  • I think I've answered to these questions, directly or indirectly. If maybe to clear up something, I don't think Episode N can't be well-made (at least in comparison to previous incarnations of the show), I'm just saying that if the movie is linked with the show one way or another, it will be more interesting. Be it through Genesect or something else, it doesn't really matter; it's just that Genesect is the obvious (and more or less, confirmed) way right now. For what it's worth, something related to Generation VI could be revealed (or be hinted at, like another Legendary Pokémon) mid-season and be featured in the movie as well.

In a nutshell, I'm tired of the repeated policies and the predictability the series has come to, and hoping for more consistency, a little bit of independance, and quality filtering through the series' media. That includes the manga as well. We don't need so many adaptations; even ReBurst is preferable (as a different, albeit weird creation) over the dozens of adaptations we see in each generation. Now, I realize the series is primarily designed with smaller ages in mind -- who don't care about the brand's overall quality or whatsover -- but I can't help but wish it would mature up a little. :p
"Would you have liked it if Lost's climax had been reserved for a movie? Why does Episode N need Movie 16 to tell a good story?"

If that was the only way of it being well-made, I would. You do raise a good point by asking why that can't be done in the show, but it can in the movie though.

For one reason, it's the format. Pokémon isn't important enough for TV to be given a special slot in TV to air 4-5 new episodes back to back (roughly the length of a movie), and since the show is directed towards children, they usually think about it very much before breaking episodes into so many parts. Also, do note that the whole arc will have more than 20 episodes, many of which will be fillers. A regular fan won't be able to enjoy the story, simply because they won't be bothered to watch it hacked into 25 or so episodes -- even if the climax is 2-3 episodes, it will still feel less independant (in contrast to a movie). Furthermore, movies tend to have much better animation, and much, much better direction; it's not just a matter of the story -- a film would naturally feel, look, sound and appeal better. You can't compare the budget (nor the hype) 4-5 episodes have, with that of the movies either; and the writers would also probably be more motivated to write a script for a film that will almost certainly perform well, rather than for a show taken for granted for over 15 years.

All in all, movie format is better -- and as history has proven, when the movie's plot is also not "out of place", as usual, it also feel more focused, more relevant, more premium.

Now, as for whether "Genesect is interesting". Well, that's another topic. I would argue that there have been interesting Pokémon not given justice and less interesting ones whose movies weren't too bad, but I'd probably force myself to think about it very much (as it's not too valid a point). I'll have to agree that Genesect isn't very interesting. That said, the movie itself can be decent despite that.
I hope the climax of Genesect is settled in the Movie. Beggars can't be choosers; let's face it, the show is pretty poor plot-wise, and making an effort to tell a relatively interesting story -- even if that means charging for it through the upcoming movie (which would be released anyway) -- is anything but bad. To be honest though, I still think the main attraction of Episode N will be the Unova Dragons. Genesect may be alluded more than Mewtwo in Season 1, but it will most likely be more of a "side-plot". N appearing in Movie 16 would also be a pleasant surprise (that is, if you told me that last year); I don't care for other Plasma members do appear either. And well, Generation VI elements will obviously be present. Now, will they be Donphan-like rather than Zoroark-like element? I guess that remains to be seen. But as we've agreed before, maybe Genesect itself could be of a relation with Generation VI with potential, so, there are options.

By the way, do you think Mewtwo is just another midlead? Is it possible that it will for whatever reason appear in the movie's poster alongside Genesect next week?
I'm surprised that you seem to want Movie 16 to promote Generation VI. I'm indifferent about that at most. While I know promotion most certainly has a positive effect on the upcoming games, I'd rather they kept it minimal. For one thing, just the fact that they might have been unsticking from common practices it's good for the series. I know, there's not much (in the game) that would change if the anime became more independant -- perhaps just a placebo effect in common opinion -- but hey, it would make the anime much better; perhaps even give them the nerve to do something actually worthwhile with the anime (be it a less boring sequel, a non-pointless new series, or even a game universe-set side story -- or heck, the best of all, a high-budget, all-original Pokémon movie).

My point is; it's not just Pokémon games that suffer from staleness. The whole franchise and every side of it is reluctant in change. If TPC is stepping up their game, who knows? Today it's this, maybe tomorrow it will be actually quality filtering licenced media or even making an effort in sectors other than the games (and music; music is always classy).
That's odd. Seems like a large stretch for all of Genesect, Rayquaza and Mewtwo to all be in the show this coming season. Hm, I just don't see Genesect carrying the whole movie itself though - definitely should be a Gen VI Pokemon involved in there. Since we should get the first title and poster for the movie, hopefully there will be something that alludes to another Pokemon being revealed in the next few months that will be the main star of the movie.
... what the? I guess Eevee could still evolve otherwise but it seems less likely now. Best Wishes has by far been the worst Pokemon anime ever, and I just can't wait for this generation to be over with. The new N saga has extreme potential, but I'm not getting my hopes up and those who are may be sorely disappointed. Im curious about the random Rayquaza merch that's being released, do you think it may have a role in Movie 16 then? It seems random to me. I really hope Mewtwo has a prominent role in the N saga.
Episode N is literally the first time Ash's quest is not battle-oriented, isn't it? Interesting. I guess that's good for the anime fans. Even if the arc isn't anything too original or unique, it will be something new to the anime.

