Official Generation I-VIII Travelog Thread

Some big stuff happened yesterday in Day 3 of my Shield playthrough.

Obviously, the Opening Ceremony happened. I tried hard to stay away from spoilers for this scene so I could experience it for myself and... it did not live up to what I was building up in my head. I thought the Gym Leaders would get something more flashy that showcased the type they specialized in like fireworks but alas, it didn’t go like that. After that, before I went to Route 3, I battled at the Battle Cafe again (still didn’t get an Alcremie sweet) and went into the Wild Area to look for Den 13 (because there’s a certain TR I want to get for a future capture). After battling against two Raid Natu and a Raid Nincada with Darkheart and Sir Dinadin respectfully, collecting Watts and Berries, and exploring beyond the Motostoke Outskirts, I went on my way to Route 3. After a battle with Hop where Kiteruguma, Sir Dinadin, and Sarunori swept through his team, I was able to catch a Gossifluer and a Growlithe where Sir Dinadin finally evolved into a Corvisquire! I have to say, Corvisquire’s got to be my favorite of the Rookidee line, it just combines blue jay, corvid, and awesome so well and Sir Dinadin’s been my ace a lot throughout this playthrough, even a little more than Sarunori sometimes. He’s also been very playful in Camp and he’s stated he wants to be with me forever which is just . After obtaining Growlithe (now named Gar-Chan), I had the key to getting my next Pokémon and within seconds, I had it; a female Sizzlipede that I caught in a Premier Ball named Musashi. She’s already been a pretty big part of the team in the few hours she’s been on the team (like taking down a Budew and a Gossifluer three lvls her size) but if I had to pick a runner up for MVP today, it has to be YIYIYEE!!! the Chewtle. Once we started to find Rolycolys and got to the Galar Mine, he became our main fighter. Because I was in that weird spot where you’re aware that you’re starting to get a bit overleveled, I had to switch Sarunori and Sir Dinadin with Snom, Bolteleta, and on occasion Mothra. Standing out in particular was our battle against one lady with three Timburr. It was a battle of witts for us, between trying to decide when to Protect ourselves and when to attack but she was able to bring down two of them while Kiteruguma finished off the last. She was also in a very playful and affectionate Pokémon in Camp today and she is absolutely in love with the feather toy.

As we reached the end of the mine, we encountered the rude boy from the conference hall last night. He bragged a lot about being the most worthy because of his endorsement from Chairman Rose but Darkheart defeated his Solosis and Hattena with ease while Snom took down Gothita. It was during that battle that Darkheart evolved into Thievul and oh man, do I like how long it is! After getting out of the mine, I went onto Route 4. I was planning on searching for a Milcery but the amount of aggressive Galar Meowth and Electrike (plus the fear of getting overleveled) made me decide to hold that off until we beat Turffield’s gym. It didn’t take long to find it and soon I was walking around the stadium, hearing the whispers about Hop and I. I went in with the team of Snom, Sir Dinadin, Musashi, Sarunori, Meowth (because since it was my player’s father’s, it made sense for it to be there), and Kiteruguma. The gym puzzle; herding Wooloo. I did pretty decently until two Yamper got involved; I had to defeat the gym trainer in order to get past them. Finally I made it to the corridor where I met Milo for our battle. Things started pretty smoothly with Sir Dinadin taking out Milo’s Gossifluer quite easily with Pluck. It was when Dynamaxed Eldegoss came out that things got hard. I had initially planned on having Snom being the one to Dynamax against Eldegoss but unfortunately Max Overgrowth took her down before Max Flutterby had a chance to hit. Now it was up to Sir Dinadin. The Max Overgrowth did pretty heavy damage against him, small and undynamaxed as he was, but he was able to pull through and land one last Pluck on Dyna. Eldegoss. We had won! I was so proud of him and we celebrated his victory with some of his favorite spicy curry.

That wasn’t the only good thing that came from the Gym Battle. The Exp Share from that battle allowed for Sarunori to grow to level 22 and evolve into Thwackey and boy had he become a lot stronger! His Double Hit knocked out many opponents like wild Minccino and Team Skull Zigzagoon and even Branch Poke, one of his earliest and weakest moves remaining, could one hit KO Arrowkudas and Drizzile.

