  • A bit. Sorry for the load. You asked a lot of questions and so I tried to address them all, each in depth.
As for when you know you've found your "favorite", I'll be honest and say I don't know. That's one of the things I'm trying to figure out. You can't just approach the subject so logically as you could with anything else, and you so you should regard to the rubric that I had up there with too much consideration--I don't do that at least. People change and the next day a person could be different than he was before. For example, the next day, I may learn how to swim and find that I enjoy swimming which would thus make rule d a little obsolete there.

I think you know when you have a "favorite" sort of the same way when you fall in love. You like it for what it is and there's something in your gut that tells compels you to like it even if you've got reasons to not like it as you start to see those reasons as trivial for one thing or another.
    d) It can't be water type: this is related to point B because irl, I'm not a huge fan of swimming. I suck at swimming. I drown a lot. This is also where Grass gets its unsatisfactory mark from me as I'm allergic to pollen. However, this is sort of offset by the fact that, for allergies, I get to wear a cool Sub-Zero Mortal Kombat mask: http://www.achooallergy.com/images/products/mask-gallery/respro-techno-front-large.jpg

    e) Am I good at using this type? How well can I exploit it? These questions are not as important than the rest and are really insignificant, but I still do consider them anyway, just to know where I stand as a Player/Trainer.

Essentially, the types definitely cut by the first four rubrics limit to what I really want to play. I'm playing with Grass right now because they're smart, have a relaxed disposition, are easy to raise irl, and aren't the best of the best or the worst of the worst either. I'm also most familiar with them.
    c) What are the Pokemon of that type? This is similar with part A, but slightly different. I'm not asking necessarily how the Pokemon behaves, but more like what does it value. Does it value style over brawn? Or is it brains over grace that we're talking about? Or cuteness? This is why I consider contest categories as they show me what the types care about. Some Rock types may not have the personality of someone tough and rugged, but their abilities and moves express the ideal of toughness and show me that they value being tough. In case you haven't noticed, I value smartness. Beauty and coolness come second. Cuteness and toughness come last. Thus, Pokemon such as Rock, Steel, Ground, Electric, and Fighting wouldn't do so well in this category. Ice, Fire, and Flying can be overlooked however as I had already mentioned that Beauty and coolness are alright on my list, but aren't my top picks.
    b) If the Pokemon world existed in real life, which type would you actually be using? I'd like to be practical and realistic about my ego here. I don't want to over-inflate myself with the idea that I'm a Dragon Master or King of Legendary Pokemon. I see myself as an ordinary player, no better than the average player, and in real-world cases where training Pokemon is looked at seriously and pragmatically, I would probably not go with Dragon types as they're notorious for being difficult to train and only the worldly or gifted could really master them. I simply don't see myself as that person.
someone's been trying to break into my property over the past few days :(
i got a mad sunburn while posting new signs on my fences. it hurts like mad D:
As for choosing what favorite Pokemon type I like, I take into consideration several factors:

    a) Is it compatible with my personality? I typically don't go for the dark, ghost, poison, or fire types as they're either too menacing or assertive to be someone like me. Fire is an exception though as the stereotype for them being hot-headed is subverted at times when they're used by timid trainers like Bianca/Bel or are timid like Cyndaquil.
Which brings me to why I'm currently messing around with Grass types. For one thing, their manageable. I seem to have a knack for using them better than something like Psychic or Ice. Secondly, I can play control with them whereas with rock and steel, though those types are great defensively, are not meant to inhibit your opponent and win through status afflictions, but rather with just brute force, which I'm not always a fan of.

Same goes with Psychic--too many aggressive types like Alakazam and Gardevoir. I find it that too much effort is put into engineering them to be perfect via breeding and EV training and not enough is emphasized in how you play them. When you have them on your team, your choices become more streamlined which is kind of too cut-and-dry for me, especially back in the days when you could teach Alakazam all three of the elemental punches.
Also, speaking of that, the reason why I propose such an idea as not battling the wild Pokemon is because of the new changes in experience distribution in the 5th gen games. For one thing, exp is now dictated by difference in Pokemon levels, the higher the level the opposing Pokemon was, the higher exp you'll receive. Secondly, they just plain give you lucky egg. That's amazing. Thirdly, I'm already quite adept at facing Pokemon 5-10 levels higher than me and while I have the type disadvantage. I can make it possible--as long as I'm using a grass type though, oddly enough (I can't seem to pull this off with other types, especially aggro Pokemon.; the only Pokemon I can do this with that aren't grass types are Umbreon and Ninetales and Audino).
And so, as I've said before, I like control because of how you have to think about solving problems that could compromise your team's defense. Sometimes, they're unsolvable. Other times, they're solvable but they're just plain difficult to pull off. I also like them for their versatility. A member of your team isn't always going to be able to solve all the problems you face if he's aggro, but toxic can hit all types except steel and poison, which leech seed can hit those (worst case then would be grass/poison types and grass/steel types). So, in general, my Whimsicott is in good shape for some action. However, it is not expected either that my opponent will simply let my scrawny Pokemon toxic/seed his team and so I have to play around offensive strategies a lot, and that's where the fun starts for me. Because I'm doing something that's sort of counter-intuitive to my opponent's plays, I'm having fun by playing and thinking differently in a way that puts a new spin on the game for me.
A good match for me is like the one I had earlier today where my opponent knocked out one of my grass types with an Emboar and started spamming on the Heat Crash attack, but then I countered with my Whimsicott. Though my whimsicott couldn't set up subseed, what I did was spam on substitute while he used heat crash and got him exhaust all PPs for that move. I then used toxic as a dying effort for my Whimsicott and sent in Ferrothorn to just wait until the effects of toxic took hold as the opposing Pokemon ran out of available moves to give it the edge over my grass types and the rest were physical moves which gave Ferrothorn's rocky helmet and iron barbs ability the fuel to faint it in less 4 turns or so. My opponent tried switching out, but that wasn't so great either as it gave my Ferrothorn a chance to curse into a gyro ball ftw and sweep his team.
And I don't do complete drawn out stall like Chansey/Blissey wall, but something a bit faster than that. It's more of a midrange speed than fast aggro or slow stall.

I don't like matches where almost nothing happens for forever (I had one of those matches today with a friend whose audino and my amoongus simply did not do anything because my opponent kept resting and my amoongus was simply not getting enough damage across as its accuracy dropped significantly and was attracted).

I also don't like matches where OHKOs run rampant either unless it involved some clever play with stage-leveling moves and etc. Otherwise, OHKO matches look more like "I have better Pokemon than you" games, and it's not all too exciting to watch then.
Playing aggressively is already challenging enough I'd say. Especially in Pokemon, where tempo matters a lot. The game is designed with you making a move and your opponent making a move back and forth, and so to actually win, your moves have to somehow count as more than just one move so you win by doing more than and outplaying your opponent.

I don't like games that draw out too long and I don't like games that are too short either. For me, a good game should last about 15 minutes. 20 minutes is fine, but that's actually asking for a little too much.

Secondly, I don't necessarily play complete stall. For one thing, as I've said, I like to exploit as many aspects of grass types as I can, and so I don't go for subseeding all the time. In fact, I only have one Pokemon that does subseed and the rest of them doing other things.
    my apologies, I mis-characterized you.
