  • Reshiram and Zekrom will probably appear as well, but in more secondary roles. I'm also very glad about Ho-Oh and Lugia. Because of BW releasing so soon after HGSS, HGSS didn't receive too many spin-offs (basically, just Ranger 3, I think), so, we didn't have too much Ho-Oh and Lugia action. After all, Reshiram and Zekrom were featured in similar roles in PokéPark 2.

I also had no idea about that fossil thing Zagger made. Indeed, it would make a whole lotta sense if he was involved with Genesect. I bet the anime writers haven't even though about it (perhaps they didn't even notice the fossil-time-machine thing that was generated by they random plot generator), but I hope they surprise us with something that makes sense.
I read you speculation on Team Rocket and Kanto. I think there's at least some chance this might be happening. I'm kind of reluctant on the Genesect thing (I wouldn't really mind it, but I doubt it would appear on a Kanto saga) -- but then again, if they move to Kanto afterwards M16 will be in Kanto anyway (or rather "some place in Kanto", as usual). But in any case, that would be interesting to see.

By the way, there is some rather big Eevee focus lately (and I'm glad to see "downloadable missions" in some form -- they might be taking baby steps, but they're closing in to the vision of what I had in mind for the 3DS games). That makes me think more and more that we will see some new Eeveelutions in Gen VI. That's great, I'm getting curious on what they will be.

Incidentally, I wonder if Ash will ever get an Eevee, and what that would evolve into. If that happens in the Kanto saga (on which Gary will obviously be present) we might finally see Red's Espeon's anime counterpart. The reason (besides the obvious "Red has an Espeon") could well be the writers making another parallel between Gary and Ash -- and Gary does have an Umbreon. Of course, if that doesn't happen in Kanto (or, more likely, Ash received an Eevee in Kanto, but doesn't evolve it just yet), then it will probably evolve into one of the new evolutions. That is, unless the anime doesn't end after the Kanto saga, to be replaced with a game canon side-story series).
I received my cartridge yesterday and I shortly began my adventure. I'll probably be rather slow this time around...

On an unrelated note, have you played Klonoa's GBA outing? NintendoLife made a retro review and it seems like an excellent 2D platformer.
I doubt the Kanto eps on that BW DVDs mean much, I figured it was just cause BW tried to "copy" gen 1
Charizard appearing will probably happen if Ash does return to Kanto for another journey... not sure how I feel about that (I like Chari, but I feel like it returned to help more than enough... I'd rather see some others come to help)
As for Plasma - maybe you're right, though I won't be surprised if they did intend to do more with them and were forced to change plans, if not even skip more eps that were already made with them that we didn't know about...
And for Dogasu... he'll probably get proved wrong soon enough anyway come 2013 and TRio's return to the show... there's still a little chance he'll be right though and we'll get proved wrong if they won't appear at all... it's really hard to predict, but right now I'll stick to the idea that they'll return to do something after the Unova League (which I'm still finding it very hard to think of what Ash could do then, wether that's in Kanto or wherever)
After I watched the last ep - I can be sure when I say this would be the lamest ending TRio could get... I'm sure they'll appear again later on BW
I'm still not sure what I'd think of a third Kanto journey, but I guess that's possible... as for Mewtwo - I did like the idea of some Mewtwo VS Genesect plot... but I'm not sure how likely that is... I think Genesect will just get a minor role in the next movie which will star a gen 6 Poké
Both male and female protagonist appear as the main characters in different occasions in each quiz book, I think. Just like their starters Pokémon aren't standard and (I believe) they aren't referred by name.

How awesome would it be if one of the questions of the HGSS Quiz Book was "Which is the female character of HGSS?", and the possible answers included some random character, Lyra and none other than Kris? I'm going to assume this isn't the case, or else it would probably have been scanned as soon as someone saw it back in the "Is Lyra a redesigned Kris?" era.
While it is a forced Movie 13 reference no question, they do have some unique relevance to the story (albeit it not making so much sense). But I guess I'll wait to see what Zoroark does in B2W2. Incidentally, at least other canons are a good way of utilizing the shiny forms of each Pokémon. I really liked Black Rayquaza in Conquest. That couldn't exist in the main series, but the "cameo" appearance in them regardless, through Conquest, was a nice gimmick.

By the way (totally irrelevant, but totally fun), this blog has amazing artwork that has appeared in official books through the years. Although most probably aren't by established Pokémon artists like Sugimori (or they may be, I haven't crossed check -- I'm sure some of them must have been involved in the Card Game), some of these are priceless. Specifically the old, RGBY-era 4komas and everything from the quiz books that come with every release since DP (or Platinum, not sure) are pure gold. Unfortunately nothing of Leaf of Kris has been posted (or at least tagged) yet...
By the way, have you though of putting an effort to explain the origin of the Crown Beasts? If waiting for the Sinjoh Legends to be revisited is uncertain (and tiring), waiting to see how Crown Beasts came to be is an absolutely dead cause.
Hard to say... As far as the non-Legendary ones are concerned, I think Kris should definitely have one of the starters. It's basically confirmed in HGSS, after all. I always imagined her to be a Meganium user (just as much as I think Typhlosion fits Ethan and Feraligatr Silver). I also think she should own one (evolved form?) of the baby Pokémon. Although the event was carried over in HGSS through Pikachu-colored Pichu, there is still things to adapt from that event, like the other possibilities and the fact that the Pokémon is not always shiny. Furthermore, the Japanese event is a bit different (closer to the HGSS one), so, there is some different origin that could be used. For some reason, I think Smoochum would be likable, but maybe I'm just used to it from Special.

