  • I had to word that explanation carefully in WYM, since, had I not, it would have appeared as though Cal had forgotten that Blazia was a country.
It's also the first of the two kanji that, combined, mean 'Japan' (or 'Blazia', in the Neptune and Poseidon-verses).
    :-| I expected as much.

If you write a capital 'E' and a lowercase 'L' close enough next to each other, they merge into the kanji 日, which means 'day' or 'sun/sunshine'. A prerequisite of daytime is the sun, and the sun is a huge fireball.
I'm still in awe at the Fridge Brilliance of El's (and Elizabeth's, technically) name, while I'm on the subject.
It's funny; even as King, I find it hard to envision El as a polyglot. He just doesn't seem the sort.
It kind of goes without saying that Ellie is fluent in High Blazian; under Herbert's rule or not, it's a requirement of any Blazian royal family to learn to fluency all three historic national languages of Blazia-- High Blazian, Latin, and, of course, English.
It's been so long I don't even remember.

Without my going and checking, I'd guess: just pick a direction and lead the way. After all, Ellie can read kana; Middy, despite being Poseidon Midnight, doesn't have a clue.
    E ndihem zjarr e ftohtë, s'mundem dot
Shpresën unë te ty e humba
    Zemëro, më ndihmo
    Të largohem se të dua
    Zjarr e ftohtë, lodhem kot
Jam aty në buzët e tua

Tretem aty, se ky shpirti im të ndjen!
