Sometimes it's fun for me to imagine what kind of team various characters or celebrities would have if they were in the Pokémon world. What Pokémon would best represent their personality? Would they have a consistent theme, like a shared type, or would they be a mishmash of all sorts of Pokémon? Share your ideas here! If you see a character has already been done but you disagree with that team feel free to post your own!

If you want to get creative and make a trainer card for them as well you can on this website

Here's an example I made:

Batman
-Crobat
-Noivern
-Greninja
-Hitmonchan
-Gengar
-Cubone

A couple bats, a ninja, a boxer, a shadow, and a fellow orphan. Thought these were all appropriate. :p

I know there's plenty of characters I adore that I could make a team for, so for now, I'll do the one I'm theming as of this post: the somewhat obscure Super Mario 3D World boss, Motley Bossblob.

  1. Mime Jr. -> Mr. Mime: The obvious choice for a jester.
  2. Wishiwashi: Its Schooling is very akin to Motley's ability to converge with his blobs into a larger, scarier form.
  3. Gulpin -> Swalot: They much resemble his blobs, and have a black rhombus pattern like his giant form.
  4. Munchlax -> Snorlax: Munchlax looks sort of like it's wearing an outfit like Motley's true form, and it evolves into something huge and round. Perfect fit.
  5. Mimikyu: When its eyes glow, they have the same look as the glowing eyes of Motley's giant form and the blobs it consists of. Plus, it's cute yet sinister, just like Motley!
  6. Solosis -> Duosion -> Reuniclus: A family of psychic blobs that are powerful in a group seems quite appropriate for Motley.

I think a lot about certain characters' teams tbh. For example, Riko (the girl in my avy) is a musician who considers herself plain, so her team would probably look something like this:
I'd imagine she'd specialise in Normal-types because their designs are usually plain, except for a few exceptions like Bewear.

The team that I would use myself if I were a real trainer - and which my fanfiction-created Joseph character uses in his interview show - is actually in the Trainer Card I've got in my signature.

Torterra: My favorite starter line, and I have always had an interest in geography and geology and the like

Vaporeon: My favorite Eeveelution ever since I was just a boy. I also like its ability to turn its body into water, and can't help but wonder if Juvia from Fairy Tail was inspired b

Magnezone: Fits my nerdy side quite well

Clefable:
It doesn't like loud noises, IRL I am also very easily overwhelmed by the world around me. And yet I've always found fairies kind of cute for some reason, too

Absol: I sympathize with its misunderstood lone wolf nature, and really like the looks of its Mega Evolution as well

Gallade: I like how he often is depicted as standing up for Trainers who cannot stand up for themselves very well, like Wally. He's also effective against the two types that the largest number of jerkish Trainers specialize in (Poison & Dark).

Both Gallade and Absol would be capable of Mega Evolution.

Also note that all of these Pokemon are in the Sinnoh Pokedex (in Platinum). Thus, in my fanfiction, "Joseph" is from Sinnoh.

Sailor Venus -Girafarig, Ninetales (maybe)
Rogue (X Men) - Cubone, Marowak, Ledian, Breloom, Mawile, Rampardos, Lucario
Kozue Ayuhara - Cubone, Marowak, Ledian, Lucario

I'm doing one for one of my fave ships I invented myself, Perpugilliam Brown and Melanie Jane Bush.
Both from the original version of Doctor Who but not the same televised stories.

Peri's team
Serperior - starter
Alomomola - surf mon
Sylveon - gift eeveelution
Roserade
Lilligant
Tsareena

Mel's team
Chesnaught - starter
Leafeon - gift eeveelution
Mr. Mime
Wobbuffet
Exeggutor
Ludicolo

Before I switch themes very soon, I wanted to post what I’d imagine Xiaolin Showdown villain Jack Spicer’s Pokémon team to be like.

  1. Yamask: In the series, Jack Spicer is usually accompanied by the spirit of Wuya, who takes the form of a small ghost with skinny arms and a mask for a face, so Yamask is an obvious Pokémon companion for him. It also fits with Jack’s own aesthetic.
  2. Golett -> Golurk (multiple): Jack Spicer often employs his own automatons, the Jack-bots, to fight his enemies, so this Pokémon is also an obvious fit for him.
  3. Mankey: Jack Spicer’s most used Shen Gong Wu (the magical artifacts of Xiaolin Showdown) is the Monkey Staff, which gives the wielder monkey-like traits; therefore, I can imagine he’d use a Mankey in battle.
  4. Klink -> Klang -> Klinklang: The members of the Klink line are mechanical Pokémon that aren’t particularly popular, and Jack Spicer is a mechanical genius who also isn’t very popular (in-universe). They’re a match made in heaven.

