How so? Because we can guess that its base stat total is 720? Because it helped the twin heroes to establish Unova as a kingdom? The split timeline theory is not supported by B2W2 at all.
    ----------
See, that's why the Original Dragon still has gradients of mystery. "Where did it come from?", "What was it doing before it helped establish Unova?", "What are its true powers?" -- I suspect these answers aren't answered in B2W2, which may be the reason you are angry about them; but the mystery does exist. I still don't quite get why you're not interest it in these mysteries (or why you don't consider them mysteries), but to each to his own... After all, there are obviously things I still don't know, so let's return to this once I've played the games (and please don't make any spoilers :p).

    ----------
150 years later, the GS Ball ended up being sent from the future, but Celebi came through and sent it even further into the future. This was the event that alerted Suicune and the Unown of the fact that the giant would regain its powers at some point between their present and Chieko's present. Aware of this, the Unown needed to find someone to design the GS Ball. Was Kurt inspired to mimic the object that had disappeared? Perhaps he at least made documentation of the device, which Chieko used years later.

In an ironic twist of fate, though, the GS Ball itself would unlock the giant's powers. It would be captured while still in its innocent form.
    ----------
Hmm, that's one topic we haven't discussed, I think. Are you saying GS Ball was created a little after GSC's events? But if that's the case, how was it sealed in first place -- if it is the Pokémon behind the events of Brass Tower's burning, or anything that existed in the past for all that matters. I'm not too sure about this... Our theories different in quite some few points:
    ----------
It wouldn't be really exclusive to the giant as the Unown would be able to project the type onto any Pokémon. The giant having the type permanently isn't terribly important story-wise, but it could have an ability that would limit the type's accessibility in battles. I'd much rather that the giant simply not be catchable.

I wouldn't like that unless there were a connection to the Unown and/or the giant.
    ----------
Making this Pokémon be the only one with its type isn't terribly important mythologically? I disagree... I think it would needlessly differentiate it from what was before and what will come next. Setting such a standard for the Pokémon universe -- a Pokémon so special, connected to everything and everyone after it -- would absolutely serve nothing.

It's not too much like what I said before, and you said I reminded you of fans who say that "Gold and Silver shouldn't be remade so that a pattern wouldn't be set for subsequent games". You on the other hand seem to be implying that if this Pokémon isn't so special and differentiated, it wouldn't be as interesting.

    ----------
Is this another slippery slope argument?
    ----------
I'm not sure what you mean by that. I indeed believe that Chaos-type is a good idea, and I find the connection to Unown fantastic -- but I don't see why it would be so exclusive to any mythology. I think that kind of thinking is not only a bit selfish, but also unprogressive. Limiting the creators' fantasy by setting a mythology above others (one way or another) is something I'd never like to see. A little bit of inconsistency always gives the world a great taste.
I've played it though I got bored. It may have a lot of ranks, but it isn't really that fun. Perhaps the people saying they completed the game only refers to beating the Colosseum leaders for the first time? I mean, I'm sure people consider having beat Conquest when they beat the first play-through, but in reality, that main run was nothing more than a cleverly disguised tutorial.

I think the real problem with Colosseum compared to Stadium is that Colosseum offers only Pokemon battles, in a generation when we knew they purposely held the Battle Frontier from the main versions. Really, the Battle Frontier was more interesting to me. The only thing I liked about it was that it was the only console I could do online battles with since DPPt/HgSs didn't support WPA...except no one really went online with it.

I don't even think you had to beat all 8 rounds to get Pikachu. I know I didn't.
Well, I just hope that the appearance of Eevee will signal to a new Eeveelution in Generation VI, and to make it more interesting, the Eeveelution should be that of a new type, especially the Light-type.
    I see your point.

By the way, is this the link where you got the information that Eevee will appear in the anime?
Just as I thought, that word would really suit for Light-type moves.

Anyway, do you think it's fine now if it's time to hear the reaction of the fandom regarding our Light-type idea, especially now that we're now on the process of leaving Generation V now that Genesect's been revealed, by you making a blog regarding that or by making a thread in the Video Game thread?
    Nice idea of its name.

Anyway, do you think the term Luminous would fit into the names of Light-type moves and modified names for Light-type Pokemon? Although we could say that the said term is like a synonym of bright and glowing light, it still has a relation to the empathy and enlightenment attributes. What do you think?
But if Eevee would have a Light-type evolution, what do you think would be its design and its name, and how should it evolve by the way?
It started of as a DS game, so, they're certainly not representative. I think it looks all right for an eShop title... The sprite work is pretty great, actually.

I hope Game Freak will follow that model more often. From what I understand (from a Google Translated Iwata Asks) it was developed as a side-project, so, it didn't really affect Pokémon. Hopefully, their next side-game will be a Drill Dozer or a Pulseman sequel! I wouldn't mind a platform or rhythm game based on Pokémon either though.