Now, for Legendaries... I don't think there's any need to include the Creation or the Lake trio. Personally, I really like the latter (much more than the former), but I'm not sure if there's need to see them. Merging them into matter and spirit is a good idea, however. Arceus is indeed inevitable (but doesn't necessarily have to be key). If it appears, I'd rather it's not associated at all with any of the Johto Legends (besides Unown). It might also be a good idea to add some neutrality in the relationship between it and the Unown, as if to say that it is more connected to the Unown than the Unown are to it (but I'm not sure how you feel about this). Other Legendaries should obviously include the Legendary Beasts (especially Suicune), and perhaps references to the Tower Duo (if you decide to associate the GS Ball Pokémon to the burning of Brass Tower).

So, I think the most important Legendary appearances should be of Celebi, Arceus, and the Legendary Beasts, and starting from them, you could use some references too. A couple of new local myths could also be used, obviously.
1:1 sounds fine, actually. I also like your idea about evolution, if only because it's so different that it would indeed be interesting to explore.

If Dunsparce got an evolution, I'd rather it's not a Dragon-type. It's interesting that it is a snake that is a Normal type, so, I think I would like it better if it evolved into a Normal/Poison-type Pokémon, which would be pretty unique. It would also make sense, because Dunsparce is so weak; and at the same type a non-poisonous snake. If it evolved into a more fearsome snake (that doesn't go off-concept either), it might make sense to give it the Poison-type in addition to its original type, if to remind its upturn as well as its origin. Also, gameplay-wise, a Poison-type that would be able to STAB Normal moves and be unaffected (noneffective) from (to) Ghost-types would be rather interesting.

In fact, any Normal/Other-type Pokémon would be interesting... That combination is so lacking, besides in Flying-types.
So, an ecosystem of over 150 "Pokémon", which would include (some) existing ones "camouflaged" as the creatures you'd be referring to. It's not hard to see, but it's always hard to deal with fake Pokémon, mainly because they've been done so much (and so badly...) in fan material -- and furthermore very many unique designs will be hard to come up with (although you might only need to use only a handful of them for one book). Personally though, I think it would be more acceptable if you created only few of them (like a couple dozen or so -- just as much as needed to give off a feeling of locality to Sinjoh). Besides finding names, it won't be too hard to cover the existing ones somehow.
I wasn't actually referring to the copyright matters, but I must confess I hadn't thought of the potential of making it a stealth Pokémon novel -- that's a superb idea, which I think even fans would endorse. What I was talking about though is creating new Pokémon. In the event of not receiving permission (which is, sadly, the most likely), it wouldn't be a problem creating "custom" Pokémon, since you wouldn't directly refer to the existing ones either. Otherwise, you'd obviously have to limit yourself to the existing ones, but that's not a big problem.

For the record, the "custom" Pokémon I'm referring to is obviously the GS Ball Pokémon. I'm not sure if you would need any more (and even when it comes to that, since this is text material, it wouldn't be hard to somehow incorporate it without going too off the grid), although there are some acceptable choices.

I do know a few artists, but they're always busy with their own projects... :-/ I think you might want to check your luck on DeviantArt though. Many skilled concept artists that are into Pokémon can be found there, and I don't think it would be able to find someone who is possibly interested in helping out.
Of course they aren't, but I always kind of imagined the continuation to Sinjoh being set a couple years after HGSS, while Kris's adventure is probably at the GSC/HGSS era (the later part of it, obviously). But I guess the former doesn't have to be so. After all, be it (Kris's adventure) shortly before or shortly after Ethan's adventure, the Ilex Forest Shrine event could be adjusted to be set as close or afar from the Sinjoh Events as needed. So, I suppose a novel like this would cover Kris's travel in time.

I'm confident that you would expand the events to their full potential. For example, your idea of Kurt eventually creating GS Ball based on what Kris had shown him would be a grand scheme. Of course, we have disagreed on several matters as well, like whether or not the timeline should be linear. But that's still okay as long as you don't take too many liberties on matters like this. :p

Speaking of liberties... Wouldn't the Pokémon you'd be able to use be a problem? I mean, even if you aren't given the rights to publish a novel, would you use "Fakemon"? Obviously, it's reasonable that Sinjoh Pokémon ecosystem is similar to Sinnoh, Johto and Kanto ones, but what about the local myths? For example, the Pokémon sealed inside the GS Ball. Would you restrict yourself from "showing" it for this reason, or would you disregard such limitations? There are certainly gimmicks you could use (especially since this would be in text form), but have you thought about it?
After all, a novel is a medium the Pokémon franchise completely misses. Many mainly game franchises have novels. Halo for instance has several, and they are rather likeable to fans. Publishing would be a pain though. Somehow, I kinda doubt it's impossible, but I suspect it might take more effort than actually writing it.