With the Grass Badge being ours, I went back to Route 4 to search for Milcery. I nearly gave up towards the end but I was finally able to find one and catch it a Friend Ball I had received from the Ball Guy. I named her Clover and with her, it’s really started to feel like the team’s all together (except for one that will not appear until much later). From there it was onto Route 5 where nothing really major happened other than obtaining a Toxel from the Nursery until we had a little run in with a Wobbuffet. She took out Kiteruguma and because of Destiny Bond, Darkheart had to take it down and let itself faint so we could escape. Fortunately it wasn’t anything a good Sweet Apple Curry couldn’t fix. After a little bit more playing, our camp session was over. However, the time we spent in it gave YIYIYEE!!! enough motivation to evolve into Dreadnaw!! And oh boy, is she still as affectionate and playful as she was as a Chewtle. It’s honestly goofy just watching him walk around unaware of how much bigger he is compared to the other Pokémon.
Once we got to the bridge, we had a run in with the Team Yell guys who were harassing a guy with a bike. I already told you about Sarunori absolutely destroying these guys’ Zigzagoon but I didn’t tell you about the battle of endurance between Clover and Thievul. It took a lot of Draining Kisses and two Sweet Kisses but she was able to defeat it. We also had another battle against Hop whose Rookidee and Sobble has evolved. YIYIYEE!!! took Corvisquire down easily with Rock Tomb and Sarunori defeated Drizzile with one Branch Poke but Kiteruguma actually had a hard time taking down his Wooloo. It kept on spamming Defense Curl so basically we were just slowly chipping away at its health. In that regard, I have to say that Hop has definitely gotten stronger.

After some time away from the Switch, I went on to challenge the Hulbury Gym with Sarunori and Bolteleta with Kiteruguma and Darkheart as back up and Clover and YIYIYEE!!! for EXP. The gym maze was pretty fun and Sarunori was an absolute monster towards the Gym trainers’ Pokémon. Finally we were able to reach Nessa, the crowd cheering us on as we walked onto the field. Bolteleta went first. Nessa’s Goldeen was surprisingly tough with it’s Horn Attack but Bolteleta was able to defeat it with Spark. I switched it out and had Sarunori come out against her Arrowkuda, his Razor Leaf defeating it quick. Now it was time for Nessa’s ace Dreadnaw. I didn’t waste any time Dynamaxing Sarunori. Nessa Dynamaxed her Dreadnaw soon after. The tension in the stadium was thick; who would be faster? It was Sarunori; he outsped Nessa’s Dreadnaw with Max Overgrowth and knocked it out with one hit. The battle was over; Sarunori and I had won by a landslide. We hugged and celebrated with Salad Curry. After that, we stopped by the local seafood restaurant where Rose was waiting to talk with us. He was only able to talk with Sonia about her grandmother’s research when Oleana, his secretary (who is totally not evil by the way), said he had something important to attend so I decided to head off to Galar Mine 2. It surprises me how fast Croagunk are in this game, you look at them walk and then you suddenly have to run as they suddenly get up on your heels. Fortunately Sir Dinadin made quick work of it (even though I wanted to catch it...). That is how we encountered Bede again. He was as snooty as always but Sarunori was able to beat his Solosis easily with Knock Off and Musashi took down his Hattenna with ease and kept on dodging Gothita’s Rock Throw until finally defeating it with Bug Bite. It was when his new Galarian Ponyta came out that things got tricky. It’s confusion packed quite the punch but Musashi was able to tough it out and bring it down. That battle was enough for Bede to accept we had a little bit of talent and were a bit of a worthy opponent. He gave us his League card and walked away. After a quick trip to the Pokémon Center, I paused the game for the night.

Thus ended Day 3 of my Galar Adventure. Now onto Day 4!

I already caught all possible pokemon of my version (Shield). Now, I need to get all Sword's exclusive pokemon to complete my pokedex, and the others starters and their evolutions. I did also breed three pokemon with perfect IVs to build my Rain Team; so far, I've Goodra, Barraskewda and Pelliper. The next ones will be Ferrothorn, some special atacker (Dexit took Kingdra, so I need to find other special atacker), and some pokemon with Prankster. I'm really enjoying this game.

Postgame Travel Log cuz I'm bored.

I've put in a lot of hours since I beat the game, doing various tasks. I've actually still only briefly checked out the Battle Tower, but I've done a lot of other stuff. I've been working on Shiny Hunting Wooloo and Galarian Ponyta, Wooloo I'm using the Battle Encounter Method, and have battled around 375 Wooloos, and Galarian Ponyta I have hatched 450 eggs so far.

I am getting closer to completing the Pokedex. I am at 351. Most of the remaining Pokemon have annoying trade evolutions or are exclusive to Shield and I just haven't managed to see them yet in Surprise Trade yet, and then Zamazenta. I am getting closer to beating Shield though, so once I beat Shield and HOME comes out I can transfer some of these Pokemon.

In the quest to become the Champion of Fashion I have spent a lot of time just gaining money. I think I have enough now to buy out the rest of the stores, which I have actually never done in a Pokemon game.

I've been having more fun with Max Raid battles and did a ton last night and early this morning to try and get that Shiny Magikarp. I think I finally got mine around 3:30am or something.

I've developed a couple characters, set in the Galar universe, and I like having Wild Pokemon so high level that I can build these character's teams and actually be able to use them without training them up a bunch.

And that's just a summary of what I've been doing in Pokemon Sword.

Caught a Mawile and Weavile today, rounding out my Pokédex to 361, leaving me with just Milotic to catch as the last Pokémon I can get without trading (or hacking). Currently I am throwing Wishing Stars into dens in an attempt to get a Milotic raid.