It's a bit naïve to expect the game not to be battle oriented though... Battles has always been the motive of the hero's adventure, and I don't think this will even change. To be honest, I don't think it should change. It's not an obstacle they have exceed to make a good plot; it's one of the core - prevalent features of the game, and they might as well use it to their advantage.

Now, should the badges return? Arguably, the checkpoint-kinda plot device is way too comfortable and pleasant to the player to get rid of; however, I'll have to agree that having the player aim to become the League Champion could easily be substituted with something else. Again, having eight (or nine? ten?) bosses in some sort of similar (preferably unofficial) position -- and perhaps giving some kind of reward to the player, but them not necessarily being Gym Leaders. If anything, this would be too interesting, and it would enable the writers to make a plot that doesn't have predetermined or necessary elements.

Think of it this way: I bet that in Generation I, they first wrote the game's basic story and then came up with a mechanism that gives players the sense of progress. So, the story's elements blended together nicely. In Generation II, working the way to become the League Champion felt much more secondary to me, but it again blended uniquely with the story. From then on, it felt like the League was the goal on itself, rather than a plot device; probably with the exception of BW, but BW had other problems (namely, how linear the game's progress was). I argue that for once, they should first write the basic story and then decide on something similar to the Gyms that fits the structure of the game.
I also thought of the possibility of Episode N dealing with Genesect, and M16 being something completely different. With the poster showing Genesect that seems possible, but it's also possible (to be honest, most likely) that Episode N won't be dealing with Genesect, so, Movie 16 doesn't have to be the climax of Episode N (which will probably be Zekrom vs. Reshiram, or something Kyurem-related). I mean, much like there were just "hints" of Mewtwo in the original series, they can handle Genesect likewise.

To be honest, I'd prefer that. Leaving aside any marketing causes in M16 (which I don't really care about), if the show was somehow connected to the movie, it would naturally make a better plot. Now, is there high chance of this happening? We'll see... For what it's worth, even realistically seeing it, they might as well combine Gen VI promotion with the Genesect plot. Something totally random, as usual -- it doesn't matter. :p
I don't think four consecutive episodes are recorded. From what I understood, they record once every week - always being one month ahead. I may be wrong though, I've just never heard that they are all recorded at once (especially the fact they do quite a few segments outside the studio too).

I hope if we do get a spin-off game that it steers away from the typical gimmicky stuff we have gotten in the past like Ranger or Dash. I want some sort of stadium-like game on the 3DS. The 3DS is advanced enough to do that so it would be a nice change from those lame gimmicky games.
I don't think we'll really receive anything Gen VI related this month. It makes more sense marketing-wise to reveal Gen VI in the new year like they did with Gen V. I don't see why they would do it any different. I think Jump Festa will just be related to some spin off game. I am interested in Masuda's Q&A though, but will not get my hopes up for any hints as he easily may dodge any questions in relation to future games if he is answering them from his Twitter account. Hopefully Coro Coro will foreshadow something about a new Pokemon reveal though in regards to Movie 16.
That's really odd. I'll try again:

Masuda tweeted that he recorded Smash today. If timing from past recording is right, then this should be the first episode to air in the new year at the beginning of January.. interesting, is it not?

Translated version: Chu got home from dinner now! ! ! I was a busy day wonderfully Well, today I was tired and now meeting at 3:30 am, meeting, recording Pokesuma [= Pokemon Smash], meetings, dinner! ! ! Everyone, Do Sai Good night! ! !"

It was odd they really didn't make a proper Genesect event in the games at all, like Jirachi pretty much. I'm really sick of event only Pokemon, and Im sick of having to trade through a plethora of games to have to get them all. Its so frustrating at times.
I like that it seems they are bringing legendaries into more prominance in the anime. Id be very excited to see Mewtwo again. It really does seem odd for Genesect to be in both Movie 16 and have a role in the anime too at the same time which really makes me believe that Genesect may not be featured in the movie at all and it may just be a Gen VI Pokemon. A new trailer for movie 16 should be released this month anyway, right?
i hadn't thought about it much, but he is also getting quite a bit of merch in spring. i think it could mean everything, or be random and mean nothing. we'll wait and see i guess, but usually if it appears on anime merch it'll be in the anime. i'll get a pamphlet and mention it.
Wow, what a lackluster and generic title. I totally agree, everything in the franchise is just disappointing me lately. I don't understand how some say Gen V is their favorite, it's actually one of my least favorites. I really enjoyed B/W and B2W2 while actually playing through them but I never found a game to be so boring post-league than the Gen V games. That had absolutely nothing to do, in B2W2 after you go to the post-league areas there's really nothing to do but the PWT which gets boring after a while. I just want Gen VI to hurry up and be here and hope that they utilize the 3DS to really give us a lengthy main AND post game.
I'm still annoyed over the Eevee thing. I'm just looking forward to Masuda's Q&A and hope that someone will ask a good question in relation to future games, it'd be disappointing if no one asks, but then again he may just be extremely vague in his answer and not give anything away.