I've been thinking about this for a while and I think I've come up with some teams that, imo, could be fitting for my fave characters.

Seth (Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones):
Aegislash (a noble sword and shield Pokémon fitting for a noble knight)
Escavalier (Seth also uses lances as shown in his art, so a lance Pokémon is also fitting)
Gallade ( noble and courteous, like Seth)
Arcanine (brave and loyal, like Seth is to Eirika)
Rapidash (represents Seth's horse)

Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII):
Male Pyroar (Squall has a lion motif, so it can represent Griever)
Luxray (same as above)
Umbreon (Squall has a mostly black outfit, Umbreon evolves by friendship so it can also represent Squall opening up more to his friends during the game)
Absol (a misunderstood Pokémon for a misunderstood person)

Rinoa Heartilly (Final Fantasy VIII):
Herdier (representing her dog Angelo)
Togekiss (angelic type of appearance, references her Angel Wing limit break)
Swanna (wing motif, wings also looks angelic)
Sylveon (Rinoa cares about her friends, and I feel she would definitely have this eeveelution on her team)

Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII):
Jolteon (the spiky design is fitting for Cloud's spiky hair lol)
Bisharp (this is one Pokémon that is soldier like, fitting for Cloud who wanted to be in SOLDIER)
Scyther (it's blades reminds me of Cloud's Buster Sword)
Braviary (this Pokémon helps and protects it's friends, Cloud is very similar in that regard)
Reuniclus (a reference to cells, this Pokémon can represent the Jenova cells that Cloud has)
Dragonite (it's kindhearted and it seems like a Pokémon Cloud would have, especially reminding me of his Crisis Core appearance)

Demon Lord Ghirahim (Zelda: Skyward Sword)

> aegislash (fits with ghirahim's being a demon, not to mention his association with swords)
> gallade (psychic powers + blades)
> sableye (fits with the diamond motif, and most of ghirahim's subordinates consist of goblins)
> marowak (representing stalfos, another subordinate species)
> starmie (diamond motif)
> serperior (fabulous and full of itself, just like ghiry)

After rewatching Beyblade Burst episodes I thought this time I'd come up with teams for my favorite characters in this series as well. These are what I think are fitting for them.

Wakiya Murasaki (Beyblade Burst):
Goodra
Noivern
Naganadel
Salamence
Haxorus
Druddigon

Basically Wakiya would be a dragon type trainer due to his Bey being Wyvron W2 Vertical Orbit/W3 4Glaive Atomic, which is a dragon. Also due to his outfit being purple with a dragon design on it I added the first three Pokémon to fit that design choice.

Silas Karlisle (Beyblade Burst Evolution):
Houndoom
Lucario
Mightyena
Weavile
Pangoro
Sableye

Admittedly this one was a bit harder as it's hard to find direct Pokémon counterparts for his Bey Satomb S3 2Glaive Loop, so with Satomb's design I decided to mostly go with a dark type theme + Lucario (this one Pokémon kind of fits him in a way). So his team, like himself, is a fitting trope for Jerk with a Heart of Gold; also Weavile and Sableye with their smirks is very similar to Silas' own smirk.

Shu Kurenai (Beyblade Burst):
Infernape
Incineroar
Turtonator
Darmanitan
Alakazam
Espeon

Another slightly hard one, though I went with a mostly fire type team to compare with his Spryzen S2 Knuckle Unite/Legend S3 7 Merge/Requiem S3 0 Zeta. For Alakazam Shu is considered a genius blader so adding in a smart Pokémon is fitting, and for Espeon even though Shu can be a loner and after going through the whole Red-Eye fiasco in Evolution it's shown he still cares for his friends.

Naoki Minamo (Beyblade Burst):
Gyarados
Wishiwashi
Kingdra
Primarina
Walrein
Bruxish

A water type team to compare Nepstrius N2 Vertical Trans, which the beast is a merman. Primarina is the closest to a mermaid like Pokémon and added Bruxish since he's considered smart, especially with the plan to sabotage Shu's match.

