  • The thread would get off topic if we continued our conversation there, but you say there are many instances where the movies and anime don't follow each other, yet you don't provide any evidence for such a claim.

Aside from minor inconsistencies you noted that exist within the series itself, there's more evidence for movies being canon, unless you can find specific instances in which they directly contradict what was set forth by the anime. The anime itself goes further in confirming the existence of movies into canon. First, there's the first movie, with scenes from the movie regarding Mewtwo's escape and the following aftermath not only being shown in the anime, but also influencing Ash's battle for his final Kanto badge.

There's also the multiple references to Aura Guardians and Ash's proficiency in aura whenever there is a Lucario/Riolu-centric episode.

LaRousse City, a location introduced in the movie, is also the home town of May's Rival, Drew.

The entire fourth movie was basically an excerpt from Oak's life

Now here is your evidence that the series supports its movies. Where is your evidence that movie canon directly contradicts anime canon? Unless there is a direct contradiction, you cannot say that movies are noncanon, especially when faced with the above evidence.
