A really good tournament arc. I would be perfectly happy with Ash losing in the semifinals and no epic final battle with a previously established rival as long as it's solid. Here's some things I would like in a league arc:
1. No factors that screw with matches like Cameron not knowing what full means, the TRio interference in the Ritchie battle and Morrison not having his head in the game costing him Growlithe and Girafarig.
2. Some kind of explanation which explains why there is an amount of participants that matches single elimination format. Seriously the Kalos league just happened to have exactly 64 trainers when Ash was late to register. Way too convenient. Give us some kind of endurance competition or screening like in Johto. Or maybe just have a first come first serve system and have Ash register before the last minute.
3) A complete full battle that doesn't involve Ash. This is something I wanted for awhile now.
4) More battles that don't have Ash.
5) Themed battle fields with battle field changes during half time.
6) Use of stored Pokemon. C'mon give Kingler some action will ya.
7) Spacial strategy and other tactics.
8) Good one shot opponents. If you don't have the time to flesh out a bunch of plot lines having characters that don't exist outside one match is fine.
9) Talking to family members and professor Oak. Heck have Delia actually watch for once.
10) If there is going to be non battling episode use it well. Just because it might be time to stop battling doesn't mean it's a free space. Use it on something meaningful to later battles or a really good team rocket plot.
