Two, actually; one for each version. But I've only relied on them when my starter is at a disadvantage. Burgh's Gym, for example. Ramón alone would have been toast had it not been for Steve.
And that's why I want to call it Steve. I'm coming up on Mistralton now, so I'm hoping Mr. McNameChange is there. Oh, and if you're planning on going through Chargestone Cave, bring plenty of Repels. Same goes for Castelia Sewers.
On the subject of the new Gyms, I really like how each Gym has its own unique remix of the first Gen V Gym theme (except Cheren's, which is just the standard theme, but being the only Gym to have that theme makes it unique). Castelia's mix reminds me immensely of Boggly Woods in TTYD, and Virbank calls the main theme of Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg to mind if only because it's a Spelling Song in which the letters that are sung don't actually sound like the word (Pokémon and Giant Egg, respectively) that's supposed to be sing-spelt. Such fun.
GOOD LAD.
Oh. I'd say, in that case, Sewaddle. Dual-type, is it not?
(Oh, and how far through are you? I've left off W2 just before entering the Virbank Gym so I could progress in B2, in which I've just beaten Clay. And I just love the remade Gyms (as well as the new ones, I guess). They outclass the original ones by so much. Especially Castelia's.)
Huh. Wherever possible, I've chosen whichever gender I feel more drawn towards chosing in my first version, then whichever gender I didn't chose first for my second version.
Black: Craig (Not only my surname, but also a name that has its roots in the Scots Gaelic word for 'rock'.)
White: Myfanwy (Come on. If the overabundance of the letter Y and the single vowel didn't give it away, it's a Welsh name.)
Black 2: William (I don't know about you, but for me, it was the first name that came to mind when trying to come up with something quintessentially English.)
White 2: Sinéad (And finally, considering it's pronounced nothing like how it's spelt, it can only derive from either Bulgarian, or Irish Gaelic.)
Each of my player characters are named in concordance with the four countries of the United Kingdom (with a bit of artistic licence for Northern Ireland, throwing it in together with the Republic of Ireland. Oh, well. They're both on the island of Ireland, so they're both Irish).
