Morgan Freeman was accused of sexual harassment by eight women
I don't care how many women ACCUSED Mr. Freeman of sexual harassment. Tell me how many of said accusations were proven to be TRUE.

Presumption of innocence is a thing. That's how civilized countries function: being male, rich and famous doesn't mean you are automatically guilty.
so I don't care what he has to say even if he was right, which he isn't.
Great! But, with all due respect, Morgan Freeman probably doesn't care if you care about what he has to say, either.

Besides, my post wasn't even directed to you, so I don't understand why you took the time to reply, if you don't care about what he has to say.

That’s what I’m worried about. If Biden takes all these hits from the left and still wins the nomination, we could be in trouble.
Of course, if Biden does pull it off and beat Trump, it would raise the question of why people were more willing to vote for him than Hillary. (I think the answer’s pretty obvious)

I dislike Biden for reasons I have already mentioned in this topic before (not respecting the boundaries of women/girls and being too "centrist"), and I really hope that somehow he doesn't become the nominee, but even if he does I will still get out and vote for him over Trump. Trump and his administration are a complete and utter disaster. They must be stopped ASAP.

He is totally correct, we need to stop bringing race into the conversation if we truly believe in equality. Identity politics are evil.
Like I said before, we’re not going to fix these problems by ignoring them, especially when they’ve been so deeply ingrained in American society for 200+ years. The only way to find a real solution is to confront the issues head on, or else they’ll just continue to weigh us down. Following Morgan Freeman’s advice would mean turning a blind eye to things like...

Ongoing school segregation: 65 years after Brown v. Board of Education, school segregation is getting worse

Effects of redlining: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...years-ago-its-still-hurting-minorities-today/

Voter suppression: North Carolina's Deliberate Discrimination Against Black Voters

And so much more.

The debates are starting next month. We’ll see if Biden can maintain his lead when he’s forced to get specific on policy.

You can literally solve all the issues you mention, without bringing RACE into the discussion. You solve injustices by helping people in need. And it doesn't matter if they are black, latino or white (poor white people exist). You don't help minorities by collectively blaming whites for something they didn't do.
If you notice, Morgan Freeman says "stop TALKING about racism". He didn't say "stop ACTING against racism". What this means is that you don't solve racism by acting like a virtue signalling SJW. You solve racism by tackling it wherever you see it. And this goes in both directions. Because anti-white racism exists, whether the left wants to admit it or not.

While I'm not someone super into politics, I do know that my country is doing pretty good when it comes to equality. Most people nowdays wouldn't even bring up someone in a high ranking position being a woman. This recent school year though we've been talking about womens equality a lot and man, it used to be a huge topic. Back when women had close to no rights, people didn't really talk about it either, but once they did, actions to improve were made. Blame isn't a solution, but I don't think we as a society can avoid talking about hate either. I get why black history month might not seem like a good idea when black history should just be regular history, but it's also it's own section of history. Freeman is of course free to not want it, but he doesn't speak for every black person, just like I don't speak for every woman, norwegian, or other groups I belong to :b

Anyways, I don't think that's quite what this thread is for, woops.

To solve an injustice, you need to understand the cause of the injustice. The issues I brought up, along with plenty of others, were the result of laws and policies created with the specific purpose of harming minorities, particularly African-Americans. Therefore, race must be part of the discussion in order to come up with an effective solution. I understand talking about these things is uncomfortable, but it’s necessary.

And you also need to realize that blaming the innocent descendants of those who committed the injustice, is unfair and racist (against whites).

No, not at all. The cause of the injustice may have been racist, but the solution doesn't need to be racial. You can help black people in need, while also helping white people in need. Why are you so obsessed with helping minorities in particular, when you can help people in need of all races and backgrounds? Positive discrimination is still discrimination, you know. It's not equality.
I understand talking about these things is uncomfortable, but it’s necessary.
It's not an uncomfortable issue for me. My ancestors didn't colonise or enslave anybody. I am Eastern European.

Im willing to vote for Joe Biden if he gets nominated, but Im not convinced he will get the nomination just yet. Id like to see the other candidates talk and see what they have to offer, as Im not sold or are behind anyone in particular just yet other than Bernie Sanders and I sadly dont think I can see him getting the nomination this time around either since he has a ton of competition and would have to really stand out against all the others.

Currently I support Bernie the most out of those running for nominations. This will be the first election I can vote in, so I can't wait to see who there will be to choose from when the final candidates are decided.

