Movies/TV Movie Box Office, Releases, and Discussion

When I saw the commercials for Alita I had to do a double take cause man, her design kinda creeped me out. It almost looks like they tried to make a realistic anime/manga character (I know it's based off the Gunnm manga) and decided to keep the big eyes instead of actually making them normal sized.

Also gonna avoid Happy Death Day 2U since I didn't like the first one at all personally.

Alita: Battle Angel looks gorgeous, visually. I actually like her big eyes; they put her right in the cool part of the Uncanny Valley. But I've only heard meh or bad things about it, and past manga/anime adaptations from Hollywood have been pretty shit. So, skip.

Isn't it Romantic looks generic as fuck, though I'm surprised to see Rebel Wilson. I totally forgot about her until now.

Fighting with My Family seems interesting, but not interesting enough for me to go to the theater and pay $25. But I eagerly await seeing it on TV in about a year.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
Plot: Hiccup, now leader of his people, has nearly reached his goal of creating a dragon utopia. But when Night Fury meets a wild, untamed potential mate, he finds a whole new world - and Hiccup finds his leadership tested as both dragon and rider face impossible decisions that will determine the fate of their futures.

I'm actually surprised Alita is at the top, does it follow the manga/OVA or does it take it's own liberties like Dragon Ball Evolution I wonder.
It's an action movie with a lot of top-tier talent attached to it, it's not surprising to see it top around this time of year, especially the weekend after Valentine's when you should expect a drop-off in the performance of romcoms.

I'm just surprised with Alita being at the top since live action movie adaptations of manga/anime (well OVA adaptations in this case) series don't really do too well usually, still not gonna see it though since the manga itself is mediocre imo and I doubt the movie will change my opinion of it (that and Alita really creeps me out in this movie lol). Of course, the movie had James Cameron working on it (not director though? iirc) so I guess it would have done okay at best, though I certainly wasn't expecting it to be at the top. But I'm happy for it's fans that it did well, at least.

Anyway as for new movies the new How to Train Your Dragon looks good, I love the movie series so I'm definitely gonna try and see it in theaters. Pass on Fighting with My Family though, maybe I'll watch it whenever it comes out on TV.

James Cameron and Cristolph Waltz were undoubtedly the big draws (Lana Condor's star is very quickly rising, but she's probably not Why most people went to see it).

Alita looks atrocious and I've heard only bad things about it. One to avoid.
I've seen it and it isn't terrible; the main problem is it's basically an overly long trailer, setting up for a sequel.

For an anime adaptation, it's fairly accurate and true to the source material, including that one scene that put me off Alita back in the 90s.

As Greta and Frances become closer, however, Frances discovers more of the same handbag and realizes that Greta is not who she appears to be and as the facade falls away, madness intervenes.

Captain Marvel
Plot: Air Force pilot Carol Danvers finds herself transformed into an incredibly powerful individual after an accident, rescued by an alien race, the Kree and imbued with their own power. Joining the elite warrior team, the Starforce, led by commander Mar-Vell, she returns to Earth when she finds out her home planet is in the middle of a war between the Kree and the shape-shifting Skrulls. Beyond fighting this war, she hopes to learn more about her past and she catches the attention of Nick Fury, a bureaucrat who will one day go on to become the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I dislike Carol in the comics, Brie Larson is wooden as hell, and the reviews (which are normally all-praise, as if the MCU is the second coming of Raimi) are mixed, so it looks like it's going to suck really hard. I can't wait to watch it.
