  • Despite the fact that I think geography used doesn't go much beyond being geography, it would obviously be good if they used the whole France. I don't think they would make a second region based on French land, so, they better off covering the whole while they're at it. Now, does a possible location based on Pyrenees indicate that? It doesn't, since even Unova had more than just New York (let alone Manhattan), and that can be said about the Japanese regions too, probably. Now, would that be problematic? I guess it would, for the people that care (and didn't mind Manhattan being a separate region in spite of being 1/1000th of Hokkaido in first place). As I personally am for open-ended usage of real-world material, I wouldn't mind using the territory as a "region" rather than a country.

I agree that Chugoku / Shikoku would be the ideal location for the "second story" of the generation. I'm only a little undecided on whether that should mean waiting for the second pair of games for Generation III evolutions. It wouldn't change much, but I want XY's ecosystem to be very well-balanced (the opposite of BW's one). Now, there's always Hoenn; I guess they should please the pro-remake fans somehow. I hope they'd be satisfied with seeing the later years of Hoenn -- throw in Emerald on eShop as well, and all is good.
If Pokémon Company was more forward-looking and modern, and treated the media franchise more neatly, they'd have Kusaka and Yamamoto drop Special (or, well, put aside a little) and run a manga tying in with X and Y instead of being based on them. If OLM can make a game-based animation short, Kusaka and Yamamoto should do their part on the manga department. Plus, there is Wii U, 3DS and tons of others platforms for digital media distribution.

Εspecially in the former two cases, it would be a good chance for Nintendo to utilize exclusive or privileged media distribution in their platforms (and hence promote them) while also promoting the games. They had three animation studios do 6 animated shorts for Kid Icarus: Uprising. I think 6 manga chapters would cost much less than that. Modernize yourself, TPC.
You know, it's not that bad. I mean, PokeSpe was never an accurate view on the Pokémon games' story, but it's not too bad as an alternative one. I'm not a fan of the Sinjoh Ruins treatment either -- it doesn't stand too much as a theory, considering that Cynthia appears there, and it also is technically "pointed at" at the PokéGear map -- that said, the decision with Kris / Lyra was just as annoying... We can't do much about it. I must say that I like the idea of a "bad" Arceus though. I find it more curious that it wanted to destroy the world in first place, but I think it's an interesting twist.

I'm trying to keep an open mind for other things, such as the DPPt Creation Trio in the Mystri Stage, as well. Between the "bad" Arceus and the "parallel world" Sinjoh Ruins, getting rid of the birth of Dialga / Palkia / Giratina in Mystri Stage isn't that surprising. Clearly, everything related to the Sinjoh Ruins event HGSS introductions has changed. I don't really mind Team Rocket though. I find Giovanni's character sort of interesting, something I can't say for his counterpart's appearance in HGSS. I'm not one of the people that support a full-pledged return of TR, but I also don't believe it would be terrible to see that happen in some form. For one thing (and not necessarily related to a "return" of TR), I'd like to see Jessie and James again at some point.

By the way, I have to give Kusaka credit for what appears to be, caring for continuity. I always liked the nods he made to older character or older characters' Pokémon and while, sure, Special has ended up being a mess up in a lot of way, that's largely due to the release schedule of the games, trying to fit between "originality" and "basing upon" and being cut publishing opportunities (due to magazines shutting down). I'd say that the wasted potential and the rough handling of some aspects has more to do with logistics than Kusaka's capabilities.
Hardware-wise, it is. This is why I have 3DSi in quotes, I don't think it will be called that. My guess is that it will be introduced as a half-successor, in that it will not only be compatible with 3DS software, but also be a hardware update (with potentially limited exclusive titles). It's the biyearly updates I was suggesting earlier that I think this will kick off. This is just a guess of course, and I could be completely wrong.

And...... HGSS happened a few years ago before DP...... WHAT!?

LOL! Well, that's a shocker it is. Are they trying to patch their mess-ups with this? I mean, technically this isn't a bad idea, considering Special's timeline is so weird. But if they wanted to do that, they should have thought it up earlier. Mystri Stage happened before Mt. Coronet?
Something like this. Of course, I don't think Nintendo is going to introduce a line for them per se. But they surely are to follow the notion (in a way that promotes gameplay tweaks as well as visual updates). I case you didn't hear, an HD version of The Wind Waker was announced in the last Direct. I'm not completely sure, but I think a Sunshine HD remaster is very possible as well, later. And that goes for several Wii games as well, such as the Mario Galaxy games and the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Nintendo did do something similar to the HD Remasters for GameCube games, through the New Play Control! series, but considering the Wii couldn't output HD resolutions, well, you get the message.

