Ummmmmm...I didn't exactly think you'd do that, but whatever works, I guess. The point was that you just shouldn't take it seriously. In HG/SS, things got really weird really fast, to the point where the Big Bad Evil GUy is a dude who disguises himself by covering his face in bees and one of the main characters is a guy who lives in a bathtub and gets killed a lot, but always comes back. Anyway, I digress, you might want to maintain veto power (But use it sparingly)the first few days, so players know what your expectations are. Just keep them on a tighter leash than usual while you learn each player's style, and give them freedom accordingly. For example, for one player, he was kind of a jerk starting out, God modding all the time. I gave him a lot less freedom than the others, simply because he didn't do well with it when I did. But then he got better, so I gave him a second chance, and he's now one of my best friends.
See, that's the point of not letting them directly help characters. So no making character's the chosen one, etc. Anyway, if they actually introduced something totally foreign, like demons in a pokemon RP, then I'd tell them to stop. But if you blow up over something little, like double posting, or having their character do something that makes yours look dumb, it makes you look kinda petty. As a general rule, if you're to quick or too harsh with reprimands, players just want to rebel. The name of the game is not too let your emotions get in the way, and ask if it's really worth fighting over and cluttering the thread with OOC posts.
I find that players are actually super cooperative if you give them free reign, and it's a lot less work. In HG/SS for example, I let them control NPCs and events as much as they want, as long as they don't use it to directly help their characters, and they ask me before using legendaries or gym leaders or characters like that. I;ve left it alone for weeks, and find that they've just made their own plots, it's absolutely beautiful. Just don't sweat the small stuff, it's usually more trouble than it's worth. Also, the less GMPCs participate in RPs, the better. After all, if there's this GMPC running around and fighting battles the other players can fight, that means less fun for the players. That, and it's pretty easy to get carried away and end up making your character to powerful.
Well, I try to make it a game to see how flawed I can make my characters, and still make them likable. It adds a lot of depth. Kind of like a game of chicken. Eliot's weird and kind of a perv (Though it's subject to interpretation whether he actually believes all the chivalry stuff he says or is just trying to get in a girl's pants.), and he;s very long winded. And Evan's sarcastic and a tiny bit evil and I try to make him a tiny bit scary, in a funny way. Also, you take this place waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy to seriously. It's just a game. Stop caring, and just enjoy the ride.
Want to know what I think your problem is? You may not like what I have to say.
Lessee...In order of favorite to least favorite (Though I like them all): Tengenn Toppa Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Code Geass, Yu Yu Hakusho, Death Note, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Lucky Star, Soul Eater, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, Bleach, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Pani Poni Dash.
Yet you never said that. Besides, it could just as easily be said you argue with me, such as that time you said Ed was too powerful and tried to get me kicked from Daze. Anyway, if you want things to happen, you should go out and get them done. I didn't complain when this started and nobody went out of their way to talk with my character: I went to them.
By the way, I think it's kind of ironic that we're so similar, and yet fight so much, don't you agree? I'd even say it was fate, if I believed in that stuff. We're similar age, we both like anime, and we both have similar levels of experience, and our share of followers.
