How would you change a Gym Leader’s team?

Most of my problems involve the gym leaders' signature Pokemon. What I particularly can't stand is when two different league members have the same signature Pokemon because it just ruins the uniqueness. That being said, I'm just going to break everything down by region:

Kanto:
No problems

Johto:
Morty: He should have had the Misdreavus line in the remakes. I mean, it was given an evolution in the same generation as the Johto remake and he still doesn't use it? Why? It could easily have been his signature in the rematches, and Gengar was already used by another important trainer that outranked him.

Hoenn:
Juan: First of all, Kingdra was Clair's signature first. Secondly, he is a gym leader in Hoenn, why is he using a water type that's native to another region? The reason I gave Falkner and Chuck a pass is because their region's Pokedex was more limited. Give Juan either Crawdaunt or Wailord to lead his team.
Wattson: I really wished he kept the Electrike line in ORAS. That was his signature Pokemon, why on Earth would the developers get rid of it?

Sinnoh:
No Problems (Though I do wish Drifblim was Fantina's signature so that her aesthetic matched her Pokemon's)

Unova:
Elesa: Swap out one of her Emolgas for the Tynamo or Joltik line.
Drayden/Iris: Swap one of their Haxorus' out with Druddigon. Redundancy between regions is one thing, but it shouldn't be something that occurs in the exact same game.

Kalos:
Everyone: GIVE THEM MORE POKEMON!

Johto:
Morty: He should have had the Misdreavus line in the remakes. I mean, it was given an evolution in the same generation as the Johto remake and he still doesn't use it? Why? Not that I disagree with your suggestion, but none of the Johto Gym Leaders in HG/SS received team changes during the main storyline other than Clair iirc. So it seems a bit unfair to only target Morty's team for criticism.

Manectric was only his ace in Emerald, and since OR/AS were always hyped to be remakes of R/S foremost, I don't think that the decision to keep his R/S team intact for OR/AS could be avoided.

I did focus on him because he was one of the Gym Leaders who reused someone else's signature. So, in hindsight, I see how my assessment was narrow and, to your point, unfair.

I just checked Bulbapedia and now I feel like a massive idiot for saying what I did.

Grant: Tyrantrum, Boldore, Aerodactyl
Roark: Rampardos from the start, Onix, Geodude
Roxanne: Nosepass, Cradily, Lairon

Ice type gym in gen 4 should have used a Frosslas and not Medicham
____
I would make always them have 3 pokemon or more even in the anime for relation.
Would make them have different pokemon then in past gen was used by other gym leaders.
Use unused pokemon from the past.
Give them a fully evolved or strong main pokemon.
Would make them use different strategies using switching moves and changing order during battle like sets of strategies.
Use main type and type combos , abilities and moves to make it last longer the types they are weak to.

I think that in general GF should introduce Gym leaders that are double experts. While I understand that specialisation is justified due to their status as the best of their type, I think that for increased game difficulty, Gym leaders should start to have one more type of expertise, like Grass and Poison, Water and Ice, etc. and also to stop with some of the stuff which was already posted above about some lineups being akward or lacking.
