Pokémon Sword and Shield anime speculation thread

But how would you know that? Just because they weren't given screen time doesn't mean that it didn't happen.
Would you rather the character development of his current Oak'd Pokemon be thrown out of the window?

What's the point of Infernape's entire abandonment, abuse and overcoming his fear then?

Because they weren't shown, much less implied to exist. What's the point of speculating on which other Pokemon AU Ash might have had when we likely won't ever find out? Because personally, I don't think that the AU Ash from the movie will be our new protagonist in ShSw regardless. It would seem pointless to me since our Ash and AU Ash act pretty much the same way.

We don’t even know they exist, and even if they do, we don’t know if their character arcs exist. It was a logical assumption they weren’t captured, as we don’t even see the capture, use or acknowledgement of any of Ash’s other Kanto Pokemon.

Interesting coincidence you mention that since Infernape is actually the Pokemon that drove me to make the point xD

That's a strange question. It's like asking us how we know that Ash doesn't own something like Gengar or Alakazam. Common sense dictates that Ash doesn't own a Pokemon if it isn't mentioned or shown onscreen under his ownership at least once and made clear that it belongs to him

And will most likely be the TV Ash starting his new journey in Galar with his new companions, whilst also travelling to past regions for a few episodes to see his old companions. Whatever the plot or reasons maybe is all part of the anime creator's plan and surprise.

This year also marks Game Freaks 30th Anniversary, and in 2021 will be Pokemon's 25 Anniversary. So there's something to consider.

By the looks of the Gym Leaders in Galar so far, and with this stadium concept, it looks as if this is going to be Ash's biggest challenge of all compared with what he tackled in Sinnoh. And with it requiring an endorsement, that's saying a lot.

I've already came up with a funny idea for a story where Ash's Scorbunny (likely getting one) falls in love with Dawn's Buneary, and thus leading to a love triangle. We have since DP Ash's Pikachu not interested with Dawn's Buneary but yet Buneary is interested with Pikachu. In the new series, it's the same as always, but this time having Buneary not interested with Scorbunny but yet Scorbunny is interested in Buneary, and Pikachu having the painful job of ''matchmaking''.

It only mattered during the Diamond & Pearl saga when it was relevant
Regardless of when it was relevant, there was an entire arc dedicated to it and it would be a waste to throw it all away. Same goes for a lot of his Pokemon.

And just because they're not shown nowadays doesn't mean they ceased to exist. They can always bring back those Pokemon when they see fit.

Yes, like the Champion's Cup. They might even bring Greninja back for that as well when Ash returns to Kalos for a short while in the new series.

Imagine Ash-Greninja Dynamaxed (Since it's an ability, not a Mega Evolution)

You can bring them back without harping on and on and on and on and on about their tragic backstory for the 35252th time

Let them grow beyond that for a change

However, Ash cannot compete in the Champion Cup unless he wins the League Conference of Galar.

That's why they'll probably save Kalos closer to last. But even if Ash does get Greninja back, he will leave it with Professor Oak until he's ready of taking it to compete in the Champions Cup, along with some of the other Pokemon that are with Professor Oak, such as Charizard, Sceptile, Torterra, Infernape, Krookodile, Melmetal and Incineroar (If Torracat doesevolves)

Can you not over-exaggerate or even generalize all of Ash's Pokemon under 'tragic backstory'? The only Pokemon with tragic backstories are Charizard, Infernape, Pignite and Torracat (Torracat's arc being a completely different type of tragic from the ones mentioned before it), the rest have different arcs. Your comment makes you look ignorant.

Surprisingly, all of these tragic Pokemon backstories are Fire Types. Just for a change, they could use another Pokemon Type. I somehow see Sobble being something similar to Chimchar in backstory.

However, there's no guarantee that Ash will win the Galar League Conference and compete in the Champion's Cup.

What about Alola if he does win? Does making him the first Champion make him more than liable to qualified.

Alola doesn't have a Champion Cup. In order to enter into a region's Champion Cup you have to win the league conference in that region.
I think you meant the Champion League, which would be the Elite 4 + Champion, something that was mentioned a lot back in DP.

What @Grass Type Gardenia probably meant was an invitational tournament like the PWT in the B2/W2 games.

This argument doesn't make sense to me.

They wouldn't be throwing away Infernape's development. This wouldn't be like what Star Wars did to their expanded universe by de-canonizing the it. OS-SM would still be just as canon as a potential AU, it would just be a separate timeline.
