Hey, don't worry, I'm still gonna be around for some time yet. I'll be sure to still post one shots too. And I'll make them 10x the quality of any one shot I've posted before to make up for the lack of series.
Anyway, if I get my novel published then I'll be your biggest rival yet =P
I presume the story is going to start with Reggie doing something. (Even if that is after the prologue)
All you need to do is write the thing normally, without going out of your way to mention Chigon and then, when Chigon is naturally mentioned:

Reggie looked to his faithful partner, Chigon.
'You ready, boy?'
The small white Pokemon barked in response. Chigon was not a normal Pokemon. In fact, his own one was the only one that Reggie had ever seen or heard of. He had first met Chigon during his first year at Pokemon Academy when...

I don't know the ins and outs of Dragon's Roar so some of tha tmight be inaccurate but you get the jist.
Just write it as if the first one doesn't exist as a pre-existing story.
In other words, when Reggie, Chigon or any of the other characters are first introduced in MoD make sure to explain their backstory and where they come from.
Also, make sure that whenever you mention MoD you say "You don't need to have read teh first one to understand it"