Joshua Burns (Beyblade Burst Evolution):
Pidgeot
Skarmory
Swellow
Staraptor
Unfezant (male)
Tornadus

Can't believe I forgot to add him. Joshua has an all flying type to compare his Jinnius J3 5Glaive Guard. Pidgeot and Staraptor complement his hairstyle lol and for Tornadus Joshua's blade is a air based djinn so what better than to have an actual flying genie Pokémon to his team, plus he used to be one of the Big 5 so why not add a legendary.

I couldn't pick one favorite character, so here's three of my top favorites:-

Harry Potter:- (I can totally imagine him becoming Champion of some region!)

Charizard- Harry loves flying and he is a Gryffindor. The element of Gryffindor house is fire. So a fire/flying type would be perfect for him.

Dragonite- He has defeated a dragon. So obviously he deserves a dragon type.

Empoleon- He has some Slytherin traits in him. And their element is water. And I think out of all water-types Empoleon would be perfect for him.

Machamp- Harry is a bit on the scrawny side, so maybe he'll like a muscular Pokemon for protection.

Aegislash- Harry has a brave warrior-like personality. So I think it'll suit him.

Sylveon- If he catches an Eevee I can totally see it loving it's trainer and evolving into a Sylveon. Because love was always described as Harry's special quality.

Percy Jackson (I see him becoming more of a water-type specialist, and probably an Elite Four member later on).
His team would include:-
Blastoise
Greninja
Swampert
Walrein
Gyarados
Seismitoad
(I especially included Seismitoad and Swampert because they are part ground. And Percy's father Poseidon is known as earth-shaker too).

Loki ( I imagine him becoming an ice-type specialist. Also maybe he'll choose contests over gym battles.)
His Pokemon would be:-
Alolan Ninetales
Froslass
Abomasnow
Beartic
Glaceon
Glalie

Personally, I’d expect Harry Potter’s Pokémon team to include at least one of Stantler, Sawsbuck, or even Xerneas due to his stag Patronus, as well as Noctowl as a nod to Hedwig.

Also, after rewatching Prisoner of Azkaban, I have a few ideas for Pokémon some other characters may have.

Sirius Black

1. Mightyena: in reference to his black dog transformation.
2. Houndoom: same as above.
3. Braviary: perhaps the closest thing to Buckbeak the hippogriff that Pokémon yet has to offer.
4. Absol: A misunderstood canine Pokémon blamed for disaster but really trying to prevent it suits Black perfectly.
5. Spiritomb: Sirius Black was imprisoned by dreadful, spirit-like Dementors, while Spiritomb is made up of dreadful spirits that are themselves imprisoned. So, there’s a connection there. Somewhere. I guess.
6. Shedinja: an empty husk rumored to steal souls, for a man who was nearly turned into an empty husk by having his own soul stolen. Wait, why would he even want this, again?

Peter Pettigrew

A full team of Raticate. Maybe some Alolan ones thrown in for variety. Because, well, ya know.

Professor Lupin
I haven’t come up with a full team for him, but three Pokémon dedicated to Lupin is better than none.

1. Midnight Lycanroc: Because of the whole werewolf thing.
2. Lunatone: He’s afraid of the full moon because of how it affects him, so there’d be some interesting irony in Lupin training a “moon” that instills fear in others.
3. Ditto: because of the shapeshifting bogart he used for instructional purposes in his Defense Against the Dark Arts class, and for training Harry.

I love the idea of Harry having Xerneas and Noctowl. They would be a better fit then Machamp and Empoleon I think.

And your Pokemon choices for Sirius, Remus and Pettigrew are perfect. :)

Thanks. I also like your idea of Harry having an Aegislash, especially since he did receive Godric Gryffindor’s sword for being worthy of wielding it.

I also know a few Pokémon that would be good fits for Albus Dumbledore.

  1. Ho-oh: named Fawkes (like mine in Ultra Sun, lol). Self explanatory.
  2. Delphox: a very wizard-like Pokémon akin to Dumbledore.
  3. Bronzong: an enchanted bell for the headmaster of a wizarding school. Perfect.
  4. Gardevoir: very protective like Dumbledore, and with seemingly magical powers.
  5. Alakazam -> Mega Alakazam: powerful, intelligent, and even bearded upon Mega Evolution.
  6. Alolan Muk: for Albus’ involvement in alchemy.

