Since gyms won't make an appearance in USUM, because Centro pokemon from Twitter, already have a screenshot of the home page:

Especially there is a video about Gym like building that ryuki was in the trailer, which the fans are speculating that we'll travelling to Kanto (Which I highly doubt), since USUM is compared to Emerald and Platinum.

Instead of having actual gyms or travel to another region to challenge gyms, maybe it's a gym simulator, a simulation on how gyms will turn out, and how their different from Island, especially in the anime Misty and Brock explain how gyms work. D you think we'll see Gym simulator?

If we do see a Gym simulator, I hope that we can create our own Gyms and be a Gym leader as well. Maybe make it an online feature where other players can challenge your Gym. And maybe we can save Gym interiors we really like and share them with the community.

I guess it could happen, although if there is something like this in USUM, it wouldn't really surprise me if it only featured the Kanto Gyms...

If this kind of thing is to interest me at all, then it would be good to set it up kind of like the Black Tower/White Treehollow. Maybe each "floor" could contain recreations of all of a generation's Gyms, and you'd have to battle through them until you found the designated Gate Trainer, who would then give you access to the Boss Trainer. After beating the Boss, you would be able to move on to the next floor, which has the Gyms of the next generation.

But that's never going to happen.

They mentioned "other facilities" in the direct trailer, so if photo studio isn't the only thing they meant, i think it is definitely possible we will see a gym simulator. Everything we've seen so far points to it being a "simulator" if it's gonna exist at all. I'm not super sure we will see it in USUM, but for now, I choose to believe.

If we do see it, though. I've said it before, I will say it here too: I hope it is going to be something that involves a mini-chain of quests where you have to do/complete things in order to unlock the ability to battle a certain gym. I also hope you can collect something from those gyms. It would be utterly pointless if the only thing you'd be able to do is outright just pick your gym of choice and fight it...that would make it no different from grinding at your run-of-the-mill restaurant/battle buffet. It would be way better if different gyms have different battle styles/gimmicks.

What if, depending on certain type specialists, weren't allowed to use moves that are normally super-effective against that type? It could provide a decent challenge in that case.

I was thinking of all kinds of gimmicks akin to what some frontier facilities offer/force you into. I mean, if we can't have a real frontier, they could give us a replacement at least... I'd like to see inverse battles, rentals, status-induction gimmicks, double battles, triple battles (not gonna happen, i know), rotations..and so on, depending on simulation. Banned SE moves is also a nice thing to do, just any form of gimmick to make things more refreshing

I agree. Game Freak really should put wacky non-standard battle styles in a single facility. If they can't be bothered to do multiple facilities, then the next best thing would to at least add all sort of crazy stuff into a single facility. Personally, I'd like the following battle modes in this hypothetical gym simulator:
  • no SE moves
  • Inverse Battles
  • No abilities
  • Battle Swap (from the battle factory)
  • Judge Battles (basically the rules from Emerald's Battle Arena)
  • Unleashed Mode (where both you and your opponents can use multiple Megas and Z-Moves)

If that happens, y'all best get ready for a Bug gym, yo.

Maybe a gym simulator will be something like the Battle Ground from Pokemon Platinum where be able to rechallenge the Gym Leaders and Battle Stat Trainer. Maybe you'll be able to battle Trial Captains, possibly Kahunas, and Rivals, while the defend you championship will still be in USUM. You can choose your theme of Gyms, Lt Surge's gyms is a example, since we saw Ryuki in it.

I'd want more than just Kanto for these Gymulators, or maybe limit it to 1 Gym per region for a total of 6 battle facilities. Vermillion for Kanto, Blackthorn for Johto, ect.
Due to the GS Virtual Console releases, there might be chance that you'll get to fight all the Kanto + Johto Gyms. Basically, all the gyms present in Gen 2 is what I believe is most likely to occur.

Isn't this basically just a revival of the "League Simulator" rumour from Sun and Moon's speculative days? I'd like to see it but I'm not feeling very hopeful about this simulation stuff actually happening.

If a custom Gym feature of sorts does indeed make it into USUM, I will officially take back everything I said back in June about how I was skeptical that these games would even be worth getting, how they just screamed "cash grab", and so forth.

That said, I'm not getting my hopes up yet by any means, and if it were me, I would definitely try to fix some of the issues the Super Secret Bases had, like turning off all experience gains so that people can't abuse it to level grind (team of 3 Blisseys). And I think they really should ban all of the "traditionally banned" Uber-legendaries from being used or being part of an uploaded team as well, because otherwise where's the fun?

Well I don't see actual Gyms in USM, because of the model of Gym in SM data file, If you compare the Model of gym, and the Lt Surge's gym in USUM Trailer, the model look the same, but the design is Lt Surge, If they were more gyms, don't you think they would have a different model. Plus the Screenshot of the home page, indicating there are no gyms in Alola. If it's not gym simulator, then what is?