I guess that confirms that Link! was also Turner art-directed, as I suspected. The artwork look just like Link!.
Yeah, those animals and creatures makes sense for the Light-type.

I'm just wondering if a Generation VI Pokemon will accompany Genesect on M16; and since Genesect was officially revealed as a Pokemon so early and was revealed earlier as well that it will star M16, could it be possible that we might know the "possible Generation VI" Pokemon later this year? What do you think?
Harmo Knight FIRST LOOK Trailer - Nintendo 3DS eShop - YouTube
At the Iwata Asks teaser at the end released, it appears that Iwata invited Masuda, Turner and someone else. So, even if this is Masuda-directed, I guess this is the game Turner was talking about.
Nope, I was literal! Nothing on Wii... I've no idea why they mentioned it... Actually, there was something Kirby-related at the beginning, but the stream lagged for me. Maybe it wasn't just Kirby Pinball, which I managed to see. Well, to be honest it's not over, but I think Iwata is done and now it is just videos.

Gaf has freaked out over Knights Harmony. :p
New Genius Sonority game (Denpan Ningen RPG 2) AND new Game Freak (!!!) game (Knights Harmony? or something). Looks like the James Turner directed game is still game, and it look rather good! Nothing on Wii...

I'm very satisfyied with today's Direct. I didn't expect anything major, but those actually make me very happy.
I'll continue our conversation a bit later, since I'm in a hurry right now. But check this for now.

Frankly, Wii has passed from its "swan song" games (The Last Story, Xenoblade), to the "a bit indifferent, but welcome additions" (Pandora's Tower), to the surprise big titles (Kirby's Return to Dreamland), to the really random ones (some weird Japanese-only title from Intelligent Systems), to "oh, cool, a collection" (Kirby 20th Anniversary), to the "finally released" (Dragon Quest X).

With many Nintendo franchises having moved to Wii U already, additions to other ones being too recent, and forgotten series like F-Zero and Star Fox being very unlikely to appear in the old console, I have zero confidence about any guess I could make about this. I honestly don't know what to expect. Maybe it won't be a title, but rather a system-related announcement in preparation of Wii U? Maybe you were right and there is Pokémon game coming after all?

Edit: Wait, apparently Kirby's 20th Anniversary Collection hasn't released yet. I guess it will probably be that?...
I always felt they should bear the Normal-type for being so neutral, but maybe it's not that important. After all, the Unown are known for their use of Hidden Power, so each one of them has an association to a different type anyway.

    ----------
Its skin has a rubbery elasticity, so it can reduce damage by defensively pulling it skin up to its neck.
    ----------
Scraggy and Scrafty should be resistant to electricity and weak to fire. This actually would make some sense in a probable Synthetic-type, although the name is still not good enough... And in any case, there's obviously no "stable" theme types are based on. There are some based on classical elements (like Fire), nature (like Dark), features/capabilities (like Fighting and Flying). Isn't Rock and Steel material based anyway? I take it that Steel as a name is misuse of the word "Metal" though. I don't mind the lack of "symmetry" in types anyway; I think it's simply important that every concept can be expressed through one of them or a combination.

I don't actually suggest any type should be gone, but I am a bit curious about how it would have been. For example... what if the Ghost-type merged with the Dark-type? Stupid idea, I know, but it might have turned out that way, had they though of the Dark-type from the first Generation. At least now Ghost-type isn't just for ghosts, but any "undead" theme or obscure existence (like the mummy-based Cofagrigus, Pokémon like Shuppet/Banette and even Giratina), so, it's very useful.
But I must ask you: what do you suggest that happens to the Chaos-type after this? Is it forbidden to be used ever again in something? How would you feel if a future Legendary Pokémon of an unrelated mythology was also somehow associated to the Chaos-type (be it by a similar manner to the Unown, or actually baring it temporarily/permenantly like the Giant)?

"But I don't like your line of thinking that they have to be careful not to trump Arceus or else they'd have to outdo themselves in each generation. It reminds me of people arguing that Gold and Silver shouldn't be remade so that a pattern wouldn't be set for subsequent games. Slippery slope arguments are never very cohesive."

Actually, what I'm saying is that Arceus should be comparable to other Pokémon (perhaps even be "trumped"), but preferably outside its mythology. I see the Original Dragon as a nice effort to establish that, but if a Pokémon related to Arceus is created to enjoy exclusive luxuries like a type only it can bear, that doesn't help in not sorting all mythologies in one dimension. To put it simply, it makes it seem as if the Sinnoh/Sinjoh mythology is asymmetrically more significant than other ones. So, I'm not saying "Game Freak should be careful not to outdo Arceus" at all. I'm saying that they could as well disregard it if they need -- just have as much of creative freedom as it takes to create something decent.
I do remember our discussions, of course. From what I recall, the main candidate on what is sealed inside the GS Ball was the Pokémon that burned down the Brass Tower, and is quite possibly the statue that frequently appears in the Ruins of Alph. We did explore the association of that Pokémon with the Giant, and it did seem like a possibility, but I'm not sure how I feel about that right now. In any case, if we accept that possibility, then I'm gonna have to agree that Arceus better not be too involved.

