I dunno. A lot of that stuff about the Tao trio sounds somewhat irrelevant to them and their story. Gamefreak definitely knows all about that philosophy and mythos but probably decided to not include some of it. It could kinda get in the way of what they wanted to do with the thematic and plot of Gen 5.
European dragons are just to go-to design so well gonna see a good deal of them. It's probably gonna be the same thing with the Fairy-type and girly fairies though it's still reasonable to expect deviations from that.
Last generation I think we got a pretty good variation of dragons with inspirations drawing from gargoyles, dinos, and hydras. And there's definitely more to the Tao trio than just stylized European dragons.
If you take the Dragon Egg Group into account we do have some decent variations of dragons.
That's kinda cool that they fall into so many categorizations and sub-categorizations despite just being fables from all over the world. I guess that's why Gamefreak felt it was a great idea to create a whole type for it!
