And a possibly interesting quote from Sabrina, though I'm not sure of the context it's at the PWT:
"Natsume: This victory....! It's exactly like the scene I saw three years ago."
A guy in the lobby of the World Tournament will tell you pieces of info about them, such as what types they use.
"Sakaki, hmm... I've heard various rumours about him, but don't have any detailed data."
There's also the introductions used when people appear to begin the battles, his is:
"The trainer claiming that he is the strongest, Sakaki, enters!"
A Black Belt says "It looks like the legend the old woman told was about Kyurem. Even though it was a legend I guess part of it was true." There's only one lady who tells the legend, at least in B2W2. She still tells it, unchanged.
I have no idea either. It seems what we see is all there is, a girl singing, noticing you, then going 'I'm practicing, so get out!'. The text dump Records are usually arranged by area, and her speech is all that's in the one that concerns that room (429). There still could be a script event without text such as finding an item, but there doesn't seem to be anything in there when you go in normally. I asked Serebii to check it out with a Meloetta and he said nothing changed either. There seem to be quite a few purposeless rooms in B2W2, there's also a room in the Castelia Sewers which you can't get to when the water is high... but it's just a single randomly empty room.
I haven't really looked at what was happening. I know Serebii created a page, and I glanced at it, but I didn't really compare it with the past ones. I did notice that the encounters he listed were smaller ones, and he coupled encounters with the old Team Plasma along with the new one. Kind of strange that as sequels continuing on the Plasma plot (even though they could have followed up on the Tao Trio without them), that they'd get less screen time.
Also, I saw that Hilbert and Hilda didn't appear in B2W2. What a bummer. Here comes hope for them in World Tournament DLC.
Shame if the Abyssal Ruins mystery wasn't worth it or even addressed in B2W2. Another ommision, I guess. As for me, indeed, I haven't played it yet. Not sure why, but it's starting to feel not-worth the postponement after so long.
By the way, I'm curious (don't worry, I don't mind that spoiler) -- are Heatran and the Regis from B2W2 implied to be the same ones as in Sinnoh and Hoenn? Or to place it more straightly, are they "canon", or just Pokédex-filling events?
The first Ranger's plot was decent, I don't know why you're so harsh on it. I mean, it wasn't terrific, but it had some worthwhile characters and schemes, and went well with the Pokémon world. Had there not been 2 and 3, the possibility of Ranger 1 not being set in the main Pokémon universe wouldn't even cross my mind. The gameplay was simplistic but enjoyable, and the concept of bases (sadly and foolishly removed from the future releases -- that was the square one mistake they made) had very good taste. I agree that even better things can be done, but as far as how worse it can get, it can get much, much worse.
But let's not miss the point. Indeed, Mewtwo as the mascot has great potential. Where do you suggest the potential game take place (be it a console game or a spinoff)? I mean, the Unova-based county or the Kanto-based country? I'm leaning towards the former, for the simple reason that I want that geographical region to be extended considering it would be better if they didn't return there for a while. But the game could well reference old (and incoming) locations. Mewtwo sounds like the ideal Pokémon for that idea.
So much for their claim that they gave it their all for these sequels. Though, I never doubted for a second that claim wasn't bullshit....or simply referred to Pokewood.
She says that Hugh told her to speak to it a lot and cuddle its Monster Ball until it finally remembers her, and that she is doing so.
Looking through the text dump reveals another message where she happily pats it, and it cries at her, so there must be some way of it remembering her that I haven't found yet.
Their mother wonders if Hugh's younger sister will begin her adventure with the Leopardas someday.
She also dreams of Zoroark, but you know about that already.
By the way, Hugh does have a family, and more of one that player characters get -- his house has his mum and dad in it, as well as his sister. It's just not labeled with a sign like most important-character-houses.
I think I read bluesun post in the character discussion thread that the Purrloin is actually from Hugh's (dead) grandfather so there's the whole "sentimental thing"
I'm just guessing that his family is absent for the same reason a lot of families are absent...they just are, and Game Freak didn't bother to program them in since they had no role. Does his sister have a unique sprite?
I don't know, even if he saves everyone's Pokemon, its not as if he knows whose they are or what to do after that point.
Yes, as they have done for the rest of the game.
"N was a great man who understood the hearts of Pokemon. On the other hand, he never could comprehend human hearts and feelings... Nonetheless, as the King of Team Plasma, he caused trouble for Isshu. So as his atonement, he set out on a journey with a Legendary Pokemon." I don't think there was a change between the main-game and post-game lines, but can't be sure.
