  • It all depends on how horrible you want to be to your character, and why. If you feel it's necessary to repeatedly ruin him over and over again, then go for it. Just bear in mind that if you do it too much, your readers will become desensitised to it and the final screwing won't have as much impact. A good screwing-over comes after a long period of peachiness. Then again, if you can manage to keep screwing him over and topping yourself each time, by all means go ahead.
    Yes, but as the author, it is my duty to be a monumental dick to my characters from time to time. This may be one of those times.
    Yeah, rest assured, that will be the last thing to happen. I might go on to chronicle what he does afterwards, but a) it will be a separate fic, and b) I promised I'd write a prequel first.

    Yeah, they will. There's still the issue that Salinthia mentioned: Soon, the Soul Bonds won't be strong enough to last a full day while the yehktira is awake, and so they'll need to basically kidnap Ren and keep him in the world of dreams. I hope it never comes to that, for Ren's sake. ^_^;;;
    Well, yeah. The story will continue until Ren loses his title, however long that may take. It may be just one year, or it may be ten years (probably not). I've already decided that that's going to be the last chapter.

    Yeah, except in my case it'd be more like 'nothing happens today. SKIP. Nothing happens this day either. SKIP IT.' At the moment, I'm doing my best to fill up every day with interesting things for Ren to do - the trip to Rustboro, meeting Cole, the Feather Carnival in Fortree, the Contest in Mauville, the tag battle tournament in Slateport. Otherwise it'd just be a big string of nights in the world of dreams. But I want to keep focusing on Ren's growth as a character, even after this world of dreams arc finishes. And he probably won't stop going to the world of dreams either, because until they find a solution to the fast-degrading Soul Bonds, the yehktira is still gonna need to come in every night. So that might have to be the next objective after the ten days.
    Two months, basically. It starts early December and finishes in early February. Probably more like seven weeks all up.

    Well, the pace is definitely on the rise. There's a climax of sorts approaching with Nekros' 'ten days' deadline and the Unova League (and I still haven't forgotten about the Steven and Ren vs Cynthia and Alder double battle). I can't say too much about that, but for better or worse, there will be some kind of stability regarding the world of dreams after that. (That could be a bad thing, though.) But what that means is that the fic won't need to be quite so slow-moving. I'll be able to skip a few days here and there.

    Some fics just naturally lumber along a little bit in order to get their story told. Often it's a bad thing, but I hope it works with CG. YMMV on that, of course, but I think it's relatively successful.
    I swear to god if this goes into another "Have you read it? Post a review. Instrutilus, post a review! Why haven't you posted a review yet?" thing, I'm gonna stop reading Pokémon Academy. I've read it and I'll review it in my own good time.
    Well, I prefer not to take shortcuts with those sorts of things. I like seeing the backstory if there is one, so I'll try to read Dragon's Roar first.

    And Champion Game's not really a fic that focuses on the action. It's a slower-paced fic. In that battle with the nightmares, the focus was on the politics rather than the battle itself. In other places, the focus is on the action. But overall, the pace is definitely slower. I mean, the story started on a Saturday night, and twenty-seven chapters later, it's only Tuesday evening. Some fics work faster, others don't.
    It's fine :) Would you mind reviewing the latest chapter of AWOF, "Ferry" please. I think it is one of the most powerful things Ive ever written, and would definitely love some feedback on it.
    Hm... Sure. You can be a member of Crimson. PM or VM Musashi, and she should be able to add you to your forum. Oh, and don't forget to let your leader know that I've accepted you.
    I'd rather read Dragon's Roar first, though. I'll look at that when I have a goodly amount of time.

    I'm just on a writing binge this month for NaNoWriMo, and especially this week. I now have a three-chapter backlog, woohoo! Not to mention that some of them are really long compared to my earlier ones. Which means that Champion Game is now 243 pages (111,055 words) long! :O
    Because I'm trying to send you the PM replay, but all I'm getting is this message that your Inbox is full.