@Cutiefly I also have a team idea for Loki.

Zoroark (to represent his wolf-son Fenrir, and the fact that Loki is a trickster)

Seviper (to represent the midgard serpent)

Banette (Loki is a master of disguise)

Accelgor (this may be a stretch, but in Smite, Loki is a stealthy assassin, much like a ninja)

Midnight Lycanroc (Ragnarok)

Whimsicott (Prankster)

After being very recently exposed to the Groke, I simply must make her a Pokémon team.

  1. Glalie: An icy demon with a perpetual grimace suits her well.
  2. Froslass: So does a female ghost-like entity with ice powers.
  3. Muk: not only are they both spooky, purple and blobby, but they both cause the ground where they tread to become barren for a long time/eternity.
  4. Mimikyu: A cloaked ghost that wants attention, but is dangerous to those who get too close, similarly to the Groke.
  5. Probopass: I mean, seriously, just look at that big honker!
  6. Sableye: Apparently they share a fascination with gems.

At some point several years ago, when I was a huge Undertale fanboy (I still kinda am, but to far smaller degree), I was thinking about how an Undertale Pokemon League would look like. It would... somewhat like this:

GYM LEADERS
1.
Napstablook - Ghost type specialist (of course)
Their team would consist of Misdreavous and Phantump - two relatively harmless and friendly (if mischievous, in Misdreavous case) Ghost types. It also helps that Misdreavous was regularly portrayed in the anime as rather shy, fitting Blooky's personality. Also, Misdreavous would be their signature.
2. Toriel - Normal type specialist
Now, Normal may look like a weird type for her - most people give her Fire types. Thing is, said people make her Fire type specialist due to her being a pyromancer, but then give her Pokemon that don't really fit her in any way - simply because there aren't any Fire types suitable for her in terms of personality or apperance. So instead I decided to go the other way - first chose Pokemon, and then type.
Anyway, Toriel would have Chansey and Kangaskhan - two Pokemon known for their motherly, protective nature, with Kangaskhan as her signature.
3. Greater Dog - Ice type specialist
His team would consist of Snorunt (who resembles somewhat Ice Cap - an enemy found in the same area as Greater Dog) and his signature Snover (who - or rather whose evolution - similarly to Greater Dog himself is surprisingly friendly and curious despite scary looks).
4. Papyrus THE GREAT PAPYRUS, GROUND TYPE & SPAGHETTI COOKING SPECIALIST
  • Marowak - his signature Pokemon and a rather obvious choice for a skeleton.
  • Diglett - it being one of the very few permamently grounded Pokemon would allude rather nicely to Papyrus' gimmick of using telekinesis to ground the player during fight.
  • Rhyhorn - don't know why. I just decided Rhyhorn would be good choice for him.
5. Mad Dummy - Electric type specialist (they use robots during their boss fight, so...)
  • Rotom - Ghost/Electric type that often possesses electric appliances, and a signature Pokemon of a crazy ghost possessing a dummy.
  • Magneton - robot-like Pokemon.
  • Manectric - easily angered, teritorial Pokemon for easily angered, teritorial character.
6. Undyne - Fighting type specialist.
Once again, some would say that Water type would suit her better, but I think otherwise.
  • Poliwrath - simply 'cause it's a Water/Fighting type.
  • Primeape - always angry, never loses its target. Just like Undyne.
  • Gallade
  • Lucario - her signature. Both Gallade and Lucario are the "noble warrior-defender" types and thus would fit nicely with Undyne's "I CAN FEEL ALL THEIR HEARTS BEATING AS ONE" thingy.
7. Muffet - Spi... I mean, Bug type specialist. Obviously.
  • Ariados - her signature.
  • Galvantula
  • Araquanid
  • Masquerain - alright, not a spider, but its preevolution is based on a water strider. Which is ALSO not a spider, but it is an arachnid, so close enough.
8. Mettaton - Steel type specialist.
  • Metagross - his signature, being a robot-like Pokemon and all.
  • Mawile - Steel/Fairy type for the most fabulous robot out there.
  • Doublade - Ghost/Steel type for a ghost-powered android.
  • Bronzong - easily the most annoying Pokemon to deal with prior to Gen 6 for IMHO hardest boss in the whole game.
ELITE FOUR
1.
Flowey - Grass type specialist.
  • Ferrothorn - his signature. Just like Flowey himself, Ferrothorn fights using spiky vines - and it even resembles somewhat Flowey's Omega form!
  • Sunflora - because it resembles him somewhat.
  • Trevenant - because
He's actually Asriel resurrected as flower. Trevenant meanwhile - or rather its preevolution - is, according to Pokedex, a child resurrected as Pokemon.
  • Carnivine - once again, alluding to Flowey's usage of vines and flytraps.
  • Victreebell - ditto
2. Sans - Psychic type specialist.
  • Wobbuffet - a lethal joke Pokemon for someone who prefers to catch his opponents off guard. His signature.
  • Slowbro - there aren't any "lazy" Psychic types per say, but Slowbro is relatively close.
  • Darmanitan - another gimmicky Pokemon.
  • Xatu - it's future sight is sorta kinda similar to Sans' knowledge of alternate timelines.
  • Musharna - dream Pokemon. Sans constantly dozes off. There's definitely some similarity.
3. Chara - Dark type specialist.
  • Bisharp - their signature Pokemon, a blade handed monster for a child with... uh... rather worrying affinity for knives.
  • Weavile - ditto
  • Shiftry - ditto
  • Crawdaunt - ditto
  • Hydreigon - di... I mean, Hydreigon's destructive rampage, which ties nicely with Chara wanting revenge on humanity.
4. Asriel - Dragon type specialist.
All of his Pokemon are pseudo-legendary Dragon types.
  • Dragonite - signature.
  • Salamence
  • Garchomp
  • Hydreigon
  • Goodra
CHAMPION - Asgore
  • Slowking
  • Seaking
  • Kingdra
  • Kingler
  • Nidoking
  • Nidoqueen
...Yeah, his whole gimmick is having a team of six Pokemon with "king/queen" in the name.