It just dawned on me again that if I vote Biden or any Democratic candidate in the 2020 election it won't count for anything, just like my vote for Hillary in 2016, because every single county in my pathetic state voted majority for Trump in 2016, and thus only votes for Trump counted in my state. Nevermind that Hillary actually won the popular vote. That didn't mean crap, and thus neither did my vote.

It is literally entirely pointless for me to vote in the 2020 election, just as it was in the 2016 election. People always want to say otherwise, but you can't really tell me otherwise in this case. I do plan on voting, of course, but it's just sad how it is literally entirely pointless even though so many people want to smugly say otherwise.

You make some fair points, and I wasn’t quite sure how to adequately respond. So I pulled a couple of parts from Playboy Magazine’s 1965 interview with Dr. Martin Luther King jr.
Playboy: Do you feel it's fair to request a multibillion-dollar program of preferential treatment for the Negro, or for any other minority group?
King: I do indeed. Can any fair-minded citizen deny that the Negro has been deprived? Few people reflect that for two centuries the Negro was enslaved, and robbed of any wages—potential accrued wealth which would have been the legacy of his descendants. All of America's wealth today could not adequately compensate its Negroes for his centuries of exploitation and humiliation. It is an economic fact that a program such as I propose would certainly cost far less than any computation of two centuries of unpaid wages plus accumulated interest. In any case, I do not intend that this program of economic aid should apply only to the Negro; it should benefit the disadvantaged of all races.
It’s true that poor white people are also hurt by many of these discriminatory policies. But because these policies specifically targeted minorities, they’re the ones who suffer the most. A recovery plan needs to take that into account. But that doesn’t mean leaving poor whites out in the cold. Here’s more from Dr. King.

Playboy: If a nationwide program of preferential employment for Negroes were to be adopted, how would you propose to assuage the resentment of whites who already feel that their jobs are being jeopardized by the influx of Negroes resulting from desegregation?
King: We must develop a Federal program of public works, retraining and jobs for all—so that none, white or black, will have cause to feel threatened. At the present time, thousands of jobs a week are disappearing in the wake of automation and other production efficiency techniques. Black and white, we will all be harmed unless something grand and imaginative is done. The unemployed, poverty-stricken white man must be made to realize that he is in the very same boat with the Negro. Together, they could exert massive pressure on the Government to get jobs for all. Together, they could form a grand alliance. Together, they could merge all people for the good of all.
I strongly recommend reading the interview in its entirety. Lots of good stuff there.

Well, it seems that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said exactly what I am saying: we should help all people in need, not just blacks, not just minorities.

I agree completely.

Also, thank you for being respectful and recognising the validity of the points I made.

The first Democratic debates are behind us, and the winners are clearly Marianne Williamson (who gained an actual national profile), Elizabeth Warren (who now leads in polls asking voters which candidate has the best policy positions and leads in Iowa polling), and especially Kamala Harris (who gained attention for a heated exchange with Joe Biden, and spiked in the polls). Pete Buttigieg leads in fundraising, but his polling has failed to reflect this, as he struggles to gain support among black voters, particularly in the wake of a police shooting in his own town of South Bend, and his failure to take a strong stance on the issue. Beto O'Rourke's numbers have collapsed after he was sharply criticized by Julian Castro during the debates, and John Hickenlooper's campaign is reportedly in shambles. Joe Biden remains the frontrunner, but his numbers have been falling as he has had to remain on the defensive regarding his record, especially on race, and he apparently has trouble listening to his advisors. A perception is growing that Joe Biden is too old and out of touch to effectively lead and unite the Democratic Party, and his reaction to Kamala Harris' criticisms have raised doubts as to how he could actually handle the kinds of attacks Donald Trump is likely to level at him.

Loved watching kamala harris call Biden out on busing and then immediately walk it back the next day

lol, did you expect anything different? Kamala Harris' principles are as firm as pudding.

Looks like it’s quickly turning into a 4-person race. Hopefully that means the field gets cut down soon. There are a number of candidates (Castro, Hickenlooper) I would like to see drop out and run for Senate instead.

yeah there’s really no reason anyone beyond those four should be running, but man, Hickenlooper sucks so much ass. Castro is decent tho

Castro has improved since he began his campaign, which at the beginning was a standard Democratic campaign from like, 1992. He and Beto should be running for the Senate seat in Texas, though.

Hickenlooper should be running for nothing, and he should definitely stop taking credit for progressive policies (in particular the legalization of marijuana) which he actually opposed when they were being passed.

Imo Beto should just fuck off forever. Castro isn’t great, but he’s one of the least bad candidates running and his immigration platform is pretty good.

Yeah, I don’t think we need democrats running on explicitly anti socialist platforms in any positions of power at this point