It is indeed early for a Wii Virtual Console, but if you think of them as "Digital Wii releases", it's not completely irrational. Between the many games (especially third-party ones) that get harder to find, and their turn to digital distribution, it only makes sense. If there's anything keeping them from doing it already, it only has to do with marketing-related causes. Basically, I think they're saving this for a time when there aren't too many high-profile Wii U announcements or releases, which is why I think it will take a while. Same goes for digital DS games on 3DS, though I think that's going to be introduced sooner rather than later, when "3DSi" gets announced.

Of course, I could be completely wrong about them coinciding digital GameCube and Wii games. The Wind Waker, Prime Trilogy and Sunshine are the top tiers for GameCube remasters. Most of the other games are either third-party, already released through NPC!, or just more fit for VC releases. Might as well do the GameCube VC sooner.
It makes no logical sense to include GBA VC on the Wii U of all things. The GBA was a handheld, and the people who want to play them again would probably want to play the games again on a Handheld. The Wii U should just have VC for its console predecessors like Gamecube and N64, while 3DS has VC for its handheld predecessors like the GBA.
Now, for GameCube games... I'd got as far as saying they won't be there for quite a while. They may want to be (mostly) done with HD Rereleases first. It will be weird for a GameCube Virtual Console to exist and not having Super Mario Sunshine despite people's calls for it. Now, are there many games that could get the HD treatment? Probably not. Wii's counterpart to "HD Rereleases", New Play Control!, is way too recent (and superior to the GameCube releases), so, I doubt most games would get an HD release as well (maybe just Prime). Same for other series-based games, like Smash Bros., Mario Kart or F-Zero; they beg for VC treatment -- it's their sequels should do the "HD treatment" justice.

For these reasons, I'm inclined to believe GameCube Virtual Console isn't coming until the Wii VC comes; and that is, when they're mostly done with HD rereleases. Since games like Pikmin were released with Motion Controls, I'm not entirely sure if they'd want to offer the original versions instead (or at least, not without letting customers know they have both options).

I wonder if Colosseum and XD would get an HD rerelease. If they don't, they are a no-brainer for VC; but I think an HD Collection shouldn't be counted out just yet. It wouldn't take too much budget, and would be a good opportunity for Genius Sonority to get back in the game. (And they could tweak the games a lot too; they arguably need that more than the Wind Waker).
I think the Virtual Consoles will eventually be unified (that is, when accounts are unified). In fact, were Balloon Fight and Yoshi not in the list, I'd say they chose the games carefully, so that they don't coincide with the ones in the 3DS Virtual Console (even when it comes to providing the Mr. Dream instead of the Mike Tyson version of Punch-Out!!). The fact that those two are coming though... It worries me a bit. I hope they don't expect people to buy a Virtual Console game for the third time. Hopefully, they're just calling out people's common sense; it may be understandable to buy Super Mario Bros. or Zelda twice (which why they aren't on the list), but who'd get Balloon Fight and (ironically, GameFreak's) Yoshi twice?

Which brings us to the point: GBA games will be released on 3DS eventually. I think they may be saving this as a "key feature" to the unification process (and also giving 3DS Ambassadors a little more time of exclusivity).
Oh, yes. Pokémon-Mini.net is a seriously well-made project. You wouldn't think mini would be so well documented (and Homebrew is sweet too).
I'm still looking for Tetris every now and then... It's the only game released in Europe I wasn't able to find as a kid. As for the Japanese exclusives, they are ridiculously expensive these days.
Strange Virtual Boy or Game & Watch aren't there too. The latter has been made available on DSiWare but still, it doesn't seem like they're just trying to "include 'em all". I hope this isn't a coincidence, as Pokémon mini was crazy good. Though I feel it would be a better fit for 3DS or smartphones rather than Wii U.
Did you happen to see the Wii U direct yesterday? I'm annoyed about the fact that the Wii U is getting GBA Virtual Console. It would make MUCH more sense for the 3DS to get it. The 3DS may get it later down the line, but I don't see the logic in putting it on Wii U. Instead of having GBA VC on the Wii U, they could have had Gamecube VC instead and left the GBA VC to the 3DS.

I've been really against the Wii U and 3DS in terms of software available to them but 2013 looks like a pretty good year for the Wii U and 3DS with some of the upcoming games, much better than 2012. I'm really curious as to how Pokemon X and Y will sell. Do you think they will sell better than the previous console move to the DS with D/P? It's the first 3D Pokemon, on the 3DS.. I'm expecting it to sell better.
Whoops! Looks like I forgot to edit that part of the Timeline page. I guess I should go in and fix it now that we know a little bit more about Handsome's role in Episode N.

Now that Satoshi and his friends are kind of wandering around the Isshu region, it wouldn't take much to get them back to the Resort Desert. I mean, they're already having him go from Kanako Town to Hiougi City to the White Ruins, so why not pull a Kanto and have the gang randomly go through the desert on the way?

And the Rocket trio teaming up with Handsome could very well not happen until *after* the retconned two-parter takes place.
