  • Yeah. A character your audience can see him/herself as. But does that mean staying more minimal, or what?
    I've seen it work before. Watson was this to Sherlock Holmes.
    Takato from Digimon Tamers is apparently another example from my genre.
    Trying to establish "Audience Surrogate" without being totally sure how it works.
    My personalities in characters are kinda minimal, though. Sure, it keeps them from being marked "Mary Sue", but there's still room for improvement.
    Yet people don't seem to like lighter and softer (it's still going to wind up darker than Pokémon, but not by much)
    It's like Pokémon with gore, abusive parents, rape, suicide, nukes, and pretty much anything else bad you can think up. All with a cheery theme song at the start. Mind-scarring.
    Sure, I'm not going into those territories, but it still feels similar.
    My fic's ideas keep straying into its territory. It's so dark compared to Pokémon, I'm kinda scared to do that.