I'm pretty sure that Rumble was backed by the non-Game Freak part of The Pokémon Company, and the free Pokédex 3D was one of the most major arguments to sport the decent online distribution features that were to come, when the eShop launched. Taking it further, Pokédex 3D Pro and Dream Radar are a link between B2W2 and 3DS. It's not like they haven't done some work with the 3DS.
For the record, an RPG is a more major decision, because it's something that would stir up the core fanbase. PokéPark's target is a smaller and much differently-thinking audiance. PokéPark doesn't really affect the series' history or the critique it can receive based on how good or bad the game is. It counts as "another Pokémon product", not as an entry to the main Pokémon series. I don't think that's possible to happen with an RPG, however it's promoted. That goes for a battle game as well, but obviously not on the same level.
I'm not sure why we argue about this. If you also find it unlikely, what is it that we disagree on? We both think it's a good idea, and we both don't really expect it. I guess the disagreement on the most likely platform is one thing (though I don't think it would reflect on the game's quality at all), and you also don't like the idea of a non-RPG way of having a story (but wasn't PBR's story mode compared to Gym Leader's castle?). But I don't think we dissent all that much.
In any case, I don't mind speculating about a proposed project and what its story could revolve. After all, we've discussed Pokémon X a lot, although we do know it's kinda lost in time (zing!). Maybe we'll get it in one form of another, like when the sequel turned out to be on DS instead of Wii as we were discussing. The story through battle progression is a good idea to me, and also likely. Even a spin-off with a different gameplay (like Ranger) which could be canon to the main universe would be good enough for me (and Genesect's story could unfold there).
So, please don't compare me with fans that found B2W2 "a stupid idea" because they didn't want to disappoint themselves. Realistically speaking, I don't really expect a battle game, let alone a console RPG -- but not only is a spin-off possible, but I also find a console game a good idea anyway, so, I don't mind speculating about it.
So, basically, I don't change my mind; I just find it less and less likely as time goes on. Again, I don't find it impossible for now, and I don't think it's a stupid idea either, I just don't expect it. In fact, I'd like to see a console game, be it on Wii or Wii U. It's a shame for a Generation to pass without one.
Regarding the sales; B2W2 did in fact surprisingly good. Sequels don't usually sell that well, let alone sequels that are the fourth original game of their system and the fifth commercial release of a 7-year-old console whose successor has released. I don't think they actually fear of making a console RPG -- much like they make portable Zelda games, it probably won't change much --, as much as they don't see much of a reason to do that instead of another portable release. B2W2 proves that people can't get enough Pokémon, even on the same system as always. I'm not sure how you can say that more than double the budget and about a quarter (or half, if they do an extremely good job) of sales isn't a good reason, though.
Obviously, they would make profit and possibly sell some hardware, and would also be good for the series quality-wise. Maybe it is worth it; they know that better than I do. But at the time when they don't attempt it, I think I've placed some serious arguments that could potentially explain the situation. (again, without being sure myself)
Now, my question on the other hand is this: why does it matter if it is on Wii or Wii U? I can get why you want it to be an RPG (I'm not sure why you don't like the idea of a story progression through battles, though), but does the system matter that much?
PokéPark 2 wasn't a very major decision (in contrast to its good sales) and I don't think I found it that surprising back then. If anything, they had probably made an original engine for the first PokéPark, so, it made sense to take advantage of that investment, especially since we're talking about a kids-orriented game that sells quite well to its target audiance.
And of course you might say that it was a pretty similar case with Conquest and B2W2. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm saying is unlikely. B2W2 on DS was also unlikely, and the fact that it did release doesn't change much... Also, bare in mind that Game Freak has word for the main series, which may be de facto affiliated with Nintendo, but is otherwise independant (after all, Masuda did says that it was Game Freak's idea to release another DS game, and Iwata just made a suggestion for it). The Pokémon Company's 2/3 are owned by Nintendo, and I don't think they would want more games on their old systems. Conquest on the other hand is a much older project by a completely independant company.
I don't think I ever changed my mind. I may have said it could be possible at one point, but it doesn't make sense to keep the same stance when so many things have changed. For example, I found it very possible (almost undoubtedly possible) when BW release, and we even speculated how it could turn out into a BW sequel instead of just a battle game or another Colosseum/XD. After B2W2 were announced, I told you I don't find it very likely anymore, but still hoped a battle game would come (while wishfully thinking it could have some story elements). After that, Meloetta was also announced, clearly showing a rushing for the Generation. Now B2W2 have not only released, but also did brutally well -- at the same time, there is no sign of high profile Wii projects and Wii U releases this year.
There weren't really high profile projects on DS either (besides BW and B2W2) as far as I remember.
Next months as in the one being released on the fifteenth, or the one released in August? I always find these "next month" statements a bit weird since CoroCoro apparently releases their month's issues a month earlier.
