I'm in the camp that thinks the roster was actually really good as it is. The idea of the tournament consisting of the regional Champions is great and makes perfect sense for Ash's grand finale tournament. It's only the execution that was a massive letdown.
The only spot I would swap out is...
In a meta sense, Tobias is still probably the worst loss, just because it's so obvious Ash deserved to win the Sinnoh League and there's basically no reason for him to exist other than to stop that from happening. DP was easily the best series for Ash to retire and it would've saved us all...
I haven't been active on this forum in years, but I had to come back to celebrate this. I remember saying to myself after the disastrous Kalos League finale: "Well, that's it. He's never winning. The status quo has risen beyond god status."
And three years later, I'm so happy I finally can eat...
One thing I do hope is that SM doesn't overdo it with advertising Z-moves. I get that they're Gen 7's signature shtick and all, but I really didn't like the massive overglorification they gave to Megas in late XY which ended up often replacing actual strategy. I hope we'll get to see more...
I find it utterly baffling that you actually follow the mindset that winning = everything. I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you to understand, but there's more to "strength" than league results. If you think otherwise then you're unbelievably petty. I mean, it's almost like these...
You're missing the point. It's obvious Alain is more powerful of a trainer than Ash. He's the single most powerful trainer in the entire anime barring Tobias, and he's dangerously close to rivaling Tobias at that. That's precisely the problem.
Alain is supposed to be, for lack of a better term...
You're not alone, I definitely wish they could have at least tied. Looking back on it, I don't think it was nearly as important for Ash to win the league so much as just taking down that stupid broken Charizard. I actually prefer Ash's match against Tobias to this because even if Ash couldn't...
Honestly I feel like Ash (and I guess Jessie and James, though they haven't actually been shown in any scenes yet afaik) are really the only designs that come off as jarring. The designs for all the in-game characters like Lillie and Mallow look totally fine. And even in Ash's case, it's nothing...
There's no way Ash would ever become a type specialist. It's basically impossible in the first place what with the whole obligatory starter and early-game bird capture, and on top of that it just generally puts a severe limit on possible captures (people already complain about Ash stacking too...
Yeah, because I can't think of any other kid's shows that would stoop to the heinous, disgusting crime of having romantic feelings among young characters, right?
Oh wait. Yes, yes I can...
How can you possibly be offended that a character took a tiny bit of romantic action at the absolute last...
