Actually I would see it as fitting xD Obata and Ohba made it clear that they originally planned for Death Note to only have one part with a different ending but they were pushed by the editors to go with a second part, then when ratings started to lower they had to change the way they would approach the final confrontation between Light, Near and Mello cause the editors thought it could be bad.
Hell apparently they were originally planning on having Light live and have Ryuk kill him when he was too old...only for him to be sent to the Shinigami world and suffer through the very great punishment of going through all the same deaths he had all the people he killed go through until his spirit vanishes.
Also another thing that's funny is that Death Note finished before it's anime, the anime had only been announced a few issues before its conclusion really.
Maybe xD but man Mashiro sure is persistent.
The thing is that compared with Death Note, Bakuman hasn't exactly reached that level, hell it's still not completely known internationally and it hasn't even gotten a dub.
