Along with Deadpool and Zootopia, it's been one of the best movies I seen.
    So many shocking surprises.
I forgot to mention another great sci-fi flick: Independence Day. Also one of the most cheesy films of all time. But it knows it's dumb and is pretty much one of the best alien invasion films of all time still in my opinion.
Predator spawned two crappy sequels that aren't worth your time and it crossed over with the Alien series to become Alien vs. Predator but the two AvP films are frankly a disgrace. The Alien film series is amazing. The first one is also one of the best horror films of all time, while the second one is pretty much the best "army guys vs alien" film you'll ever see and is possibly even better than the first one.
I feel as if The Hobbit films are more child-friendly while the LotR films are very, very dark in story and tone. But then again, The Hobbit was basically a children's book from what I understand. Sadly Tolkien's family doesn't like the films at all and doesn't want any more of them, so I don't think we'll ever see a film based on The Silmarillion or a Middle-Earth film in general :(
Yeah Mad Max has more dystopian elements, although it may be considered partially science-fiction. Predator is another great sci-fi flick I forgot, although it isn't science-fiction in the traditional sense either, as it is about an extremely dangerous alien hunting a group of mercenaries in a jungle.
Well I can never really take fantasy serious for some reason, it always comes off so fairy tale-like and maybe I'm just not a big fan of fairy tales. But LotR is nothing like that, it's realistic, dark and epic. The Lord of the Rings films are easily some of the best films ever made. The Hobbit films are great too although I do think the LotR films are far superior.