A "reincarnation" cools things down very well, but frankly, the thought that the series might touch upon over-the-top themes like cosmology and religion still makes cringe a bit. The Tribal Stage event was wonderful, but I'm still kind of puzzled by many of the liberties they took with the DPPt mythology. I don't think there should be such establishments such as "this is the Pokémon that created the universe"; the series used to be more grounded... And before you say anything, I don't think that the legends from the days of old are all a lie -- but I think the truth in those legends shouldn't be presented so firsthand, and there should be space for taking them less literally if should. If we do see a return to cosmology, I hope it will be done on a manner similar to the Tribal Stage -- mysterious, puzzling and intriguing.

I think that the Chaos-type alone as a characteristic exclusive to the Giant would make it stand out way too much. Perhaps it should be associated with the Chaos-type, but in a way similar to the Unown. For example, through a special ability. Maybe that Pokémon alters its type to the Chaos-type through an ability, rather than actually baring that type; I think its standard type should be the Normal-type. Anyway, that doesn't matter too much.
By the way, would you like Unown's type to change? If so, to what? I was thinking that (especially considering the Chaos-type idea) Normal-type would be perfect for the Unown. If not that, it would be the only suitable critter to hold the Chaos-type.

As for Light/Empathy-type, I also like that idea. If you asked me a while back, I would be hesitant, but your points do stand a lot. I'd like to see the standard types increase and the types-chart change. I wonder if there is reason to increase it to over 20. Not counting the Chaos-type, we have the Light-type, and I still like my idea for a type to represent oil-made material/plastic/rubber/etc. -- Pokémon like Scraggy. Maybe it should be called Synthetic-type, if to make it more useful (although rubber is not necessarily synthetic), although I'm not sure. Oil-type has an awkward sound in it, doesn't it?

I think the problem with many Pokémon mechanics is that they are way too iconic to pick at... I wonder what would be the fans' reaction if they got rid of types, or changed some very rememberable resistances/weaknesses. The same could be said about the lack of ATB-like mechanics in the turn-based combat, or the cap of four moves per Pokémon. It would be dangerous to change these things, but at the same time, it would give the series a much needed absolutely refreshing feel. My 16-year-old self would kick me for that, but I finally want to see major alterations to the battle system. That can include new types, a different kind of turn-based system, more variety in the use of each move and more unpredictability regarding their selection for each Pokémon.

They need to redefine what is core about the battle system -- I think the only real constants are its accessibility and variety. The new battle system should still be simple for those that want it like that, but it should be able to get deep and retain its interest.
It's probably an omission, but do note that the Stadium games weren't developed by HAL alone. There was (as usual) Creatures for the models, and Nintendo EAD also worked on the titles. The games' director appears to have been moving between HAL and EAD.

Was Chaos-type the controversial type you were talking about? We seem to agree that it shouldn't become a completely standard gameplay type, and I really like the idea of associating it with the Unown (no better Pokémon to associate it with, really). I'd like to see the Unown finally becoming useful in battle -- Turmoil is a very good idea both gameplay-wise and universe-wise. I wonder if it should be implied that it is actually caused by the combined power of multiple Unown communicating with the trainer's Unown, if to incorporate both the communicational and the mass-based nature of the Pokémon.

Chaos had been the state of the universe before Arceus was born and broke it.

I take issue with this a bit... Would this Legendary Pokémon be so much associated with Arceus? Frankly, I'm tired of Arceus's story. I think the way they handled that Pokémon was more over-the-top than it should have been. That's one of the reasons why the Original Dragon made me happy -- it proved (or rather, implied) Arceus is not the cap, power-wise or mythologically -- it cooled it down a little. A Pokémon above Arceus that is also associated with Arceus is a very bad idea. If they go there, it will seem like they can't impress without going more and more over-the-top. I don't want a Pokémon "before" the Chaos-type Legendary in Generation VIII, and I'm not sure if I want the Chaos-type to be comparable with the rest of the types by the next Generation. It should be special in that no Pokémon has direct access to it. Perhaps there could be some mythological mentions of a Pokémon once baring the type, but it shouldn't appear at all.
What animals do you think would fit for the Light-type? I can see ponies (especially unicorns) would really fit for the Light-type.

Since Chaos-type would only be on a single legendary Pokemon base on your interpretation, then that's out of the question, of course.
