My advice would be to work on the novel on the side, like you said, then worry about what you're gonna do after you publish your first novel when the time comes. That's probably a long way off yet, so you can just cross that bridge when you come to it. In all likelihood, your life will have changed so much by that point that there's no point in trying to plan for it now.

No, that's certainly not impossible, many successful authors have done that. However, most of them either give up their career to write novels, or don't publish many novels after that.
