If you are finding yourself unable to log in, you should be able to fix the issue by following the following process.
1. Close all browser tabs with any part of Bulbagarden open.
2. Delete all Bulbagarden.net cookies (and if possible, any cached site data for Bulbagarden) from your browser.
3. Close and reopen your browser, open a new tab, and log into the forums on the new tab.

thanks, I am still learning how things work, I only realized today that message that pops up after clicking "add to friends" was asking to confirm that I wanted to send request, not to inform me that the request was sent. certainly explained why none of my earlier request had not been answered. what surprised me is that when for a thread with a certain topic that I wanted to give my ideas to, I ended up have to make it my self.
