Maybe the reason we haven't seen Kalos or Alola is because they aren't in Go yet?
I don't think that would be the case, if only because it would take awhile for them to update Go to include both of those generations. It might be longer given the virus situation too. Even if that wasn't a factor, they usually update new Pokemon in Go through batches instead of everything all at once, so getting the seventh generation in Go will take at least another year, if not longer. Not to mention I think that limiting themselves to regions featured in Pokemon Go would be a weird restriction considering that the series' main gimmick is being a world tour of shorts and they've already gone to Galar a few times. Besides that, I think that the biggest reason why they haven't gone to Alola yet is simply because it's still too recent. SM ended back in November and it's only April. They probably want to spend time away from the region so that the audience has more time to miss it and for the return to ideally have more of an impact, especially when it would be a lot harder to write around any continuity nods from SM. I guess they could do it, but avoiding any established characters, especially Ash's Alola team and family, and dancing around the fact that Ash is the Alola Champion would be more jarring than having a COTD battling Ash instead of Lt. Surge.
I'm not as sure as to why they're avoiding Kalos though. The games, and by extension XY, are old enough to be considered nostalgic at this point in my opinion. Maybe they're saving it for something special.
