  • I think I should just duck out of these Gen VI discussions for now. The second half of summer semester is starting anyway. There's really nothing left to look forward to in terms of news for BW2, except maybe how they managed to extend the BW2 guides to be so long and new artwork. I am really hoping there's a Wii game to tie onto the Genesect release though. We haven't had a single good one in its entire lifespan thanks to PBR's flop.
I don't understand why he wants a Champion League in Best Wishes. The time to have done it was Diamond and Pearl, and they had the opportunity to do so had they not spent a whole year not giving Ash a badge. As far as I can tell, Ash's battle ability is lacking in this series compared to DP.
I'm really starting to wonder if there's something wrong with my notifications since I don't recall getting one for this VM and a few others....

I'm just interested in seeing the Original Dragon as a species, but yeah, I'm kind of not interested in the plot surrounding it anymore given how either Game Freak didn't think the stories through, or they're over-complicating it without telling us anything to make a coherent narrative.

Anyway, I came to ask whether there was a translated text dump for BW2 just like there was one for BW that you know of. I'm kind of interested in the random dialogue with Ruri and Tetsu even though I doubt they're very interesting.
Saw a post of yours that mentioned the reason for going from Japan to NYC in Gen 5 was to differentiate itself from the other DS games, posted way back in 2010. Was curious for a source, cause if true that would mean gen 6 would be a likely return to form when it comes to regions.
The way I see it, a really well done battle game with story sections between battles (and, let's say, some cutscenes) but not an RPG mode is what we should realistically be hoping for at this point as far as the console games are concerned. With that said, I'd gladly discuss the possibility of a Genesect storyline painted this way. It might seem underwhelming compared to a full fletched, but I actually think that, much like sequels, it could turn out to become a good habbit.

In any case, I'd mostly expect a 3DS spinoff for Genesect. Indeed, it does seem a bit too... simplistic to just distribute it over Wi-Fi and get done with it, especially during the same year when they distributed Keldeo and Meloetta. A Ranger-like spinoff would be good, especially if penned by Matsumiya.
Now you might ask... Do I expect it on Wii U instead? The answer is probably no, but if it was between Wii and Wii U, I do think Wii U has more chances. I don't know what is to blame... Sure, they could find another developer if Genius Sonority isn't ready for this. And well, Generation VI might be close, but they could similarily delay a 3D game for that as well. And sure, Pokédex 3D Pro and Dream Radar are entirely different projects, despite the fact that one could say they serve at least a small part of the purpose of a 3D game. Each of these reasons is small, but the combination of them makes it not seem too worthwhile in comparison to, say, a Generation VI Wii U game. Plus, I think that with B2W2 people are more than pleased with the exposure of Generation V (which, ironically, I feared would not grow into people on such "short" time).

And for a battle game, I wouldn't bet big on not seeing it as a surprise. But an RPG? It occurs to me that they might want to keep the franchise entirely portable given how it performs. Objectively speaking, a console RPG would have a ton of things to offer to the series, but business wise, it wouldn't make a lot of sense. Why raise the budget to the double (or more) for a game that would probably barely sell a quarter of its portable counterpart? At the same time, that could distract part of the series' fanbase from the portable iterations. Not to mention the hardware-selling factor.
I guess they do have a bit more than a year's worth of episodes, and with Ash owning 8 badges it's hard to think how much they could stretch the pre-League events (again, the writers who had Ash not gain a single badge for over a year in the Sinnoh saga). Somehow, I wouldn't count on them doing something too worthwhile, though. Considering there are quite some Unova cities to be visited, I think the Sinnoh model would be less surprising. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, of course. Old characters are one of the few things that would really get my attention to the anime, to be honest. It would be great to see Misty, Brock and Garry. Who knows? Maybe even Leaf could appear some day.

After all the... misscalculations of last year, you're still willing to bet on a Wii title, let alone one with a plot? First of all, a Wii game is pretty much as unlikely as another original DS game after BW. And the fact that that did happen doesn't make it less of an unlikely decision. :p To be honest, I would say it is even more unlikely, because unlike DS, Wii hasn't been hot for a couple years now. DS never really had a low spot until 3DS came out; in fact, it still performed after that (software-wise) in occasions. There have been some ancient Wii projects that finally come out now, like Dragon Quest X (which is very underwhelming, by the way), but I don't find even a battle game probable on Wii anymore. And an RPG? No shot. :p
I don't know, it may happen, but it's just more like them to stick Ash in one place and make him go from town to town...
The best could be if BW2 offered an additional region without Gyms that Ash could go to and do all tournaments there, as I think you suggested before... but sadly they didn't do that... and I find it hard to believe they'll let Ash go from region to region like that... they prefer their Gym-like journey of being in one region and going from town to town... and if it's one region, then I can't see him going to a random one that wouldn't advertise current games, so he'd probably just stay in Unova, lame or not... well, either that or some Orange Islands like place... they do like to reference gen 1 in Best Wishes... maybe they'll make up an area like that and do the World Tournament there?
You know, that's actually a pretty sensible way to handle the rest of the tournament and fill in the gap without another filler region. People have always been talking about wanting a long tournament arc, so here it is.
    part 2-

