    Why shouldn't?

But following something means you perceive this thing to be a thing with answers and a thing with authority, don't you agree? hence why I said it is the doctrine of the heart ( metaphorically) and the doctrine of human instincts (literally). Atheist do not to commit murder (for example), because it is the right thing to do according to their hearts and according to the instincts of humanity same why as why religious people would commit the same murder and not because the religion says no. Again,I believe that religion helps to define to the moral system and to make it clearer and more objective. And I am glad that we agree.
so you are advocating that atheism is somewhat passive in comparison to religions, if I got that right. That's a good question. And the answer is something you have already answered yourself. Following the heart! You would also understand that more by looking up the definition if faith and lets not forget the most important factor: logic. This is especially important to me because I study medicine and it dazzles me when I read about how amazingly well structured the human body is, and in the Qu'ran it says that humans were made in the best way. {Of course answering this question fully, would need countless VMs, but I believe you get the idea}.

    Yup!! :p I'm full of surprises :3

Thanks. that means a lot. Well, I'm glad that you clarified that. Since it is you who thinks that then I understand. But, religions do not make us stop looking for answers! They actually want us to constantly look up for them. They simply help us start looking.
Well, fair enough. I have to say that you are really an open-minded atheist. And I really respect that about you. Btw, I have many friends who are atheists and agnostics.
Either way, I feel like this lovely discussion has come to an end, since I believe we have both gotten some answers and clarification. Thank you for being a great converser and now I gotta crash,I'm so sleepy :< Goodnight.
Oh, and an other thing. Just because someone is religious/ faithful/ Muslim/ Christian etc that and by no means mean they are perfect and good. No one is perfect and many religious ppl do the most horrible of deeds that are simply atrocious and I do not condone them at all. Remember, that religions might be perfect but their followers are obviously not.
    ( continued)

Ah, again, I was not aiming this at you. I was simply trying to explain my way of thinking. And yes, I fully respect and understand your point of view ( I hope that you believe me when I say I respect your beliefs, because I really do and that I do not just say that because it is the right thing to say). But, my other question to you is...why would you consider a deity..an omnipresent and omniscient one existence to be too easy? An immaterial god that is not bound by the limits of time and space makes sense to be the thing that created everything. contrary to popular belief, religions and especially Islam are not contrary to science. Qu'ran ( the holy scripture of Islam) mentions that the universe is expanding. Science has proved that th universe is indeed still expanding. It also continues numerous scientific facts that have all been proven by modern science. Things about embryology, pain receptors, mountains, clouds, the origin of all living things from water..etc
I would understand your stance even more if you have researched every single religion before attesting that believing a god is too easy. That is how I feel.

Yeah, I got that, but it still does not answer my question. if someone finds what they are looking for in something, then why not accept it? Accepting something does not mean you have yo relinquish other things. I was born Muslim, but I stayed muslim because I want to. I researched it a lot and got the answers that satisfied my mind and my heart. To me it is not just a leap of faith, but also a logical thing.
Ah, first of all..allow me to clarify something. My question was meant to be philosophical and rhetorical. I was asking you that question to make a point and not to get an answer. I fully acknowledge that atheist and agnostic people can do not only good things, but amazing things to the humanity. My question was more about what makes them do that or what makes them feel obliged to do that. You answered because of the heart and that is a satisfying answer, because it enforces the point I wanted to make in the first place. Following their hearts means following a doctrine. The doctrine of humanity. Since we agree ( I believe) that human beings are imperfect, then who to say that the heart always tells the truth a its fullest? I do not do good things because religion/ Islam/whatever tell me to, I do it because it is the right thing to do. religion simply helps us get an objective systems of morals. so in other words, religion works as a textbook that show us the right way, the way that we already want to follow because it is the right thing to do.

I'm a Greek cypriot...among other things :p ( but that is a story for later).
Hmmm well, let me put it this way. What kind of thing do the people who are without a belief ( atheists or agnostics..etc) use in order to be good people? What gives them morality and ethics? how would they define the acceptable?
So I'm confused now. Did you think that I was a Turkish Cypriot or not? And I'm not. Just in case I was not clear.

And I think that this is a good thing. But, if I may say I can't find it in my heart to go through this life thinking that I have no purpose or that I was created by chance due to the big bang. I obviously respect the people who think that and I understand their reasoning.
Here is where I'm losing you. culture = religion and I do not understand your stance against being part of a religion. So if you could elaborate :)

Was. I dislike this thing now. Too much ear hair o_O
