Since my word count is so close to a threshold, I'll explain why I got that number when others who check might not reach 750 (after removing the greeting, bolded categories and quotes): most character count checkers do not take contractions into account and considers them one word only, while mine does not. This accounts for the discrepancy in word count, and why I've been generous in the past when it comes to bumping someone up to, say, 500 words when they only saw themselves at 480.

EDIT - Contractions really do make a bigger difference than I realised. Since you've been generous in your previous counts it's only fair that is reciprocated