By the way, is your idea writing the continuation to the HGSS Sinjoh events, or the "lost" Crystal story?
Between university work and the several projects I'm busy with, I'm not all that hyped for B2W2, to be honest. It's itching me to play another Pokémon adventure, since I haven't done so in quite a while (besides grinding and exploring eastern Unova -- lol, the literally only place I still haven't went to is still the Abyssal Ruins and I've no idea in heck why) but there's nothing in particular I look forward to. I guess it's gonna be interesting to visit Unova locations in a bit less of a straight line. I'm also a bit curious about Anthea and Concordia.

What format would you do that in? Obviously, I'd be interested in helping or offering input if you want. If I have time, maybe we could even make it a bit interactive (like an adventure/visual novel kinda game).

They still haven't launched any game in the ShiftyLook project, have they? Not directly related to ShiftyLook, but Namco Bandai is also looking in a Pac-Man kinda-reboot.
Agreed. It would be pointless to feature a Gym quest, especially if the game already features one. I'd say that the protagonists should have different goals. Maybe something personal, or a matter which is made deal of in the game, but isn't clearly resolved or explored. Unseen time-periods are also a very interesting potential. For example, some people want to see Team Rocket accede again, but I think that seeing their past operations would be more interesting for now.

To be honest, I don't think they would go to a different region at first, since they do use the anime for some promotion in its first-season run or so. Of course, even that could happen eventually. For one thing, the most important factor is that they have a set number of episodes. Anime in its current form simply goes as is convenient to cross-launch each of its seasons with game releases. If they had a set number of episodes for the show (like 26, if it lasted half a year, or 52 for one year), the plot wouldn't have to be so undirected. When they finished with these 26/52 episodes, they could move to a separate (but set in the same continuity) show with the same or different characters.
I wouldn't really want a close adaptation. Actually, I wouldn't want an adaptation at all, that's why I said game world-based, rather than game-based. :p

But you know, it could take place on the game's world, feature original characters, and have occasional appearances of the games' characters (I'm not sure how they would handle the starters/gender/name thing, but given the animated trailer, I doubt it would be much of a problem). Have you seen the casual/usual recent stories the anime has? They are literally take the most unimpressive and random thing they can find and make a big deal out of it, without it having any connection to the games (or at most, some very loose connection, like with the Day Care). It wouldn't really be that hard (or different) to make up such "casual" stories for a game world-based anime -- what I mean to say is they don't really take the impressive story points from the game in first place, so, it would pretty much be the same thing, except they would have a better base to put the stories on and more interesting assets to use.

In fact, I'd say they could point to even more impressive story points, even being unable to directly follow the game's plot devices, like the evil Team or the Legendaries. Viewers are now in common with what's happening. They expect the next Gym fight, know the locations and are, at most, surprised by the anime's "original rivals". A viewer of an anime based on the game's world would be more interested in what they would be watching. It could feature additional lore, explain things that weren't explained in the games, and add more to each character's history. It could even take place in another region, for what it's worth.
Well, Janine, for example. Or a kind of adaptation for the Pal Park in the anime, and the appearance of the Radio Tower. I guess anime has indeed never been faithful enough to have the luxury of incorporating these changes as something surprising, or whatever, but they exist at least. I mean, if they have to go to Kanto, I'd much rather see these things than see nothing new.

I wonder if they ever seriously considered stopping the anime. If they did, this would be an epic chance to do so. And then we will finally have a game world-based anime...
Yeah I didn't watch the ep yet but I heard what went on and that they even had a special ending to showcase scenes of the TRio from old eps to create this "ending" feeling... I'm not sure what to make of it... they could go either way from here, either make this their real end (although that would be extremely lame ending for them without any real closure) or the more likely option that they're just trolling and they'll be back after the League as you said
This does make me wonder even more what Ash will do after the League... it'd seem kind of stupid for them to go to Kanto only to once again move to Unova... but I can't see Ash travel over Kanto a third time either...
Yeah, it seems like Kanto has the most chances. To be honest, seeing Kanto is never a bad thing. Don't forget that there are things that could be seen there still. They never properly adapted Neo-Kanto in the anime, so, it might be a good chance. Seeing old friends (like Misty and Brock -- and even Ritchie!) is also something I'd personally like, even if I don't really follow the anime anymore. And Gary also goes without saying. Maybe he and Ash will have a proper battle (with the World Tournament as an excuse, perhaps), and I'd like to see an All-Stars Team by Ash (namely, Red's WT team; would like to say Espeon instead of Lapras, but how like is this?).

Heck, maybe this will even be the time anime finally shows Leaf!