You can find a Milotic on Wild Area. It has some spawn areas. I caught my Milotic on South Lake Miloch area, it just appeared in the river.

Unfortunately, the wrong weather is occurring in both locations where Miloric spawns.

You can change the today's date on the Switch Settings until you get the right one that matchs with your needed weather. I did it to catch all eeveelutions on the Lake of Outrage (changing the weather), and catch some pokemon like Sableye and Mimikyu (Dusty Bowl + Heavy Fog), Goomy and Drampa (Thunderstorm + Lake of Outrage).

Thanks so much!

So I’ve finally caught all possible Pokémon in Sword (hopefully), meaning that I now have 363 Pokémon registered in my Pokédex. I caught a Mimikyu, Milotic, and Escavalier today, the last three Pokémon I needed, as well as a Gmax Orbeetle with its hidden ability. Props to @ShieldFan who told me of the weather reset exploit and saved me a lot of time.

Now, if anyone knows how to get the other starters and version exclusive Pokémon without trading or hacking, I’d be set.

Alright, my runthrough of Pokémon Sword has gone to the point where I’m in the Wild Area. Started filling up the Pokédex early on by catching lots of Pokémon and sending them to the Boxes. I found a Brilliant Nickit, which I caught and sent to a Box, as well as a Brilliant Skwovet, which I also sent to a Box. My team is as follows (I don’t do nicknames). I forgot the levels...
  • Scorbunny
  • Gigantamax Meowth (I put it first in the party to serve as my catching ‘mon, thanks to Fake Out.)
  • Rookidee
  • Dottler
  • Chewtle
  • Ninjask (yes, I got lucky and found this level 15 one in the Wild Area via special overworld encounter. It has False Swipe, which is sure to come in handy.)
I tried a Max Raid Battle against a Minccino, but I could only battle with NPCs, since I didn’t get a Nintendo Online subscription, and all the NPC Pokémon got one-hit KOed, save for those with Focus Sashes. Needless to say, I lost the battle, and it wasn’t even my fault.

After that, I set up Pokémon Camp for my first time, and cooked spicy curry with a Cheri Berry. I got Wobbuffet Class, which I’m not sure if it’s good or not. My Pokémon certainly enjoyed it.

I haven’t gotten to the first Gym yet...

I don't think you can. That's why they're called version-exclusive Pokémon--you can only get them in one of the two paired games!
The gen 6 games had an exploit where you could obtain Pokémon via QR codes, meaning that you could obtain Pokémon not from your version without trading for them, though that has since been patched. I was implying something like that in my post.

No, sorry, not this time. You're stuck with the old trading route now to get the remaining Mons for the dex, as there hasn't been any sort of event, glitch, or QR code-like ability to pick up the slack. No, you're just gonna have to ask for some help from other players now, or buy the other version, either way there isn't any other method left.

Sorry for the double post, but I've been meaning to post my second Sword playthrough on my Switch Lite for some time now but kept forgetting (my main playthrough is on my regular Switch). So, might as well update what I've done in the past two days.

I started with Scorbunny (what a surprise) named Heatblast, caught a female Rookidee (now Corviknight) named Skye, traded over a mystery egg from my main Sword version that hatched into a Hawlucha who I named Skystrike, later caught a G-Zigzagoon name Noir, and caught a Wimpod name Courage in a Max Raid Battle. I beat Milo and Nessa very easily before I started grinding for Kabu, mainly to get both Courage and Noir the G-Linoone to evolve, the latter of which I was taking advantage of the plot-mandated nighttime event before Kabu's gym, mainly using the G-Stunfisks, as they provide good EXP at that stage. Ended up grinding a bit too much as I utterly creamed Kabu, while also evolving the newest member of the team, Dimmadome the G-Weezing, in the process.

Proceeded with all the story events afterward, watched Hop get a slice of humble pie shoved down his throat, thanks of Bede, beat the stuffing out of Hop later, and then battled Bea. She still remains my favorite Gym Leader of these games, and still proved to be a decent powerhouse, as her G-Max Machamp managed to survive D-Max Skye's Max Airstream, requiring two turns to beat him, something that the other Gym Leaders failed to accomplish. Watched Bede ruin the ruins, beat him to bits, watched Rose disqualify him (bye-bye, baddie, don't let the door hit you on the way out!), got more story bits and set off for the next Gym. Opal's Gym was cakewalk, as I either had Skye's and Skystrike's Steel Wing, Dimmadome's Sludge Bomb, or Heatblast's raw power. Opal herself wasn't difficult, though she did get a few licks in, but her G-Max Alcreamy was no match for D-Max Skye's Max Steelspike, winning the next badge. Escorted Opal to Hammerlocke where she "collected" Bede, fresh off of getting dumped by Rose, so he can endure Fairy boot camp and destroy whatever dignity he had left (something that I'm looking forward to). Dealt with story events and got to battle Hop, creaming him once again. Sorry, Hoppy, but you're not going to beat Leon, that's reserved for moi. That's where I stopped for the night.
