahuna fight
which totals seven.

Also, I think Sophocles will be in the MeleMele island. He's the owner of the Plaza after all, and they will give us access to that place early on, won't they?

I now think this is the case, since it would also kinda match the source that said 3 trials per island, and I also realized that Hala calls his battle a Grand Trial.
This would give us 3 Captains + 1 Kahuna per island, which equals 16 type specialists.
Since we know Lillie gives you one of the Z-Crystals via the previews, then the other one can be left for the Evil Team or Champion, for example.
Also, that leaves two types for possibly Team Skull and Aether Foundation, or maybe the Champion again.
Works pretty well like this overall.

Since the topic came up, I guess it's worth noting that Ilima's trial charm is also colored in on the "northern" segment, so it doesn't seem as though that indicates island placement. Sophocles doesn't have to be on Akala, in that case.

Yeah, Ilima's trinket confirms this.
And Sophocles wasn't talked about much either, so in retrospective I think he fits Melemele or Ulaula better, since his programming skills probably would be put to better use in one of those two islands.

Did you guys see this Gamexplain video about the preview:

One of the guys said that he battled the same trainer twice and that they reset like in ORAS.

Hmm.

I did. Even though Ash sounded a bit confused about it, I would guess they took the Trainer's Eye from ORAS and implemented it either the same way (and he forgot about the interface related to it), or as something that happens automatically within a certain time span this time.

There won't be seven trials per island. That is far too much. Maybe seven trials in total per game but not seven on each island.

with the new way trainers spot you, i would imagine it happens automatically, like Breeders in BW2 (minus resetting every route change).

Something interesting came to mind. Didn't someone say it was very easy to get money early on? We know from a past video that you can get massive 20,000 just by tossing Pyukumuku (please tell me I spelled that right) back into the ocean on a tourist beach. Does that mean there are other very easy way to create a cache of of cash early on? If so, what do you think they'd be? Battles are usually the biggest source of income in the games, followed by selling stuff like nuggets, but I wonder what other ways of making quick money SM put in. What do you think GF added in SM that allows players to horde cash easily?

I don't think we would rebattle the trial captains or Kahunas to be honest. We hadn't got decent gym leader rematches since HGSS, Platinum and Emerald. It seems they have cut down on gym leader rematches. So I doubt expect the trial captains to be rebattlable any time soon.

I'm still worried we won't get them tho

Daily events. Maybe early on you do some errands and unlike Oak's Parcel get paid for them.

The casino's grand return!

... One can dream, can't they?

Mulling things over, I think its still an error on the media's part. They don't say whst exactly is the Z Crystal given to you by Lillie, and I doubt its not a Pokemon Crystal. I still believe the truth is that there likely is 14 Trials, with the Four Kahuna's giving you the crystal to their preferred type. No other reason to have them get type preferences and motifs if they aren't connected to the Z Crystal collectathon as well.