As I said in that thread, I think it'd be nice if in case they'll do it, they'll focus on Ash's past friends/rivals... like Misty, Brock, May, Gary, Paul, Barry, Conway, Nando, maybe even the Coordinator girls' rivals... and it could be nice to see Tobias return and maybe battle Ash with less of a trolling team (like, no legendaries, or just one... that one being Latios to give Ash a chance to properly beat it, which would also mirror the games' player battling a Latios against Alder's grandson... though if HE appears, then maybe they'd just do that with him)
I guess we will have to wait and see, cause now the whole World Tournament thing in the anime is very confusing... to be honest though, I think I'm more looking forward to gen 6 than whatever they'd do to fill time waiting for it, cause I hope they'd actually use the girl heroine this time, make her a more entertaining character than what Iris is and hopefully make her a star like Dawn (wether it's with Contests or whatever new idea they can come up with)
I'm enjoying more the recent eps, mostly because of Dawn and old Poké's return (though I also think BW did improve a little recently, and it's nice that Iris seems to warm up to Ash, too bad it was random and they didn't really do anything with it, but it seems that's how everything happens with Iris' character) but I'm still not happy with how this series as a whole turned out... I'm sure I'll enjoy Ash's gen 6 friends more than I enjoyed Iris and Cilan, and hopefully by then TRio will disappear and stop eating precious screentime
    2000 characters limit... part 1-
Well, at first I thought we're just getting few eps of that Junior Cup and that's it, but looking at what Black2/White2 has to offer to the writers to adapt for whatever Ash will do after the League... there's barely anything that stands out other than the World Tournament
So I think I agree now that they'll probably do something with that for these 9 months before gen 6 starts
I'm not sure about Ash actually visiting all these regions... it could be nice, but it just seems weird to me to imagine Ash "jump" from region to region like that... they also like to make everything seems like a Gym quest even when it isn't, so I can totally see some tournaments being held around Unova with Ash going from one to another
Well, they should pick up the game again just so they can see how real inter-game connectivity works out. It's actually quite amazing what they achieved given that they used passwords, and its even better how, connecting two games actually created an expanded story that seemed isolated.
I read the Abyssal Ruins thread, it is really confusing. I'm guessing that there is either more than one King (Twin Heroes) or more likely the King united Unova before the twin heroes did and restored the Original Dragon, but for some reason or another the peace did not last long after his death. Maybe at this point the heroes sought out the Original Dragon after hearing the legends of the King and united Unova again, but they dropped the ball big time if so because their bickering caused the Dragon to split again.

I am also confused since the twin heroes story is suppose to establish Unova, but I'm guessing that the region was not known as such during the King's time. If they do release the Original Dragon in an unrelated region, just what kind of treatment would it get? Would it get the Regigigas treatment that everyone was afraid of?

At this point, it just makes me sad that all of this wasn't dealt with in this generation. The whole theme of Unova was the "one peoples, one culture" message they were trying to convey, and it just feel complete without the Original Dragon and the reunification of its trio. I was looking to this gen to be my favorite, but perhaps that was an exaggeration on my part. As for the Unkown, that is indeed interesting, I hope that is delved into more in any future region.
As long as someone is keeping a leash on his stupidity....though I'd like to remain hopeful that success of B/W will let him, and the rest of Game Freak realize they don't need to be so formulaic next generation. I really thought that, at least Memory Link, was a step in the right direction in terms of getting Game Freak to the point of making a game with connectivity like the Zelda Oracle series. It's a bit ironic that Zelda's first and only dual release still can't be matched by Game Freak in terms of version-connectivity. Granted, it was two separate plots, but the way it was worked out was marvelous. I really think someone on the development team needs to pick up the Oracle series right now so they know how to handle this.
    Pokémon Black 2 & Pokémon White 2 - Version Exclusives - Areas

I'm still trying to fathom what in these Link features required Game Freak to need two versions to begin with even before sequels. Join Avenue and Fes Mission doesn't require communication with the opposite version. What's got to be the most ridiculous example on this list is version-exclusive difficulty levels. Surely, someone at Game Freak had to speak up and say "couldn't we just give both options in one game?" All these version differences are incredibly forced and didn't require two versions even if they wanted to maintain communication. Game Freak was going around how an older player can help a less experienced one with Assist mode--that's not happening if they start with Black version.

Of course, I guess its not all that bad, we still got sequels which allowed for the story to expand beyond the scope of what is possible with third versions.