Thought of more characters I like as Pokémon trainers, these are the teams I think fits them:

Seliph (FE Genealogy of the Holy War):
Gallade
Espeon
Escavalier
Dragonair
Altaria
Rapidash

He was kind of hard to find perfect Pokémon to fit him, so I went with Gallade and Escavalier fitting for a sword wielder, since there is no light typing I tried finding other Psychic type (and Fairy type but none fit him imo) and went with Espeon since it evolves in the daytime via friendship and seeing how Seliph is, I think this eeveelution does indeed fit into his team. As for Dragonair and Altaria his mother has major Naga blood so I thought maybe give him Dragon type to reference his mom, and Rapidash fits for him promoting into a Knight Lord + could be his father's own Pokémon passed down to him after his death.

Gunvolt (Gunvolt series):
Raichu
Manectric
Luxray
Vikavolt
Jolteon
Zeraora

An all Electric team does suit him. Especially added Manectric and Vikavolt (this one also plays into the naming) due to the coloring being similar to GV's outfit.

Shoto Todoroki (MHA):
Ninetales
Arcanine
Flareon
Alola Ninetales
Alola Sandslash
Glaceon

Since his Quirk is Half-Hot Half-Cold, it was obvious to go with a half fire, half ice team. Both Ninetales and the fire and ice eeveelutions are especially due to the fact that a lot of fanart gives him these four Pokémon, and it's pretty cute so I went with that choice as well.

Soren (FE Path of Radiance & Radiant Dawn):
Noctowl
Honchkrow
Xatu
Talonflame
Baile Oricorio
Delphox

Went with a mostly Flying team since his starting weapon is a Wind tome. He can also use fire and electric, but since I didn't find any fitting Electric types I stuck with fire as secondary. The Psychic typings is a reference to him being a mage as well.

Clio Delon (Beyblade Burst Evolution):
Golbat
Crobat
Musharna
Meowstic (male)
Swoobat
Girafarig

Couldn't really find any Pokémon to compare with his Bey Caynox C3 4Flow Bearing, so I decided to go with Psychic Pokémon since the beast looks to be kind of psychic looking. The bat Pokémon are reference to his vampire motif he has.
